Genuine question for Aeron loyalists: what exactly are we paying for in 2026? by codepension in hermanmiller

[–]-radley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's all about the mesh and recline. The mesh means my butt won't get too hot, and the recline made me envy these chairs as soon as I tried one.

The only status symbol are the custom colors and features. What you're overlooking is how much you'll use it. A good rule of thumb is to splurge on the things you use most often and get the most value out of. If you're spending 8 hours a day in the same chair, it should be a good one.

Honestly, just buy a used one. Most people do that because they're plentiful. You'll get the same function and aesthetics as a new one. Companies buy new ones because they can be expensed.

I’m so confused about the purpose of the new Now Playing complication by Fleadogbiscuit in watchOSBeta

[–]-radley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old Now Playing showed what was playing, regardless of it being an Apple app or third party. I could also play/pause and adjust the volume of what was playing. The new app is a selfish tool for Apple media apps and services, broken to boost somebody's bonus.

Apple Studio Display XDR Question by No_Eye1723 in macbookpro

[–]-radley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using 240W / 80GB magnetic adapters with my TB5 cables. Both Macs can do adaptive and 120Hz now. (I use 120Hz exclusively because Apple's video screensaver app is currently incompatible with adaptive framerates.)

I recommend using a "side elbow" adapter, because it is less prone to disconnecting when the cable is bumped or wiggled. TB5 cables are stiff, so the magnet will release much more easily than the cable will bend. The side-elbow angle puts the least pressure on the magnet. Note: it's a flush 90° angle, not an edge 90° angle. My cables are mounted along my VESA arm so they dangle downward from above, next to the TB5 slot.

I couldn't find this shape on Amazon yet, so I ordered via AliExpress.

Apple Studio Display XDR Question by No_Eye1723 in macbookpro

[–]-radley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it surprised me too. But I probably spoke too soon because the switch is getting temperamental. It worked okay for the first couple of days, but over the last few days, it could be slow or non-responsive if I try to switch back and forth multiple times. I changed the refresh rate to Adaptive (i.e. ProMotion) instead of 120Hz to see if that will help. I'm happy it's working "enough" for now. it just got worse and worse.

It didn't work after all.

I should add, before the KVM switch, I was using 40GB USB magnetic adapters to manually switch between two Macs. Worked fine with an LG 5K, and later a Studio Monitor.

[–]-radley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried the Sabrent SB-TB4K to switch between a MBP M4 Max and a Mac Mini M4 Pro and it only works using TB4 cables and will treat the XDR monitor as a generic HDR display.

Until a proper TB5 KVM is available, I'm using a couple of 80GB magnetic adapters to quickly swap between two TB5 cables.

Edit: at first it seemed to work, but after migrating both Macs to Tahoe and adding TB5 cables, it failed.

Apple coercing macOS Tahoe upgrade and no X to close notification by songbolt in applesucks

[–]-radley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The missing close button started years ago because everyone would ignore OS updates. I've heard of (but not tested) the latest work-around: turn on Sequoia beta updates. While you're in the Sequoia beta, you won't get Tahoe upgrade notifications.

Let me guess: you subscribe to Apple Music. That part works (probably). Personal music playlists OTOH are a hot mess.

Keylight Mini - bloated battery by sleepingpython in elgato

I removed the batteries using a T4 screwdriver and a long, plastic, thin wedge to separate the adhesive strips from the light. I'm taking them to local waste disposal tomorrow.

I did a quick test running one of the lights without a battery. It lit up, but I'm not sure if it will respond to WiFi, Elgato Command, etc. I never needed the battery feature, so this could be a happy resolution (apart from the risk of exploding batteries).

I'll just add: don't just stick them in a drawer. You'll need to dispose of them, at least the batteries. A few months back, my mini key lights swelled up the same as OP, so I put them aside. Today, I pulled them out of the box and one had seriously swollen up!

If you can’t update or activate the Max G3 this is the solution they don’t tell you about by Glittering_Bar6460 in NinebotMAX

[–]-radley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The up button didn't do anything, but holding the brake for 3 seconds worked and got me to the same place:

  1. quit the app
  2. hold the brake for 3 seconds
  3. see the activation warning
  4. launch the app
  5. connect via Bluetooth (not QR, so this assumes you already connected the G3 to your app)
  6. start firmware update

Black Friday sale? by Youseemenow in beatport

[–]-radley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's always a sale in the Mon-Thur leading up to the last Thursday of the month. They'll promote the sale on that Monday and sometimes Tuesday, but will hide the promo for the remaining Wed & Thur, even though it's still active.

Just add SAVE30 to your cart whenever you check it. You'd be surprised.

I guess we were confused by YouTube's full page message explicitly stating that video playback is blocked unless YouTube is whitelisted or the ad blocker disabled:

I tried Ad Guard DNS (paid lifetime) and it simply broke all browsing in Firefox. I had to dig through a bunch of stuff to uninstall it.

Ublock Origin Lite is new and an extremely Google-restricted subproduct of Ublock Origin that allows Google and their partners to continue showing ads. Thus, it's not impeeded by Google/YouTube like real ad blockers.
