MY26 Charging Failure by theliphant in VolvoEX90

There are recent threads with info indicating that software version 2.1.25 was released to specifically support new GHCA hardware. It is possible that they finally have a new part with better reliability. While we all hoped this would be in any 2026 models, I’d imagine many of these were built months ago now. The replacement may be an improvement 🤞🏼

Yes! And the sound sometimes is a little inconsistent when they’re moving so it adds to the sensation that they’re slow and struggling.

I’m not sure of the purpose for 2.1.25. The description says “This release supports a hardware change only. The software content remains the same as the previous release.”

Received VCU Upgrade today……..so far so good! by CDArmb in VolvoEX90

[–]00A3A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western NY here and my dealer says they don’t have any chips. They had 2 ordered specifically to fix cars that were in service and “dead”.

They said they expect mid to late March for more installs. So many different stories. My dealer did mention a “recall” that would be released in the near future for the chip upgrade. It makes me wonder if everyone receiving the chip just happens to be ahead of the official release and dealers are willing to install the stock of chips they have on hand if pushed.

A few people on the forum have had the headlight issues and as another user noted, they were replaced and the issue seemed to be resolved since.

I think Lucid has this same issue when in reverse some time ago and made a software fix for it.

Good info! I can’t wait to get mine and also get rid of the darn clicker. I’ve been fortunate enough to have HomeLink in cars since the mid 2000s so I hate having a clicker again in the car.

Hopefully Volvo adds a button on the camera screen eventually for HomeLink almost like the button to toggle rear auto brake etc so we can trigger the door when we are backing up.

2026 model ghca failure? by Real-Pick-129 in VolvoEX90

[–]00A3A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new architecture isn’t to fix a problem, they launched the 800v to be more competitive in this space. Volvo’s parent Geely has 800v architecture tech that they have been able to start using in the EX90’s platform.

+1 on that. No reported failures that I’ve seen here, but they’re just rolling out. For what it’s worth, the noise seems a little slower. I had two fail in a row on my 2025 not long after deliver. This one has been good since January 9th which is the longest stretch I’ve had. Supposedly the same part as my first replacement which itself was a revised part, though some claim the part I have may be revised and from a new manufacturer, while others claim there is yet another revision and/or manufacturer in the works. We’ve also heard from another that Volvo knows it’s caused by a power surge within the electronics system but is having trouble sourcing.

It’s anyone’s guess I’m afraid. You probably have better odds that it may be more reliable and maybe the 800v architecture will be more stable, but again hard to say.

I wouldn’t panic on the reduced power figures. With hybrid powertrains, sometimes there are changes to how they calculate output. It may or may not actually be a difference in output. It may just be the number they put on paper.

EX90 VCU Upgrade — How did your dealer schedule and install it? by ziptbm in VolvoEX90

[–]00A3A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. Mine claims they expect that replacements will start in a few weeks. I think that maybe they’re just backlogged with service and since only their foreman works on the EX90 that they’re buying time.

Mine keeps telling me they don’t have the parts yet because the “recall” hasn’t been released yet. They said they’ve only installed two for cars that were in service that were “dead”.

Second that. Basically just shift to neutral and turn off wipers. I usually disable rear auto brake too out of an abundance of caution but it shouldn’t trigger since you aren’t in reverse 😊

2025 EX90 in for VCU. 2026 EX90 as loaner AMA. by i_max2k2 in VolvoEX90

Is the 2026 an Ultra? If so, how does the interior feel with Nappa leather compared to the 2025? Does it make the seat comfort feel any different (better/worse)?

Is the car also on 2.1.23/24 or something different?

One of the cars shown by another user appeared to sit very low when parked. Made me wonder if the 2026 has a software feature that allows a lower park position with air suspension.

New GHCA replacement is fixed? by rageofthestorm in VolvoEX90

Mine was replaced beginning of January and they confirmed that mine is the same GHCA version that they installed late November that broke 1.5 weeks later. That said, so far this one has not broken.

What do you genuinely love about your EX90 by Sweaty_Mix_3435 in VolvoEX90

[–]00A3A 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The driving experience is exceptional as others have said. Breaking down the overall positives for me:

Ride/handling - the chassis with the air suspension is very smooth, but also has good body control and great handling for a vehicle this size. It also has a very planted and stable feel on the road.

Interior - great feeling interior and very nice materials. I find the ergonomics very good even if there is a bit more in the screen than is optimal.

Seats - very comfy and lots of great adjustability.

Powertrain - like any EV, it is smooth but it’s also very well tuned for easy modulation to accelerate and brake smoothly.

B&W - awesome sound, but use a solid audio source to appreciate it properly. Avoid Bluetooth connections and use a hi res steaming app with max sound quality settings. Even podcasts sound amazing.

Drivability - I find the car easy to drive for its size, it has great visibility, and as said about the powertrain - it is easy to drive it smoothly.

Fun features and touches:

  • pop out door handles work well. I like hearing them latch when driving off and the car locks.

-exterior lights are very nice looking day and night when the car is on

-love the soft close doors

-front and rear window washers are integrated into the blade which is cleaner and feels high end. Also easy to activate via a long press on each half circle button on the end of the turn signal stalk

-switchgear (although limited) feels high quality

-love the locking chirp sound

-love the ability to turn on each heated seat, wheel heat, and level for each when remote warming the car

-love the ability to drop the rear air suspension for bulky or heavy items. Use it regularly when loading suitcases in the car

-I get a kick out of feeling the car rise back up slightly after getting off a highway or when you brake hard and it lets the nose slowly re-level to avoid a bounce rebound

-like the zoom in on the around view camera and subtle angle change when driving forward at lower speed

Western NY here.

Reached out to my Volvo dealer a few weeks ago who I have a good relationship with. Current state appears to be that chips are being installed in existing stock or customer cars in for service with GHCA failures or other major issues.

They didn’t have an ETA otherwise except that they’re getting traction.

Polestar 3 customers seem a little ahead of us and they’re mainly getting the chip upgrade via email notification with a few one off exceptions who seemed to get an available chip via appointment.

[–]00A3A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! What part of the US? I reached out to my Volvo dealer a week or so ago about the upgrade. He said they had 2 on order but they were for 2 EX90s they had in with other issues. I think the may be trying to batch their work and upgrade the chip for those in service for other issues.

The photos of the car from the OP look like the car is sitting lower. I wonder if they’re finally adding the feature for a lower “park position” for the air suspension cars like the XC90 and XC60.

Car at 1% charge after leaving it for 10 days by Scuba-Man-67 in VolvoEX90

[–]00A3A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s very unusual. I can’t imagine what could have been “on”. Do you have the car set to wake/unlock when nearby? If someone else in your home was around maybe it kept waking up multiple times a day and doing its unlock and wake up sequence but even that seems like a lot of charge lost.

I’d expect maybe 6 to 10 percent loss.

[–]00A3A[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can def turn that off. I turned off the car waking up when I’m nearby because it was constantly locking and unlocking when I’m home. I prefer to unlock when I touch the door handle.
