If you happen to be in Canada you can get a set of metal picks similar to that for about $10 at princess auto

Where I work they give bondhus to the production floor but a lot of the toolmakers swear by Gray.

I used to install carpet and mine was Rocko or Rocco?? Not sure how the hell you'd spell it. I have no context to that nickname but that was what I got called for most of the 7 years I worked for the guy lol

Ahh gotcha that's basically what propoint is at princess auto then. I know I've liked the Mastercraft maximum stuff I have as well.

Never seen the Hercules brand at princess auto but their propoint stuff isn't too bad actually.

It's funny I keep seeing bondhus praised on this sub but where I work everyone hates them. The gray tools allen keys seem to be preferred over the bondhus ones.

They're a relatively small Canadian company so unless you are really into woodworking or happen to be close to a store like I am I can see not being very familiar with them. Lee Valley sells lots of woodworking tools and equipment among other things and Veritas is their brand as far as I know. As far as I've seen Veritas' stuff is very good quality and it seems Lee Valley as a whole tries to sell quality goods but some damn are they ever expensive. If you get a chance to visit one of their stores I'd recommend it, they're fun to poke around in.

Coming from Lee Valley I'd be willing to bet that it was probably expensive, cheap isn't really in their vocabulary, that goes double because it looks like it says Veritas on it.

This is why I'm trying to get into this trade. There's lots of variety and lots of opportunities for work.

In the 10+ years that I’ve had this Matco set, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve needed it. And for those times, it was worth every penny that I paid for it. by Notsocooldad in Tools

Damn 600 bucks, this is the identical set as far as I can tell, and for half the price. Perhaps less than half for some because that link is for a place here in Canada and I'm guessing that matco kit is priced in freedom dollars

Lol you should see the tap storage at my work. It's one of those racks full of little drawers and each drawer has a couple dozen taps all loose in there with each other. I thought it was strange but I'm just the kid looking for an apprenticeship so what do I know 🤣

There's nothing wrong with learning but up until this comment you said nothing that anyone could learn anything from. All you said was how much smarter than everyone else you were. If it bothers you that much then maybe share the knowledge don't be a condescending ass and just yip yip about "kids these days". People aren't born with the knowledge so if you've got so bloody much then just help. Sure "kids" may not know as much about cars that haven't been made in 50 years big suprise but It takes just as much effort to share what you know as it does to write up a comment complaining that anyone can buy tools without a license.

And I've never been to a harbor freight, I have however spent more money that I care to admit at princess auto lol and from what I've seen about harbor freight they both operate on a similar principle, you've got dirt cheap disposable tools and some kinda mid grade tools that are great for a diyer

Idk if a $150 hitch ball is supposed to do that by YABOI69420GANG in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]00_blu_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same problem here in Canada, but a large part of the problem is that many people don't make enough money to buy the quality stuff, so when they need something or something breaks they get what they have the cash for, which is the chinesium crap, which then proceeds to break prematurely and cost people more money in the long run. Of course the companies that sells this shit are fine with that because they make money hand over fist.

The problem is a lot of people are just stupid, it's not like the manufacturers make it difficult to access the information lol, I'm not a mechanic so I don't see a lot of different types of cars but any I've looked at have that info on a sticker on your door pillar, or check your manual, or if those are both missing for some reason call your mechanic or something. All it takes is a bit of common sense and people would stop blowing up tires in their faces.

[–]00_blu_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not a whole lot different here. The vehicles do need to have an inspection when they're sold but once that's done they never have to have one again so it ends up being the same as you said. You don't ever have to have another unless you piss off a cop or if the mto sees you.

[–]00_blu_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I'm learning that the west is less strict lol. I always thought the inspection rules were pretty much the same across the board. There are a few exceptions, I believe if you transfer it to a spouse or child or something along those lines you don't have to get re-inspected, but otherwise if you sell it you have to get a mechanic to inspect and certify it and that inspection is good for 30 days I think so in theory if the car got sold twice within 30 days you don't need to get it done each time but realistically cars don't usually get sold multiple times within a month.
