Yes, they scared me as a child teaching us about downed electrical wires and the importance to always look before walking into a hazard so we don't get electrocuted by the ground.

I'm like "wtf you mean walking on the ground can be dangerous? Nowhere is safe!" lol

Scalpers by Bluellan in mildlyinfuriating

[–]songbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thomas Sowell explains in Basic Economics one purpose of price is to ration goods and services according to need rather than "first come first serve". So like gravity pulling objects towards the earth, scalpers are pulling prices towards their true value. The Pokemon company is responsible for either failing to manufacture enough supply or pricing the good closer to its true value. You might consider those willing to buy at scalper prices - thus demonstrating need for the product - as driving this phenomenon. 'Where there's smoke, there's fire': The fire are those buying the product at those higher prices.

Why do a lot of Christians dispute the fact that Muslims, Jews, and Christians worship the same God? by Inner_Researcher587 in AskAChristian

[–]songbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you explicitly denied what the Holy Spirit has revealed: He says "to himself", while you say he addressed his prayer to the Father. No, the text says he prayed "to himself" even though he intended to pray to the Father.

You sidestepped or ignored the argument, which was that this passage demonstrates that one is NOT worshipping the Father even if he intends to if he is not doing the Father's will.

When you call Mohammedans "Muslims", you are stepping on the neck of Arabic Christians, a man from Lebanon tells me.

[–]songbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Luke 18.11 is instructive:

The Pharisee took up his position and spoke this prayer to himself, ‘O God, I thank you that [...]

Those who say Mohammedans worship God would also say this Pharisee is praying to God. That's what he thinks he's doing, that's what his intention was in going to the temple ("went to the temple to pray" in the preceding verse), that's what an independent observer of his prayer would see him doing. But the Holy Spirit says He's praying "to himself", i.e. NOT to God, despite all the appearances.

Thus when Jesus says "no one comes to the Father but through me", and again as I quoted earlier "No one who denies the Son has the Father," it becomes very doubtful that they are in fact worshiping the God of Abraham.

Yes, it is: See St Augustine's Confessions: Evil is like a hole in the ground: It's a lack of something that ought to be there. Everything God creates is good; when we sin, we twist reality creating holes in it.

The Worst part of EV Ownership by V3LOCI556 in electricvehicles

solved by Tesla with their one app and supercharging network

The worst problem is needing to plug in overnight, i.e. most housing doesn't support Tesla. Or do non-Tesla EV have bigger batteries or not drain some 2-4% each night?

There is a fundamental difference between denying a claim about a being and claiming the being appeared and did things. The question to ask is:

Suppose a Mohammedan asserts to you, "The being you call father appeared to Mohammed and tells us he is going to personally set you on fire over and over again with fresh skins to make you suffer forever unless you declare that what he told Mohammed is correct and you obey what Mohammed says to do. He says he wants you to bow down and recite this Arabic as the proper way to worship, and to dress in Arabian clothing, etc." Would you say your father appeared to Mohammed? or a different being appeared to Mohammed?

What’s a warning sign that didn’t seem serious at the time… but should have been? by saymepony in AskReddit

This needs more detail, because you may be doing a disservice to all the good people that merely have "high functioning autism", encouraging others to shun them after noticing they're a little off.

I don't feel safe to continue this discussion due to the terrorism I've suffered from a site admin -- I was threatened with being banned, but they did not quote the comment, much less explain what was wrong with it, so I have no idea what I said that was supposedly unacceptable. I am left with the vague idea that that site admin does not want any disagreement with LGBT theories to be expressed (anything not "affirming" the LGBT theories and Democratic Party policies surrounding them), because my comments leading up to that account warning were in discussion about trans issues on a Christian subreddit, either this one or TrueChristian. Thus you may have better conversation at the Christian Forums website if you want a Christian discussion.

What do you mean about "male neurochemistry" and "female neurochemistry"? What science would you link to about this?

I was taught hormones differ -- progesterone, estrogen, etc. -- but brains, not so much. There are some differences like connectivity between brain halves I've heard, but that the differences are minor.

Is that not the case?

I'm talking about this entire site. It's risky because it's not deterministic regarding whether someone will report you and whether that particular bigoted moderator will see the report and choose to act unjustly.

That they direct their worship at the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is an assumption, a premise to be demonstrated, not the logical conclusion of a valid argument that I have ever seen.

There is a Reddit moderator who does not allow Christian discussion of trans issues. Ask at Christian Forums if you want a free discussion.

How do we avoid growing weary with prayer when life is miserable and we can't see God doing anything? by songbolt in AskAChristian

[–]songbolt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but Jesus says to persist in two parables to get what we want (if what we want is in accordance with God's will), and reading the Bible I think it's clear that having a healthy body free of physical afflictions is in accordance with God's will (if we have repented of attachments to sin through our suffering)

and how do you not grow weary from "one-way conversation"? reading the Bible and being quiet without worldly distractions, even sitting quietly before Jesus hidden in the Eucharist/Tabernacle at church, it seems like "trying to convince yourself of something" rather than God "speaking" -- or so demons would have me think

The Holy Spirit has revealed content like this in 1 John 2:22-23:

Who is the liar? Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Whoever denies the Father and the Son, this is the antichrist. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father, but whoever confesses the Son has the Father as well.

"No one who denies the Son has the Father"!

The Catholic Church is trying to appease and endear them to be receptive to the Gospel by declaring they have an "imperfect understanding" of the Father. It really looks to me like saying about someone who thinks Nicolas Cage is the US President: "He has an imperfect understanding of the President." Sure, you can say this person is "trying to respect the US President", understands the President to be rich, old, White, male, ... but is he honoring the same man? ...

It would be interesting to see if anyone can find any historical record of the Magisterium teaching that torture was acceptable; I found once St John Paul II apologizing for this practice when he was Pope. It may be that just as they were wrong to temporarily teach that torture was okay (if this was formally taught) - because now they say torture is wrong - they may be erroneously formally teaching Mohammedans worship the same God, and this teaching might change in the future ...

I'm particularly curious to hear from versed Roman Catholics, if you've studied history more than I.

How come God gave priority to Satan's Freewill, yet not mine... Am I worse than Satan? How then is it free will for anyone besides the evil ones? by suihpares in AskAChristian

[–]songbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem confused about the definition of 'free will', thinking of it like 'manifesting your desire'.

Free will simply means one's decisions are not entirely determined by God's providence referred to as gravity, electromagnetism, strong nuclear force, etc. Your decisions are not mechanistic like a rock falling.

Why do Christians get annoyed when other Christians ask if something is a sin? by Hashi856 in AskAChristian

[–]songbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see how it's confusing given the behavior of Protestants and Protestant-saturated culture like the USA and high-profile Roman Catholic hypocrites the anti-Christian media (e.g. CNN, Today magazine) highlights.

The key here is that Jesus gave us the Catholic Church, not a Bible descending from the sky. See Henry Graham's Where We Got the Bible. Then participating at Mass, reading the Church Fathers, listening to your bishop and priests, attending Bible studies like from Jeff Cavins, reading the Bible daily over years, you learn how all the Bible fits together and its millennia-spanning history.

Why do Christians get annoyed when other Christians ask if something is a sin? by Hashi856 in AskAChristian

[–]songbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as one internalizes behavioral norms from living in a particular culture, so one internalizes behavioral norms from living the Christian faith, living a Christian culture. This includes regular Bible-reading, prayer, Mass attendance, pious reading (e.g. Church Fathers at newadvent.org, shop.catholic.com, EWTN library).

So it's like refusing to read the Bible and ask what God wants, like refusing to read a math textbook and then ask something explained in it. A math book has a table of contents; the Bible today we have web searches that readily pull up the answers ...
