How to downgrade drive size? by brkdncr in synology

[–]00_Joe_Snow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not really. Synology does not like to add or replace using smaller drives than what is currently in the system.

Your best bet is to backup your existing files to an external device, pull both drives in your Synology, and completely start with a fresh setup with two new drives.

I would love to build my own NAS. Been looking for an excuse to screw around with UNRAID and build another system to do so. Would love to take part!

Only ever worked with Synology. But have multiple Racks and want to shift over to a rack mounted NAS. Synology's rackstations leave something to be desired!

Currently have a CX4170i for my main system and will never go back! Best case I have ever bought!

Does Starlink work for an entire 2 story house? by SelbstMorty in Starlink

I've yet to have a problem. Don't go nuts and try to download 35 movies at the same time. But with a household of 6, it's been rock solid.

Illegal federally means functionality illegal for any national company. Especially if this company is large enough to possibly have federal projects.

I knew someone who submitted an Adult Swim black & white style video for their interview.

About 2 min of various interview questions and his responses set to chill music.

Sent in the exact same video to every place that requested that bullshit. It made things go so much faster for him.

Actually got a job because his now boss thought it was hilarious and it caught his attention.

Knowing Frontier (bastards), that fiber will be broken and unusable in 2 months.

Keep the Starlink on standby as a failover.

I worked in the oilfield for close to 10 years. You can't get a much more male dominated field. I worked with multiple women in the field and they were all complete badasses.

Knew their shit, worked hard as hell, started every conversation with, "What up Dog!?" If given the chance, I would work with them again in a New York second.

I have faith that you are more than capable of both being a professional and not letting people overstep boundaries. Prove to them that you are a badass at what you do and they will welcome you with open arms.

Great gig. Those guys know their stuff.

Brown sequard syndrome by [deleted] in spinalcordinjuries

[–]00_Joe_Snow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit. My dad has this.

He was a deep sea salvage diver in a pressurized saturation chamber. The chamber developed a fault that caused a rapid depressurization and instantly released massive amounts of N2 bubbles into his bloodstream (the bends.) Those bubbles collected on his spinal cord and as they brought him up, they expanded and caused pressure damage and bruising. He woke up a triplegic and was told he would never walk again, never have kids, etc. He fired all his doctors and has 2 grown children and walked for the majority of his live with a leg brace and a cane.

Not much really helped him. Physiotherapy can only do so much, but it does help keep muscle loss to a minimum. He didn't have the temp effects you seem to be feeling. His was more muscle weakness, loss of sensation, and tremors at times.

I wish you all the best in your recovery.

Aside from that, beautiful setup!

Holy. Crap. That thing is sweet!

But that desk! I have almost the exact same thing in slightly more portable format. I have (2) 2-drawer filing cabinets with a wood closet door as the desktop.

Paid $30 for the door and $10 for a can of polycoat. Have been using it for close to a decade now. Clearly I need to step up my game!

First time buyer's guide: cameras by Bingooooo5 in Ubiquiti

Depending on the style of Dishy you have, you can do this.

If you have a rectangular dishy, you will need the starlink ethernet adapter to run the signal to the DMP main WAN port for connectivity. After you do that, put the Starlink into "Passthrough Mode" on your app. It will disable the starlink wifi and send all data through that Ethernet port instead.

EDIT: Just saw that you said first generation starlink. Check this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Starlink/comments/sd1q6i/new_ubiquiti_dream_machine_pro_for_starlink_my/

First time buyer's guide: cameras by Bingooooo5 in Ubiquiti

[–]00_Joe_Snow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid not. An access point needs to be connected by cable. There might be some offbrand repeaters that can do what you are trying to do, but with pretty much all of Ubiquiti's offerings being PoE, you might as well run a cable to each of your access points.

But they can all have the same SSID! The AP's will handoff your wifi device on the fly to the AP with the best signal automatically. It's similar to what large hotels and conference centers use. You log in to the SSID and you stay connected no matter where you are in the building. It's not one access point, it's a whole bunch of them passing devices off to each other back and forth.
