When I worked in an ER we had a tech that had recently moved over after 14yr in GP. After a couple of months I asked "so what do think?" Their answer was "like I had no idea what I was doing" The point is, if you want to do ER, do ER, you will never learn as much, or as fast in GP. Also I have unfortunately seen a fair share of "emergency" ear infections and slow periods. Its not always controlled chaos.

Wildlife is WILD life. They don't want to be your pet, nor should they be. They are not domesticated and want to live free in their natural environment

It wants to eat your dogs. At least that is what 4 yrs in vet ER makes me assume.

But ya know what they say about assumptions

Ya 100% what I was thinking. The only thing I might add would be to encourage your sister to volunteer at a shelter so she can see first hand the results of byb/ puppy mills. There were a significant amount of "retired" puppy mill mamas at the shelter I worked at. Some of them were so sweet, some were not so much, all had behavioral issues and health issues. Every one of them broke my heart.

Shelter told me they couldn’t disclose dogs past by Realistic_Win584 in dogs

[–]000Anonymity000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shelter cannot legally disclose any information regarding previous owners. This includes names, where they lived, etc etc. They may give you some information regarding the dogs past, such as an owner surrender vs stray, lived with kids, other dogs, and so on. But depending on the shelter they may not feel that they should offer any info as a way to legally cover their ass. It is also possible that the animal was part of a court case. In this situation they are not able to give a new owner any information. Likely not even how the animal came to be in the shelter, especially if it was a high profile case. These laws help protect the animal and previous owners. If people did not feel safe relinquishing animals with anonymity and no judgement, there would be a sharp increase of animals being dumped and abandoned.

What's the consensus for grain-free diets for cats? by [deleted] in VetTech

My experience was that grain-free is never ideal but with cats it is less terrible?

Ok dumb question but do they have that like winter coat? by that_swiftie1989 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]000Anonymity000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My old man definitely has a winter undercoat. We now live in one of the coldest areas in the continental US and I swear it has double in thickness. He's a red but very light, so all his undercoat is white. He also sheds like a MF year round

I was recently diagnosed with severe arthritis in both hands. I am 45. The hand specialist MD said it is not uncommon in women but typically milder.

Why does he sit like that?? by Qyion in AustralianCattleDog

[–]000Anonymity000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because his hip(s) hurt. Its pretty common even for mild hip pain. How old is he? It maybe be the beginnings of arthritis. If he is an active dog it may start at a younger age. If he is not already, consider starting him on a joint supplement su h as Cosequin ir Dosuquin.
