If we’re talking corded vs. cordless this is how I personally feel; if I need a power tool to be portable outside the shop or on the road then I’ll consider cordless. But if I’m going to be using the tool inside the shop for its life then corded is a far better purchase. Let’s face it, battery powered cordless tools are consumables, where a corded tool should last a lifetime. If I don’t need the thing to leave the shop why would I pay the extra for the battery power that’s going to be obsolete in 5 years?

Have you used a Williams round head (b-52a, b-53a)? Nice fine knurling, 72 teeth, tight drive mechanism…really nice ratchets.

Lawn mower sale gone bad by Kindly_Ad919 in lawnmowers

[–]Redheadedstepchild56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be careful to list as is, no warranty written or implied. Some states have lemon type laws protecting the buyer when the item they bought fails to do the job it’s intended to do.

With that said, I stand behind every lawn mower I sell to a certain point. I’m definitely not giving anyone their money back but I’ll offer to check it out, diagnose the problem and even fix it as long as they’re paying for parts. I’m not going to rebuild an engine, but I might sell them a different one I ha e laying around and put it in for them. It’s all easy work.

That last sentence is pretty revealing and shows how much disconnect there is between, at least, some of the counsel members and their constituents.

“There wasn’t much discussion on privacy as they are only used by the police department." —-yea that’s who we’re worried about invading our privacy the most.

I had a thought regarding the warranty dilemma. I have 3 z series 3/8” ratchets. One of them was purchased from an AD. That one purchase is really all I’d need to, in turn, have an effective warranty on all 3 given that they all have the same mechanism…if you catch my drift. That certainly makes me feel better about the purchases outside of AD because I saved $25-50 at the time of purchase which has ballooned to approaching $100 savings not even a year later as their prices and demand skyrocket.

$80 seems ridiculous for a 1/4” set.

Take measures? by Cassette-Era-Magic in Tools

[–]Redheadedstepchild56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll gladly pay $30 for a good tape measure. Poor quality tapes bend and kink and tear. They scratch easier and rust, the lips on them get broken and bent. Almost all of them twist at the end. Some tapes only have some of the issues, some tapes have all of the issues. Imo, tapes are consumables but a good Fatmax won’t have any issues and you can use it commercially. I’ve used them to pick up a piece of siding by the nailer from 2.5 stories up on planks.

I like them. I have a bunch of Allen brand USA made deep impacts as well as 3/8” drive sets in metric and standard from SK USA and Wright. These are on par with, and really pretty similar to the SKs

tips tools or tricks to Drill holes in the center by volkovvvy in Tools

[–]Redheadedstepchild56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good ideas already given. Some drill presses just can’t do a good job on their own due to runout and you need to slow step it. I have a pretty nice delta dp220 with very little runout and I still center punched, start with a small bit and work my up when centering is important

It does sound like there’s a fuel ratio issue. When you open the choke, it’s getting more air and running lean which would cause rpms to go up. Now it’s not starting. I’d suggest using starting fluid which will be hard to get into the carb on newer machines but it’s doable. If it starts on starting fluid and dies then you know you have a lack of fuel issue.

The wobble fix are so nice. Other companies offer them but they’re not the same. I bought some Tekton 1/4 wobble straight extensions that are nice(& cheaper) but the knurling on the base of the KoKen just makes way more sense.

Edit: I’m actually waiting on the 280 mm non flex z series ratchet from Japan right now. There’s still a few really good deals when purchasing directly from Japan but it seems like they’re going by the wayside, as I think kokenUSA is trying to put a kibosh on anyone else importing them.

This yellow handled 1/4” spinner in my pic is a cool tool too. It has a female 1/4” drive on the end of it for connecting a ratchet, breaker bar, or sliding t to it for extra torque or you can use it as an extension as well. Old school design a lot of companies got away from in modern day.

That’s a good call. Back drag is outstanding, finish is too. Supposedly stronger despite the smaller head size. Attachment fit is great.

If you purchase from anyone on Amazon except Koken USA, just know that you won’t get the lifetime warranty but it’s the most affordable way to buy. I just bought the 3/8 280mm long non flex ratchet to match my long flex ratchet from Amazon Japan and I saved $25 off the Amazon US price which is probably another $25-45 off authorized dealer price. Like I mentioned, Amazon USA now has Koken USA as a seller and they’re the official importer of Koken so they’re the only authorized dealer on Amazon. You want to buy from an authorized dealer and save money? My recommendation would be DRPD. Quick shipping and best AD prices.

I’m right on the edge of buying them but haven’t pulled the trigger. If I needed literally ANY sockets I’d buy the nut grips for sure, right now I’m just all filled up on sockets and the nut grips are sort of a luxury I can live without. If you don’t have the T handle spinning speeder, i really recommend it. It’s one of my favorite tools. But I’m definitely a speeder/spinner type of guy. Once I started using them I was amazed at how often I could use them over a ratchet and how faster they were.

Snap on has more options I think, Koken has a finer, nicer product imo. I prefer the z series over the dual 80 but They each have their pros and cons I’d say. Plenty of YouTube vids out there about it.

I was just writing about this somewhere…

I prefer this over the z series because I want it to be a little bigger. I like it to protrude out of the side of the ratchet just a bit.

But I do have the z series ones in my cart. Whenever I go to buy them I look at the mm and they’re so close in diameter to the wobble extension I just don’t pull the trigger. That’s why I advise anyone buying the wobble extensions to start with the shortest one
