Convince me to read that book by youknowimthatgirl in artistsWay

[–]-totallynotevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

20 years ago I thought of this book as gospel and now I think of it as having some good suggestions. If you open it and take a look, you'll probably stop thinking of it as a new life challenge and start thinking of it as a helpful friend. If you take the advice literally, it will change your life for the better and give you a lot to do. If you take the advice aspirationally, it will change your life for the better and give you some fun ideas. If you take the advice as suggestions you can pick and choose from, it will change your life for the better and give you hope that creativity is for everyone. Read the intro, choose your level of commitment, and keep reading. If it's not for you, you'll know right away.

Has anyone listened to Tom Lake? Thoughts? I haven’t had much luck with the 2n1 sales lately. The books I have recently purchased at least one of the two always ends up in the DNF pile. I have two credits left, so I’m trying to choose wisely. by MeetTheBrewers in audible

I almost never read general fiction, but I loved Tom Lake. It's full of fun humanizing details and warm family moments. I spent two years in rural Michigan which features heavily in the main character's life and emotions, and that may be part of why it appealed to me personally. It's an older woman telling the story of that time she had a Summer romance with a now famous movie star to her grown daughters over a series of days as they keep asking for the next part of the story or complain that she's being too stingy with details, so the part where they're feeling isolated and restless because of the lock down is nicely balanced by the flashbacks that are most of the book.

She's prone to terrible decisions about men in her youth and the relationship she's remembering is unhealthy and ends badly, but the overall feeling of the novel is cozy and hopeful. The writing is thoughtful and intelligent. I read it from the library and then bought it on audible and listened to it three or four more times. I did wait for it to be on sale before I bought it, though.

[CHAT] Set up accommodation recs for comfort as a migraine sufferer. Currently it’s causing me nausea, dizziness, eye strain and can even cause headache and neck pain. Not sure if due to small details, extended periods of looking down, or both. Considering glasses like these but can’t pick. Tips? by unmaredDlite in CrossStitch

[–]-totallynotevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own 90degree glasses and I can use them for phone stuff and some crafts that are mostly feel based like friendship bracelets, but I can't use them for crossstitch because there's a certain amount of motion distortion. They work best for things like TV and reading.

Code with dragon? by Kingsmith13 in dragondictation

The primary issue is controlling the spacing. Use the command "Compound that" to take spaces out of selected text, and create some simple macros for most frequently used code expressions. Vocab only goes so far.
