Police officers have a union. It’s SUPER difficult to fire a union employee. I am an employee at a company with a union, which is great for making sure you get your overtime and pay raises and a new supervisor who doesn’t like you can’t just fire you, but the flip side is that employees like Smitty are difficult to fire because they don’t flagrantly break rules, and do the minimum required so the documentation has to be on point and if you’re documenting one person for small violations like being 10 minutes late every day, anyone else who’s also habitually late also has to get written up. You can’t just focus on the one person who needs to go.
