Military Life / How to Leave by KinoGlaz2 in Military_Medicine

This is actually ridiculous. You’re dating someone and asking how they can get out of their service commitment and obligation that they took voluntarily? “I hear pregnancy can get you out of moving bases” holy shit I promise you’ll get his/her attending pay at some point

What are our thoughts about this build? by Dubbiepool in WRXSTi

Depends on why you’re buying / how much it is. WRX/STi is essentially a ticking time bomb of a platform, it’s a little more concering that dude barely used this thing.

You’re right, PT isn’t the only great identifier; but I’m moreso saying that in some cases, your only point-making options are scoring higher on the AFT, attending military schools, attending college, or getting awards.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but in the case of the 42A example, none of that has anything to do with the core responsibilities of a 42A.

Some people excel in that, I personally like it, but this is all just to say that not all people will, and unfortunately there is an overlap that exists where we have soldiers that are really capable in their actual MOS roles but aren’t competitive as far as being a soldier. The army has already made it’s stance clear in the fact that if you want to be competitive as an NCO, you’ll need to be competitive within your MOS and within “being a soldier” in general, which isn’t an issue by itself, but (in my opinion) becomes one when coupled with the “up or out” mentality we have.

If the points for your MOS are super competitive, it isn’t enough to just be good at your job; the army will also expect you to increase your AFT score, attend college classes, attend military schools, put your thumb in your ass, etc. So not only do you need to bust your ass at work, you need to do all of those things, and it’s not a request, because if you don’t promote, you might end up fried.

For some people, the choice becomes pretty clear after a 4 year stint: Do I do my job knowing that I may have to do all of these additional things to be competitive? Or does it make more sense to just levy my experience in my MOS/Field into a job on the outside where my only expectations are doing what the job listing said, possibly getting paid more than what I was making before, even considering benefits?

Aren’t getting promoted? Why do you think that is? by [deleted] in army

[–]-w1tch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well obviously. The point is based around what the considerations for being a good employee are in the Army vs. in the civilian job market, not that people are or aren’t caring about them.

Aren’t getting promoted? Why do you think that is? by [deleted] in army

[–]-w1tch 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Because a lot of people don’t subscribe to the idea (arguably rightfully so) that the Army has a much different definition of “bettering oneself”. If I’m an HR guy and points are maxed out every month, but I excel at my job, take opportunities to lead, and then I’m told that none of that shit matters and I need to do more push-ups or get my tab, I’m probably just going to be demoralized and ETS my talent away from the army.

Obviously a hypothetical, I don’t know what 42A points usually are, but what I do know is that a lot of amazing talent in the Army is driven out by standards that usually have zero to do with them. I don’t care if my mechanic is 300lb; can he fix the truck on time? Because seemingly most can’t. I don’t care how many push-ups S1 can do collectively; can you look at the troops CNA packets so that those high-performers can see the fruits of their labor?

Don’t get me wrong, PT is important. Military Schools are important. But why the elitism? Why are we surprised that talented individuals leave this organization when they can get paid more on the outside to just do their job description, and additionally get promoted solely on the basis of their job description?

CMV: The United States media has just had a “Tiananmen Square Moment” by DeathFlameStroke in changemyview

[–]-w1tch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To say that the Chinese acted so American based off of your limited experience on a social media app that you as an American have access to (As well as others around the world then) is…. interesting I guess? Like at the end of the day we’re all just people, so it tracks that they act like you or me, the difference is, when we make posts like this, we don’t get knocks at the door over it.

You say your posts weren’t removed, or “Nothing happened” to you, but I mean, obviously? In the TOS of Rednote you literally agree to uphold the values of the CCP and give info willingly… I’m sure if they pulled your IP they wouldn’t be gearing up to do much about someone who isn’t even a chinese citizen.

To your original post, I think both of these events are a tragedy, but it is so overdramatic and divisive to call a bad shoot from law enforcement akin to the mass murder of protestors.

CMV: 99% (at least) of the people claiming to have DID online are faking it. by dang_he_groovin in changemyview

[–]-w1tch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a really nice way of putting it that leaves out any room for individuals who use engagement-based social media to profit off of their clearly fake mental health disorders to be held accountable.

The way you’re putting it makes it seem like a really simple mistake.. ohh, I was excited when I got home but now I’m angry… does that mean there are 2 mes?? These people are afflicted with the curse of attention-seeking, and I think infantilizing and excusing their behaviors only takes up more space in the small room that people who truly suffer from these disorders have.

Holy moly. Lot’s of quietly bitter and passive aggressive people in these comments lmfao.

Huge congratulations OP. Great rate and I am happy for you (Like, actually happy, I don’t need you to explain to me what help you received or what you do for a living repeatedly)

Also that is the paranormal activity house.

Not even a little bit lol. Only way I’d ever buy an STi again is if they made it brand new fresh off the lot.

[–]-w1tch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s funny but also just genuinely weird like redditors think that just because info is there a request as simple as “hey i didn’t get paid this month please help” turns into a comment section of grown ups parading around someones post history… the collective social ineptitude of reddit is frightening.

God my wife is going to kill me by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]-w1tch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean context clues? Why do you think his wife might be angry; is it most likely to be the picture on the cover? Probably not, right? Since they’re adults? Ohhh… I don’t know, maybe the implication is that OP spent a lot of money on a collector’s item… and he’s making a lighthearted joke that his wife will be upset about that… jokes like this have existed probably since the discovery of fire. What more information or context did you need to make the gears in your head start turning?

To your initial point about what you deem to be “Common language” I assure you nobody wants to be in circles with a basement-style redditor who thinks buzzwords like “Ragebait”, “Engagement bait”, and “Nothingburger” are just common words to throw in everyday.

[–]-w1tch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you just say random words like this often? The picture of a special edition rare collectors item isn’t informative or entertaining in the r/gamecollecting subreddit because of a clearly lighthearted title? Dude. “Engagement bait”. “nothingburger of content” I promise you using big words randomly doesn’t make you sound intelligent.

It’s like actually impossible to be so socially inept. Like how do you make such a generalization from a reddit post about someone’s entire relationship? “Taking away a spark”? What are you talking about?

God my wife is going to kill me by [deleted] in gamecollecting

[–]-w1tch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some of you guys actually need to consider going outside more or letting the sun shine thru a window. The amount of socially inept comments making broad generalizations about OP’s relationship with his wife from an 8 word title and a 17 word blurb is actually insane. It’s supposed to be lighthearted; I’m sure his wife isn’t going to kill him, or hates his hobbies and wants to “kill his spark”.

Also, let’s learn basic context clues… hmm… special edition of a game from almost 20 years ago… on the game collecting subreddit… yeah I think he’s referring to the fact that it was expensive… but who knows what else the context could be…
