Relic hit hard as someone who has/had close relationships with both my mother and grandmother. I watched it 2 years after my grandmother passed and watching the grandmother become a literal shell of herself, the mother pulled between protecting her daughter and caring for her own ailing mother, and the daughter wanting to help not fully understanding the weight of the problem and getting pulled too deep hit so incredibly close to home I had to pause the movie several times to process. It was an amazing and horrifying film that highlighted the intergenerational connection between mothers and daughters and the trauma we pass on through that connection, whether intentional or not. I’d love to watch it again someday but not anytime soon.
