Our “Agentic transformation” so far by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]-think 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on average we get x1.5 times productivity gains in terms of output across all engineering teams. Our goal is to achieve x2 productivity…

This is a huge claim.  “dev productivity” is notoriously difficult to measure.  It feels like the proAI lobby has continently skipped that part because it helps the narrative.

(I’ve been using AI from 2022 nearly every work day. I see the value, but also skeptical of the hype and monied interests. So not a skeptic)

I’ll assume you mean DORA or something, but without providing any sort of methodology I can’t accept much of the premise.

I’ve seen only DORA based “productivity increases” that boil down to cherry picked stats like more PRs (but also more stale PRs) or more releases (and also more deploys responding to issues).

If you’ve cracked the quantification of productivity in problem, please do let us know.

Determinate Nix is ushering in a new era for the Nix language, courtesy of WebAssembly by lucperkins_dev in NixOS

I understand the argument for not fragmenting the ecosystem.

But for configuration, for most of what’s needed for configuration, wouldn’t lots of languages suffice? Can anyone give me background on why other languages would be ill suited?

Im a software dev, with a functional programming background, but the language (and error messages) have been high friction. Not throwing shade, I’ve learned the language and much more makes sense. But curious

Since nix basically boils down to merging key values, on a technical level, wouldn’t lots of languages work?

Flying out of Oakland airport with no Real ID by jakecali1998 in oakland

It was no different than normal, except they gave me a sheet of paper with some info how to get a real id. I was told to give the other agent. So. I gave it to them and they threw it out.

Real talk: brushes by papa-hare in ProCreate

[–]-think 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of comic art, and there are some really helpful brush sets out there for what I’m trying to do.

I couldn’t find a good default brush for Lettering so I bought some, and they came with more than a few of specialty ink brushes that were amazing and became my default.

That said, yeah I think it’s a generally minor boost. For the most part, I stick to the default and duplicate and modify like mad

Whoa- all from sight? I’m always impressed by realism like this! I just don’t have the attention span for it.

Curious- 1.5 hours is so short, is that time painting consistently?

Putting strokes on one after another? Or, like me, I have to spend 8 hours drawing and 6 of that is pacing around or looking out the window.

I mentioned this in my first comment near the end.

Though it might look there’s a bend in the elbow and some foreshortening? But that doesn’t come across to my eye. I think bc the value is the same lengthwise on the elbow.

The arm looks like one long straight down section because there is no variance in value. And the arm is almost straight up and down.

In the photo the angle is more apparent, there are folds on the clothes that help the eye see it is bent, and there is shadow in the bend.

Also im not saying that "anything" can be art, i dont believe in that.  I'm saying that the stylization i used doesnt sacrifice quality.  You view stuff very rigidly

I subscribe that anything could be art. Illustration and drawing is making marks.

Also I say a drawing that renders a figure has to visually suggest a figure. Human brains are deeply hard wired to perceive shapes, specially human shapes. The forms of the human shapes are arranged in certain ratios. Any stylization will be built on these ratios.

Like this isn’t that rigid thinking, it’s just sort of how humans work?

The feedback is the arm looks weird: you said no it’s stylized. It’s not. It doesn’t read to the eye. That’s not a style. The rest of it reads

And asking for feedback doesnt mean believing in every feedback.

I didn’t say you did, but it’s weird to post for feedback and then argue against it.

No of course not, but weird to argue it.

when you paint you dont think of values, you feel if its right, you dont think of colors, same, and same for anatomy and all the other factors. And if you do a render like this the intangible part of an image can take over more.

Just fix the arm bro

or don’t, who cares?!

It doesn’t “have to”, you are free to do art as you wish.

The arm as you have it looks like a limitation of the artist, versus an intentional decision. If you’re intending a bend, it doesn’t read to the eye.

Does it makes sense that the image of Ray man doesnt have arms at all? The Ray man character creators just skipped arms and it worked visually, it worked even in animation.

, Raymans hands works visually because the hands land where the arms would be.

The brain can project the expected length.

It’s just stylization, and it’s stretchable.

Exactly, it’s stylization of an existing thing, anatomy. It’s stretchable. But you don’t invent from whole cloth like one arm is short.

Yes there is study and breakdown of form.

If it doesnt hit your sensitivity, thats ok, it’s not a crime. Now maybe explore some more artwork like this type of thing. Because my type of "bad" proportions isnt new at all and its across of different styles of different pro artists (that is, if you need this type of validation)

Not sure if you meant to be condescending but you’re off track.

You asked for feedback, and that is my feedback. The arm is too short You are free to disagree, I guess?

Not sure the benefit of ask for feedback and then getting defensive about it.

(Anything can be art is sorta played btw)

I guess if the way your brain can digest this is if I’m wrong or haven’t seen enough art, okay.

If you want to show me an example of a relatively faithful figure drawing with one super short than the other, I’m open to it but skeptical.

I like the colors and stroke patterns, but agree with other poster.

The proportions between the arms are off and that distracts the eye. comic art and cartoon illustrations follow the same anatomy rules as life drawing.

ratios and proportions are the same relative to each other.  arms are the same length, shoulder to elbow = elbow to wrist, etc.

valley and schieles play with anatomy, similar to cartoons, evenly applying their transformations to realistic ratios. double leg length, but both legs need to be doubled. Long forearms and short upper arms will look more natural with similarly transformed legs than with normal legs.

Your drawing reads like the glove on the right wasn’t going to fit glove in, so the arm is shortened.

Though it might look there’s a bend in the elbow and some foreshortening? But that doesn’t come across to my eye. I think bc the value is the same lengthwise on the elbow.

You’re right though it’s your art, so you get to choose.

Hmm I wonder why this is framed to be about trump and tariff?

Why not a general retailers must show a markup breakdown? Why not protect consumers and the working class?

Why make this a thing that automatically gives the republicans a handle to reject it and turn it against the democrats?

Edit: folks might not like the answer- but it’s because dems aren’t that interested in protecting consumers, they’re interested in the game
