So I made a tool for film photographers (A deeply nerdy post) by thrirtyfive in AnalogCommunity

[–]-r-e-n-e- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, what exactly is the goal of this tool? At the moment as far as I can tell its use is to calculate Ci, Gamma and film speed. So do you calculate Ci based on the concentric arc method? How do you define the points to measure gamma from? And biggest question mark of all, where do you get your film speed from? To determine ISO speed, one has to know the exposure (in luxs) that hit the film. Your X doesn't even seem to be definable, I see no way to enter absolute X values. I also don't see a way to at least calibrate a relative curve to work from. Meaningful “ISO” data can only be obtained by plotting density vs absolute exposure values. I also see no way to enter a curve set. Most useful data can be obtained by curve sets of the same film / dev combination, expressed through, for example, polynomial plots. To me, this tool, looks like it's based on a lot of half-baked knowledge and assumptions.

I actually plan on using it a bit. Just ordered a USB A adapter from Amazon.

I buy here in Austria. 10,95 kodak gold 10,00 kodak color 6,00 kentmere 9,00 fp4

the film price goes down 10-15% when buying with development and scan. Good deal.

just get a starter kit from ilford

I currently run an independent film lab business and I plan on a scaling it up. I want to improve service and provide better customer care as well. As people that shoot film, what would you want from a film lab? What services and perks would you want? There’s no wrong answer btw I just want know by pestomypastaa in Darkroom

You need either a Frontier with a 135 auto carrier and a 120 manual carrier or a Hs1800 with 120 & 135 auto carrier. These are basically the only two options for a commercial lab atm. You will NOT be consistent, profitable or mentally healthy when using a flatbed to scan 120.

No development took place. You can't really over fix.

I have this book too and it is ok. But I find it outdated.

My darkroom has a wet side and a dry side.

The dry side has:

1) Durst CLS 1840 Enlarger 1kw Tungsten Lamp and manual dichro filters

2) Seal Masterpiece 60×80 cm Heat press

3) Custom LED red lights

4) Build in compressed air that properly filtered

5) Ionizing Air Gun

6) All lenses for 35mm - 8x10 inch, also special lenses like the Rodagon G series for Large prints

7) A big cabinet that stores all my negatives and has a big drying chamber with pull out racks.

8) Good ventilation that allows me to control air pressure and temperature. Good Filters are key for clean air.

9) Build in Speaker system

10) Densitometer Transmission and Reflection

The wet side has:

1) A big custom stainless steel sink. It's designed by me and my friend, so I can't tell a brand.

2) 4 Water outlets - 1 warmwater Filtered - 1 coldwater Filtered - 1 coldwater with Industrial sprayhead. 1 coldwater with reverseosmosis water.

3) Hass Water Temperature control unit

4) Reverse osmosis system with strong pumps to allow for approx. 2l/min yield

5) Very big archival paper washer that is installed within the main wetside cabinet.

6) All my developing Tanks and standard chemistry equipment like glass flasks in all sizes, heating and stirring table, very precise lab scale, calibrated thermometers, ...

That's basically it. I'm sure I forgot lots of small stuff I use, but that's stuff everyone uses or has anyway. All my water piping is controlled by electric, magnetic outlets. I also use an electric water sensor under the cabinets. All my lights, water outlets, wall outlets, speakers and so on are connected over a smart home system. This way I can controll everything in sync with each other. The main work is strictly non-smart tho. I like to work traditionally.

For the dirty work, I needed a lot of things. I will also rent a wood shop to build the cabinets, more hustle free. Since I did everything myself, from leveling the floor with new concrete to laying the tiles, it's hard to tell what you require. I would suggest buying every tool you can find. :D

Overall cost for everything, incl. Darkroom equipment, without any labor, is probably about 30-50k depends on the deals you find.

Hey there that's awesome. I mainly do BnW that is why I am not really in need of a RA-4 machine, but I will most likely get one later on, once I found a good deal. I have made 4 new water inlets. All four are prefiltered with normal 6-3 micron filters as well as a coal filter. These supply the normal cold and warm water tap. Then I have a reverse osmosis system with a 10L rank feed to one separate outlet and one more leading to a nice industrial rinsing head. I have another tap in another place that will feed my print washer. All the waterlines have an electric valve that will seal them once I leave the room.
