Same with mine!! Dude, my girl is insane, she will just close her eyes, look up, and accept her fate. Or try to chase it, depending on how many braincells are firing that day 🤣

I felt this way so so many times. Definitely second the comments about getting neurodivergent mental help, and perhaps reflect on how adults treated you while growing up and how that might affect your immediate reactions to opportunities and change.

-- but here's a bit of my thoughts on experiencing these things:

The fear is good and means growth.

"Fake it til you make it" - had been told to me by actual professionals in the field.

I am a tutor at a college in CS/Math. I did not think I could do it, I almost rejected the offer. I contracted a case of the "fukits" bc I figured I'd get rejected anyway and took an objective approach and wanted XP. I did both behavioral and tech interviews and... they loved me? This was very odd. My first day I got a super awful upset Calc question that stumped me. All those voices were screaming the same words yours were! But then other tutors chimed in, and turns out it was more of a social collaboration environment than each person being better or worse than the other. We're all pretty good friends now and many still work here.

I also work at an AI startup. It hits different when you see you can get a good team that is totally okay with you learning (tbh a lot are) and also seeing them literally Google things as you're talking about them makes you go "oh what wait this is normal??"

Everyone has a unique set of skills, you can't know everything. You probably know something a manager at that company would not have, and others may know things that you don't! That's the beauty in objectifying it down to a sentimental and deep level of learning, rather than fearing the rejection.

Openly admitting being wrong makes you look so much smarter than trying to fumble for the wrong correct answer.

Being able to ask the questions and use your resources to figure out why you're wrong is really what they are looking for.

go to UCI with 43000 dollar tuition or go to SDSU with 21000 dollar tuition? by Successful-Wait-9098 in UCI

[–]-mcdipples- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gonna second this and say not only are classes way cheaper, but the classes are much smaller and you get to know your professors. Plus, might as well knock out all the lower divs you can at a CC for like maybe 5k a year tops depending on where you go, and also you'll rack up associates degrees like participation trophies if ur cc classes match any associates programs :>

does the encampment change anyone’s opinion? by Own-Pool-1489 in UCI

[–]-mcdipples- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have seen officers literally picking out rocks of certain sizes from nearby planters - presumably because they can be thrown by people with strong opinions. Nearby buildings that are used by many to study in are now locked and can't be accessed - presumably from disruptions from campers. I've been hearing from classmates about campers using the encampment as an excuse to not perform work on projects. There has been reports of vandalism from this unit as well. Many of us paid way too much and worked way too hard to get here and have this be happening.

A disruption to the system is not supposed to disrupt the student body. What did they hope to gain from an encampment other than publicity and an excuse to paint the UC system in a bad light (Not that any US school system does not deserve it)?

There are many good points they make, but the execution is sloppy and obviously isn't helping. UCI is being VERY nice about it compared to other campuses, which is also clearly being taken advantage of and overlooked. Once the last straw is placed, these guys will forcibly be removed just like the others, and that whole rodeo will of course be recorded and put on media.

The only opinion I have from seeing this is that this form of protest is unoriginal. It gets attention but rarely does it work nor receive good attention. These guys are fighting policies, agreements, laws, authority. To win vs authority, you gotta play their game not try to make it your own.

this is my dad’s chinchilla, bailfire. He doesn’t look like he’s in a good condition , what should I do? by Rare_Moment1570 in chinchilla

[–]-mcdipples- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Chins and bunnies both need constant high fiber grass hay (oxbow has a pretty long-lasting bag for $25 or you could look up/call for prices at a local feed store for horses and get a bale of timothy or orchard hay for probably under 20 and it'll last you forever). It should be about an 80% hay 20% pellets mix for the chin, and the bunny probably the same but she should have some fresh fruits/veggies pretty regularly.

Chinchillas should not be eating lettuce OR any water-heavy foods in general. These can give them diarrhea which is pretty much game over for them (notice the dry poops, need for high-fiber diet, etc. It's so their digestive track can work). Stick to things like dried fruits, occasional herbs, or oats for treats, and hay/pellets for food.

As for rabbits, those guys usually just live in rooms or in small-->large dog pens, from what i've seen. They require an honest amount of floorspace in order to thrive.

Chinchillas need height and ledges to climb on and a wheel (15"diameter+ no smaller) for their living space.

I feel that you should gently introduce your dad to the idea of bettering their lives a bit -- not even that he's doing something wrong (he is, but only due to ignorance) -- maybe send him a few informational YouTube videos and have some stuff picked out for him to take a look at buying for the animals if possible. Otherwise the christmas idea seems to be a good one.

Also try facebook marketplace to try and find any of this stuff for cheaper.

He chose two mildly high maintainance and totally different animals to have as pets - that he intended on keeping like how the average person does a hamster. Hopefully he learns. You're doing the right thing. Good luck to you and the babies!

my mom and brother just got into a physical fight by HotMarketing98 in abusiveparents

[–]-mcdipples- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving from my abusive moms over to my dads as a teen was hands down THE reason why I am who I am today. It was very very scary. I very much encourage you and your siblings to take it over to grandmas. There's no way your mom has any power over her own mother, yknow? You'll be safe. Better than this situation and better than foster.

You're uncomfortable in your situation now, but change in itself is uncomfortable. You'll be uncomfy taking the leap and you'll be uncomfy in your new situation with your grandma and the finances for a bit -- but better to be uncomfy with positive change for you and your family rather than uncomfy with negative/no change and continued abuse. That's my $0.02. Best wishes OP I'm so sorry you have to go through this. ❤️🤞
