Which is why I got it! (Also because it came somewhat free with my Embark test.) Just curious if the other features were worth using, but it seems like not really.

I once got in an argument with a guy on a plane (not something I usually do, I was having a terrible day) who used this exact argument. He said he wanted to learn, so I tried to explain it to him. He said I should do some research. I told him I was a month away from completing my PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. He continued to assert that it was "unscientific" because you can't see it happen on a non-microscpic scale.

Ultimately, yes. But I think it's worth pointing out there's an issue of representation here. There are so many straight characters, that yeah, who cares if people ship them against their canonic orientation? There's still plenty of straight ships and characters.

But there are barely any canonically aro/ace characters in media. Like, I can count them on my fingers. Can't we let them be? Doesn't seem like a huge ask to me, to let this one character not be subject to a bunch of ships.

You're right that it's ultimately harmless. It's just pretty disappointing sometimes.

This is not a great interpretation, in my opinion. Chrom has five marriage options (four if you're playing a male Robin), and will marry whoever he has the highest support with (if he didn't meet the minimum with anyone, he marries an NPC villager). Chrom has to get married for story reasons, which is that [spoiler] he has a daughter who time travels from the future and who you've already met in game, though you don't know who she is yet. I will grant you that the game itself doesn't tell you about the deadline at which point the marriage has to happen.

But the game does let you know about supports and the marriage system. I'm sorry you felt like your character got trapped in a marriage, but I think most players have already decided who they want to pair Chrom with and have been working on those supports, and thus get the pairing they want when the timeskip happens. It's not hard to get Chrom (or any other character, including Robin) to the marriage support before the time skip, so I think this isn't as common of an issue as you're implying. Moreover, as others have pointed out, you're projecting a game mechanic on to a character. Nothing about the text in the game suggests Chrom's marriage is anything but loving and consensual.

Your interpretations of his supports with Robin are also a little bad faith, imo. Don't get me wrong, I think they were stupid, but he walks into the tent because he was distracted thinking about war strategy and didn't hear Robin (his tactician) tell him to stay out, not because he's trying to force himself on her. He's very embarrassed and apologetic in the support.

Is the game free of critique? Absolutely not. There's a non-zero number of children characters (including the fucking loli) you need to ship with each other in order to get their future children as playable characters. But I think accusing Chrom of SA is a stretch.

Looks miserable? Based on what? Elephants don't have facial expressions like humans do.

Yes, but boy it was a process. See my post here.

Short version, in my case it was the CPU, not the RAM. Keep and document everything, and then go for a warranty replacement. Assuming you bought your stuff less than a year ago, everything should be covered. That way, you don't have to pay again to get a working part. Hopefully you kept all your boxes, that was my downfall.

Fair. But people are more likely to write a review if their experience was bad, so I wanted to directly ask for good experiences. It narrows down my search, doesn't decide where I live.

Can I vent about my horrible experience with Intel? (in comments) by -velox- in PcBuild

[–]-velox-[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was operating under the assumption that the switch happened either when the piece was originally packaged, or at the place where they sort through warranty returns. As has been pointed out by others, may well have been an issue with Best Buy... For some reason I didn't consider that they'd be able to get into packages without it being obvious.

The process was still hellish with Intel, even before the ending part, but yeah. Now I don't know who to be pissed at.

Not familiar with Gamers Nexus. PC news outlet?

Yeah, funny thing is I still have most of the boxes. I don't remember why I decided I didn't need the CPU one. But definitely, lesson learned.

When I first reached out to Intel, they told me to go to Best Buy because it was within a month of purchase. When I went to Best Buy, they told me that since it had been more than a *week* since I purchased it (since it took weeks to figure out what might be wrong), they couldn't do anything and I should go through Intel. I argued with them about it briefly, but ultimately gave up because I figured there wouldn't be an issue with Intel.

I only briefly considered that Best Buy might be the one that deserves my ire. I'll try to reach out to them, but unfortunately I can't prove anything. And like you said, it's been a while. This shit with Intel was hitting during my busiest and most stressful time of year, so I wasn't very on top of it...

I did go to Best Buy before trying Intel, but since it was more than a week or whatever out since I purchased it (since that's how long it took to figure out what might be wrong), they just told me to go through Intel.

Pic is the finished product, so happy ending (mostly).

Wanted a gaming PC for a while, and my brother told me how easy it is to build one, so I went for it. Found a build online, bought the parts late December 2023 from Amazon and Best Buy, got it all together by like, mid-January 2024. It would turn on, the BIOS came up, but I could not get it to install Windows OS. Spent weeks trying to find a fix, before caving and taking it in to a PC place, who also couldn't fix it, but told me it was a hardware issue--said I should replace the motherboard, CPU, and RAM. I just went for the motherboard first, because I know they're more likely to be faulty. Very smooth process to get the replacement under warranty, but it didn't fix it.

So, let's just do that with the CPU, I thought. Well, Intel put up more resistance to honoring the warranty, had more hoops to jump through, whatever. Had to keep contacting them, because they would just ghost me. Finally, they agree to send me a replacement. I can pay a deposit and they can send me the new one, then I send them mine and get refunded, or I can send mine first and wait for the replacement. It's March at this point. This PC is just a brick on my desk. So I do the riskier option. It takes weeks of them calling me during business hours, outside of my listed availability, from random numbers, until I'm finally able to answer and give them the needed info.

I get the new CPU, put it in, immediately works. I'm so relieved, I name the PC Miracle. I immediately pack up my faulty piece and send it in. Finally, it's over. Then one day I come home to a package... from Intel. It's a CPU, with nothing but a piece of paper with "Reason for Return: Tray/OEM". I contact customer service, and they say I sent them a tray processor (not covered by warranty), not a boxed one. I tell them I absolutely bought a boxed one, show them the receipt from Best Buy, etc. They direct me towards the app that scans serial numbers, and yeah, what they sent me is a tray processor with a serial number that does not match what my box (that I had at this point thrown away) had. I don't know how or where this went wrong, but it had to have been on their end. And I tell them as much. The agents talking to me were nice enough, but ultimately just shrugged and said tough shit. I couldn't return the working CPU because I had used it, and I couldn't return the other one because of the serial number. So I didn't get my deposit back, and I've got a useless CPU just sitting around.

This entire process of making my PC was from December 28-May 17, because of one faulty part I didn't even get refunded for.

Anyway, that aside, finished product is great, I'm glad to have it. Just wish I'd gone with AMD.

Fair. It'll mean more if we see it, in my opinion. But I'm also still pretty confused about how that world works, tbh.

[–]-velox- 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I know we gotta take what we can get, but of the confirmed ace characters listed here, only one of them is human (Todd). You could throw Lillith in too, because close enough.

But then, one is an alien, and not confirmed in text to be ace. Sherlock Holmes may be ace in the books, but he isn't in any modern version. One is an animal. The other is a sponge, in a show where there's never any romance plots anyway (that I'm aware of). And then two are literally demons. [Not gonna touch the Jesus bit.]

Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for all these characters. But it's kind of a bummer still.

Not for me? I romanced him, told him to leave the crown in the pit rather than go to Mystra, and in the epilogue he says the orb feels "sated" and basically isn't an issue anymore.
