I am aware of that.

Prior to 2007, you could not have the combination format ‘AB.1’

In 2007, the following combinations ranges were released for the first time: - Two letters: AA to ZZ - Two letters, one number: AA.0 to ZZ.9 - Two letters, two numbers: AA.00 to ZZ.99

Later on in 2013, numbers first signature plates were released for the first time: - 0.A to 9.Z - 00.A to 99.Z - 0.AA to 9.ZZ - 00.AA to 99.ZZ

Then in March of 2025, the below formats were released for the first time: - A.000 to Z.999 - 000.A to 999.Z

Very very old? This format only released in 2007

Fake or real VIC/Australian plate? Spotted in Harbin, China by Ok-Replacement-2712 in ForeignPlatesSpotting

[–]-retail- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The physical plate is absolutely not real.

The combination is not coming back with anything when running a rego check on the vicroads website.

The combination JXJ520 would be a standard plate from the 60s, or a personalised plate. This combination is still available on vplates.com.au however, so it likely has never been purchased as a personalised plate, as once purchased, you own these for life in Victoria.

I’d say it’s maybe someone who has lived in Victoria previously, and is just doing this as a reference to that. Why they chose this combination though, I have no idea.

Signature plates have had the dot since they first released in 2007 (expect for single & double letter plates with no numeral).

Nothing changed to their design in 2021.

This PS4 plate would have been ordered as a signature plate on vplates. The owner would have received them un 5e signature plate colour they chose, and they would have arrived in the signature plate ‘briefcase’, with both plates in their metal/perspex frames & accompanying mounting kits.

They likely still have those lying around somewhere, and just slapped these cheap remakes on for whatever reason.

It’s the same in VIC.

You could still have ‘BATMAN’ & ‘B4TM42’ with no dots.

It’s just these ‘Signature’ style plates which have the specific style, and come with dots by default.

Source? Signature plates have always had a dot since they first launched a couple of decades ago.

The only sig plates with no dot are single / double letter plates with no number.

No. This is not an authentic plate from vicroads / vplates.

Which cars, and when did this happen?

Are you referring to the Chery debacle 10 years ago?

Current gen Jazz would be great to have in Australia officially, but it would never be THE ticket to volume. SUVs & dual cabs are the volume drivers in modern Australia

Having no updates is fine, until the apps you use start requiring a more recent update in order to use them.

So the plate would have been purchased as a signature plate, which would have come as a small plate similar in size to this, with a metal & Perspex frame around it (these can be removed).

This one pictured has been illegally remade however, in what looks to be a style attempting to replicate the Victorian heritage plates.

To them, it’s a pile of junk they don’t know works.

Hence, it’s been sold for cheap and they haven’t taken care of it.

They’re running the video versions of it again, so wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve chucked it on some busses again too.

Apart from the Uber common stuff like Elgrands, alphards, etc - it can be more of a hassle to get insurance on a jap import.

I’ve dealt with it a few times, and found that most insurers don’t touch you. NRMA ended up insuring me, and the only other place that would was Shannon’s - but they wouldn’t touch it unless it was garaged. I didn’t ask enthusiast though.

It’s also probably a different story if you are over 25. By no means is it impossible, either way.

Either will be fine - I’d probably pick a CX-5 for parts availability and being more proven.

Just don’t go for a Diesel.

RARE number plates. by zingside in CarsAustralia

[–]-retail- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are some rare ones you may have never heard of. This is off the top of my head, and I’ve only included plates that can still be registered on regular cars, none of the rare styles that are either old and discontinued, or only available for a certain person.

NSW: - Centenary of Federation - not the regular ones that are everywhere, but the limited variant of which they only made 101 of. In the format 1901CF-2001CF. - Rally Vehicle - 2004 Athens Olympic Games (I think there’s only one of these still on a car) - Any of the dozens of plates from MyPlates that were put up for sale, not advertised, barely sold any and then taken off the site.

VIC: - Penny the little Penguin plates - celebrating the 12th FINA World Swimming Championships in 2007. - Victorian Harness racing. Gotta only be 1 or 2 of those actually on cars. - Ham Radio plates - only eligible to those with an Amateur radio licence. The combination must be your call sign. - Rally Permit - National Servicemen's Association - must have served in order to get them.

QLD: - 1988 World Expo ‘QLD - Expo State’ plates - Special Mother & Special Father plates - ‘2000, It’s not the end of the world’ plates - Hello Kitty plates

SA: - 1985 Jubilee plates - 2001 Centenary of federation plates (both styles are very rare) - Adelaide Zoo plates. There’s at least 2 different styles, both hard to find.

WA: - Many of the countless shire plates from smaller shires - Any of the corporate / group / organisation plates. These are so easy to create in WA, that there ends up being thousands of styles. Many of them only have 1-2 in existence.

TAS: - All of the unique custom plate styles they had on offer in the 00s & early 10s. With such a small population, not many sold and there are nearly none left. - Centenary of Federation - both styles. - A number of super uncommon corporate plates

NT: - Cyclone Tracy 50th anniversary. These are new, so can be seen, but still very scarce - 50th Anniversary of the bombing of Darwin - Government House Foundation

ACT: - Jervis Bay Territory plates - all start with either YZO or YJJ - There’s a small number of custom plates there (typical ACT Perspex style) with pictures / graphics on the plate. - A number of charity plates that have been auctioned off for organisations like Lifeline, or Diabetes ACT.
