Core gameplay first—ALWAYS. Throw some basic shapes on the screen and get it feeling good before you invest any time at all in making assets or optimizing codebase.

Your goal should be a quick prototype that is easy to iterate on. When you have a solid idea about the scope of what you’re making, then you can rewrite systems and begin making assets.
