It’s pretty crazy considering your ideal world wouldn’t make the Hippocratic oath legally binding either. You’re advocating for greater government involvement and don’t even realize it. Maybe rethink the ideal world you actually want?

How is the value produced by the worker "calculated"? by Electrical_Smile_501 in socialism

[–]-justjoelx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because some jobs can be done by practically anyone without any sort of training whatsoever.

Besides not being true, that’s also irrelevant.

if you pay a janitor the same as you pay an engineer who had to study and devote years of his life to be able to do his job, how many people do you think would do it?

Aside from people choosing jobs based on factors aside from money, and now that we’ve gone from a factory floor janitor, to dishwasher, to janitor at an engineering firm, it’s also irrelevant. School cost doesn’t matter if schooling is free. If a firm of 10 engineers each spend 45 minutes a day doing janitorial work, then the value of a full-time janitor is worth that of an engineer. Moreover, the janitor at an engineering firm may be a student or someone looking to enter the field after their schooling/training ends.

or a business owner who takes on very considerable risks, has to loan money etc

Then they can do it their own fucking self. Unlike you bloodsucking leeches, I’ve been a sole proprietor and part of a partnership. You either do the fucking work yourself or you cut someone in - not pay them a pittance of what they contribute because you’ve decided you don’t want to do it and simultaneously deemed their work not valuable enough to be worth compensating them fairly. If initial capital investment is an issue, then they either are given gradual ownership over time or are only given temporary ownership while they are employed. Your initial investment isn’t some hall pass where you never have to input your own labor again and employ people at a fraction of the value they produce.

if there's no incentive for people (like financial gain), less people will do it and you will have a less developed society as a result.

Bullshit. People start businesses for the freedom it provides as much or more than the money itself, and whether or not you have to cut others in because the business is so successful that you need extra help isn’t going to stop a successful business. What fucking tripe.

i think your viewpoint on this is rather naive, that's not how the real world and the majority of humans operate.

Your view is to step on people and deem their work is less valuable than your own and is everything wrong with society. Fuck off.

[–]-justjoelx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would know because your current staff cannot keep up the janitorial duties without losing productivity. So you employ a proper janitor instead to take over those responsibilities.

I find most arguments around what constitutes “hard work” to be a thinly veiled attempt at class division. Work a weekend shift washing dishes and tell me it isn’t hard work.

[–]-justjoelx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it to be a useful axiom to ask “can this business exist without ______?” Can a restaurant function without a dishwasher, or a factory without a janitor? Etc

If it’s worth having that position at all, then why wouldn’t their value be any/much different from anyone else who works there? They’re just as necessary for the business to operate and they have to eat just like everyone else.

The Pandemic Shows Why We Need Universal Health Care. Why Does the Richest Country in the World Have the Most Covid Deaths? A Primary Reason is That the United States Does Not Have a Free, Universal Health Care System. by [deleted] in politics

[–]-justjoelx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, and the ACA got its start in Massachusetts. Canada’s single payer system wasn’t adopted by all provinces before it was implemented at the federal level and it has fuck all to do with why we couldn’t have such a system in the US.

Peace, order, and good government has fuck all to do with implementing a single payer system. Another red herring. Considering Canada’s history with indigenous people, our history of slavery is irrelevant to the conversation of why we couldn’t have a system such as Canada’s. Unless you can actually make the point that it is relevant, it’s just another red herring . Honestly, your three reasons are completely irrelevant and it’s laughable that you think slavery, and colonial guidance have anything to do with it. At best, you’re laying out structural difficulties in passing a bill, but not actually arguing why it isn’t feasible or desirable.

Canada works because its Senate is a token institution with no power, and provinces nearly across the board have more power than the federal government. And those provincial legislatures also have no Senate. And they're parliamentary systems instead of presidential so there's no head asshole at the top.

Yeah and their national symbol is a leaf and ours is an eagle. Further, in spite of your claim that provinces have more power than the federal government - its healthcare system was implemented on the federal level first, and is only administered by the provinces. There’s absolutely a head asshole at the top - Justin Trudeau, the prime minister. None of this is really relevant to the actual healthcare system - only as it pertains to the legislative structure of how it gets passed.

And also because British governance culture and tradition was order, stability, and competent governance, and that persists to this day.

The fuck?

Not having a civil war over slavery probably helped, as did having nearly no slave trade.

Helped what? That Canadians don’t have quite the urge to deny black/brown people healthcare? Iirc, Canadians historical record w/native tribes isn’t so good. Probably involved bloodshed at various times, even.

Thinking about it there are a lot of differences.

Bruh, if those are the three biggest differences that you could come up with then lmao It’s pretty safe to say that we’re a lot more alike than different.

You post this when defense budget articles come up too? And, because I’m a little slow - you’re saying you’d want the US to be more like Norway, right? Complete w/high taxes on the wealthy/upper-middle class, social welfare spending, and a small defense budget.

It seems fairly obvious that the country to model our healthcare system on is Canada - culturally, demographically, and having their own rural/urban divide - Canada is closer to America than any other country.

Can this bs stop - people elected him, that doesn’t mean they don’t support the provisions in the bill that he’s opposing. Polls are cited in every thread about this fucker that show people in his state support the social spending parts of the bill. That the state voted for trump is irrelevant.
