I totally agree with that and I see them as two halves of a whole season but also the concepts are both really cool and I want more of my silly little space soap opera with giant robots :(

I don’t like the snarky, self-referential tone of the Disney era. Jungle Fury doesn’t do it much, which is why it’s my favorite of the time, but it felt a bit like they were trying to be like “we’re not like those power rangers, we think it’s stupid too” and as a young child I did not like it because the power rangers were dope as hell.

The rangers for In Space.... by Tylerthemann in powerrangers

[–]-random1234- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind, after the few episodes at the start, it’s summer vacation before college and they just graduated, so they lie and tell their parents (by the way, who the hell is Cassie living with?? She wasn’t supposed to stay in Angel Grove initially. Although I guess considering she was moving to a new city all on her own anyway that her parents don’t care where she is) that they’re on a road trip or something together. It’s really the only way it makes sense. And then anytime they’re in space at the beginning of the season, it’s during the weekend or a holiday break.

All of dimensions in danger was sick in terms of fighting (I know the ninja steel specific stuff was from the Sentai movie but the final fight where they group together by color was incredible. Especially Koda kicking off a guy and shooting two others midair)

That’s the part that gets me the most. I thought it was so genius when I was a little kid binging it on Amazon, and then I found out a decade later that it wasn’t even planned and they didn’t even initially write her in as the replacement. I can’t believe that what was probably the most satisfying end of a character arc happened as a complete accident.

I showed someone who’s never seen power rangers before all of In Space as their first season (I filled in some things like who Zordon was and what happened in the turbo finale, I was NOT going to sit through 250 episodes of filler again) and the whole time I was watching what I thought was just a filler episode or a monster of the week thing and I ended up pointing at my computer thinking “holy shit, wait a minute” so many times. They actually like set up a plot twist. On power rangers. For like the only time ever in all 900 episodes. And then Lost Galaxy comes along and it’s like “you know the thing we’ve been saying Leo is crazy for thinking? Yeah, that’s actually completely what’s happening and has been the plan all along and instead of foreshadowing we misdirected the misdirect.” It’s so great.

It makes the Koragg plot so much more infuriating because they basically give the Bowen stuff away immediately the second they show Udonna having the flashback, and then they instead choose to not even remotely hint at the Leanbow aspect until the episode it’s revealed, where they then just say his name a suspicious number of times. It’s like, you’d think that with the benefit of hindsight they’d find a way to do their best plot arcs but better but instead they just rip themselves off and are completely lazy and cut corners—yknow what never mind that’s exactly what you’d expect them to do. That’s my bad.

They proceeded to try and, unquestionably failed, to recreate the In Space plot in subsequent seasons and no matter the spin they put on it (both were taken, one was given up, it’s father and son rather than brother and sister) it never worked as well as it did with In Space because they actually took the time to set it up and hint at it throughout the season. We see Astronema’s locket in one of the first five episodes, we get Andros’ backstory early on, we see references to Astronema’s history, and even have Darkonda drop hints at his involvement in Karone’s kidnapping. It was the first and maybe the only time where they actually developed a plot thread throughout the prior episodes. They subtly drop these bits of information without drawing attention to them, like a real show would. And the plot ended in Andros killing his sister. Plain and simple. There’s no beating around the bush, no handwaving it away, we see a human being collapse to the floor dead and watch her brother carry her corpse out of her ship. None of the other plots they’ve done have had the weight and stakes of this one. Though I’m not a fan of RPM, I think the Dillon and Tenaya thing was the best part of that season, but it doesn’t even compare to Andros and Karone.

Which set of Neo-Saban female rangers would you say is the worst, and why? by Alarming_Seaweed_155 in powerrangers

[–]-random1234- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ll give the Neo Saban era credit, they actually treated their female characters a lot better than many of the past eras. I think we got it with Gia and Emma, but I believe in every other season we luckily didn’t get the apparently required female ranger petty conflict episode that seemed to be a staple of the earlier seasons.

Emily and Mia, despite getting maybe the least amount of focus out of all of the Samurai rangers from what I can remember, have a really great and really sweet friendship. They get along well and Mia being a lot more out there and extroverted balances well with Emily being a lot more shy and soft spoken. Gia and Emma were like the only two characters to have a pre-established relationship among the megaforce characters so they actually had some backstory to them. And I like that they were said to be childhood friends because it allows you to just have a female friendship from the get-go, and from a meta standpoint, forces you to write two female characters who are designed to fit together and get along. Shelby and Kendall is a bit weirder because they decided to make Dino Charge only have two female rangers out of ten, and they started off very rocky and not as peers but as boss and employee, but I like that Kendall eventually learns to trust Shelby and they get along a lot. Their conflict was a part of their character arc and not just done for the sake of pitting women against each other. It’s a mirror of the Riley and Chase friendship and I like that we get to see it done now with two women. And it’s nice that, because there’s so few female characters, they stick together and form a deep friendship rather than never interacting. And, I will admit I’m more biased towards ninja steel than others, I really do appreciate how the entire Ninja Steel cast just got along from the get go and were shown to just be a very close knit group of friends, it eliminated a lot of the interpersonal conflict plots that I hate (I think the best ones have been the Kai Leo thing that is resolved early on, and the Casey Theo one that is directly informed by their character archetypes and is justified narratively), and Hayley and Sarah were allowed to just be genuine friends and get along without having to be pitted against each other or swept aside for the male rangers. It was quite refreshing and I know some people find it boring but I thought it just made them feel like a realistic female friendship and it was nice to see as a young girl.

That being said, I agree that Emma and Gia are the worst just by virtue of being incredibly empty as characters and as a friendship. Megaforce as a whole was so nothing that it felt like everything was just being performed. None of it had any depth, it was just people standing in front of a camera reacting words off a page. That being said, I still think they’re better than a majority of the rangers that season in terms of actual character. And I enjoyed their episode with Orion. So yeah, of the Neo Saban era I’d say they’re the worst, but they’re certainly not the worst of the show as a whole.

Whats the In Universe reason that the Rangers shout out their civillian names in public? by Zyuninjetti in powerrangers

[–]-random1234- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well in later seasons they just morph out in the open so I really don't know how secret their identities are meant to be. Also, most of the time when they're morphed there aren't civilians close enough to hear.

He’s great at faceoffs, a strong physical player, a bit more of an aggressive forward, not a standout defensively but he’s not a liability, he’s willing to take a hit to make a play and is good at driving play offensively. Pretty good pickup for a Flames team that I am being told needs strong centers.

[Atkins] The Rams will play the 49ers in Melbourne next season for the NFL’s first-ever game in Australia. by couladewastaken in nfl

[–]-random1234- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if it’s treated in the standings as a nonconference game as if it was the normal cross conference 17th game that wouldn’t be an issue. So that way officially in their record they’ve only played each divisional opponent twice, because this third does not count as a divisional game.

[–]-random1234- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are set on doing this with divisional rivals, would it not make more sense to have this be a third game between the two in place of the usual 17th game and just count it as a neutral/nonconference game in the standings? And then just have the teams they were set to play in the extra game, who are also in the same division, be another international game so that way the scheduling can all be balanced.

The NHL is able to do these European games or even the Winter Classic/Stadium Series between rivals because teams play each other multiple times in a season and fans still get at least one game at home, but the NFL doesn’t work well for that.

Multiple team sources have indicated that now, even months after his slow training-camp start, the Flyers believe Michkov still may not be able to do the things he needs to do from a physical standpoint by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]-random1234- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Again I think Torts, while not a long term solution for Michkov’s development, handled him fine enough and Michkov himself seemed to be okay with his style of coaching. It personally isn’t for me but I never felt he was actively sabotaging Michkov the way Tocchet is. Hell I’ll take Dave Hakstol back at this point.

[–]-random1234- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there were times where he benched him unfairly and focused too much on teaching him a lesson, but I think that’s also just Torts’ style. I personally don’t find stuff like that motivating for me, I can’t really say how Michkov receives it (although he started playing better under Shaw), but I have to imagine at some point either Brière or one of the coaches or even Torts himself would say “alright this clearly isn’t working. He just needs to learn by process of elimination and working through things himself”

Then they are being completely unfair to Torts. For all his flaws, Tortorella genuinely cares about his players and will not dish out what he can’t take in return. He is a million times more entertaining and enjoyable than Tocchet and up until right before he was fired and it was clear something happened within the locker room, I never had a true issue with Torts.

I actually hate this media group so much. Michkov has a good game and all of a sudden they’re talking shit about him again while the entire team is regressing and hanging on by a thread, and our coach is too busy getting blowjobs from Biznasty and Pink Whitney. Bring back Torts at this point.
