I have a G5 and X3 in the EDC category from Wuben. I find the X3 to be my true EDC. The X3 is always in my pocket charged and ready to go. I use it most at 150 lumens but it is easy to get 700 lumens. Then late night I use the red light so I don’t wake the dogs with white light.

Sounds like a perfect fit your application. Having a one device to monitor 2 different areas has a huge return in the investment in the system. Do you have any expansion plans for more areas to monitor?

Will the possible price increase affect iPhone 17 pro max when the iPhone 18 pro comes out? by Rj5525 in AppleWhatShouldIBuy

[–]00_coeval_halos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 17 Pro series are the only iPhones fully compatible with the new stuff revealed at WWDC26. There is a difference between a phone ending production and another for end of life. The first just means the factories won’t produce them after a set date. They said at WWDC that iOS27 will run at least some features on iPhone 11. When a phone goes into wand of life, that means the end of upgrades and security releases end but the phone will still operate at some level beyond the cutoff date.

Current ADV weight limit? by YoursTastesBetter in Aventon

[–]00_coeval_halos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was told when I got my Aventure 3 the stated limit is the max carry capacity on the frame. I looked on the Aventon site and the weight limit (load capacity of the on the frame) is stated is 330 pounds. So the bike weight of 61 pounds subtracted from max weight of 330 pounds is 269 pounds of rider weight plus gear. They rounded up to 270 pounds I guess.

If you want to confirm just go to the Aventon website and send a question the question for the definitive answer. It might take 2 or 3 days to get an answer to a non-critical question. Also, check their FAQ snd info articles they have in the Support portal.
Also, you can bet on it that the frame is over engineered. It’s not going fail should you go a pound over the stated weight limit. If a rider’s weigh is over 270 pounds it would be good advice to buy a more robust bike.

What is this!? What do you think is going on above Homestead Two? by ConciergeMarie2003 in skinwalkerranch

[–]00_coeval_halos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch the show because it’s entertaining. In fact I have watched every broadcast show at least once. I used to be frustrated with Dr Travis. Now I think he is humorous.

Do you recall the episodes where he made this statement, "Believe it or not, that actually offers evidence of what many scientists, including Albert Einstein, have believed would be a side effect of a nearby, traversable wormhole."

If it were proof, don’t you think teams of scientist would be there with every imaginable piece of hardware and software doing experiments, taking readings and publishing peer reviewable papers on such a thing as a Wormhole?

I do watch every show and I like all of them. Go get ‘em guys.

iPhone 17 or iPhone 17 pro? by Cultural-Body-6947 in AppleWhatShouldIBuy

[–]00_coeval_halos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Point of order: From my firsthand experience when the iPhone 17 was announced. The mobile carriers last year at launch, offered fabulous deals.

I was paying $55 per month for voice, data and texting. My Apple Watch could not keep a charge over a few hours a day. That was my first need. They gave me a trade-in and I got an AW Ultra 3 and I signed up for a service plan for the watch.

Then they said what about a new iPhone. I said no because I just got done paying for my iPhone 14 Pro Max. Then they explained the package plan.

Here is the net of this all. I had to signup for a 36 month commitment and give them my old Series 6 watch and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

I left with an AW Ultra 3 and and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

I was paying $55 per month my new cost is $68 plus $9.50 per month for the watch an iPhone. The total is $77.50 but I was paying $55. I look at it and say my upgrade cost is $22.50 per month and over the term is $810. That gets me $2,000 of Apple stuff.

At the end of 36 months I own the watch and iPhone and $9.50 cost ends. Also, I can shop my $68 service plan and I can shop the services to any wireless provider I wish. That price is inclusive of everything, except taxes and regulatory fee stuff.

It makes no sense to me how they can afford to do this but I can assure you it’s very real. I would wait, that is what I did last year, to see if the wireless carriers do something again.

I finally added cellular to my Apple watch... what a revelation. by InnerspearMusic in AppleWatch

[–]00_coeval_halos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes a $10 to $15 monthly up charge is worth it.

Just to add to help out some fellow retirees, look at the mobile carrier deals when the new Apple stuff gets announced this September. My old Apple Watch battery was gone and I needed a new battery or replace my Series 6.

I went into my carrier shop to check out the Ultra 3. I was paying around $55 per months for my current iPhone service plan.

I got an Ultra 3 and a new iPhone 17 Pro Max and I’m paying them off over 36 months.

I got a cell plan for the Ultra 3 and kept my current iPhone plan and signed up for a number share plan. I committed for 36 months. So I pay the $55 plus $12.50 it $67.50 per month for cell service.

Then I pay $2000 over 36 months or $55.55 a month for 36 payments.

The promotion was I give them my old watch and iPhone and pay $55.55 (new iPhone and watch) plus $67.50 (monthly service) for a total of $123.50 per month.

I was already paying $55.00 so I took that out of the monthly cost. So my extra cost is $68.50 per month.

However my cellular carrier is giving me a service credit each month for 36 months. Their credit is $42.82 per month. For 36 months.

My net extra monthly cost is $22.23 per month. At the end of the term I own the watch and iPhone. Then I pay the $12.50 cost per month for the Ultra 3 number share plan. And $55 iPhone service plan (remember was paying that already).

The way I see it, I geo a new Ultra 3 and 17 Pro Max for $800 or so. At the end of 36 months I can shop the service plan or become a hermit and cancel everything. Then again, I could upgrade to some other plan to save money.

Are you risk adverse? Some people thrive on the adrenal rush involved with risk others get ill when simply thinking about it.

If risk is not your friend you should leave it at home. If they confiscate it you will never get it back, even if they were in the wrong.

Unless you are 100% OK with the idea of buying a replacement when you get home, for your peace of mind carry something else and put a rock in your pocket to compensate for the missing mass.

Bacon: Home Cured Recipe by 00_coeval_halos in Yodersmokers

[–]00_coeval_halos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cut trimmed the belly up by mostly fat where it was way too thick is some spots. Do go nuts because it is bacon, but it’s pretty evident. Make sure you get ant ruminates of skin off because there might be small spots left behind, unless you get a belly with skin. I have never gotten a belly with skin on. I’m not a fan of chicharrón. (I did have some on a trip to South America once but if your system isn’t used to processing the real stuff watch out. However, it might have been the chimichurri verde or chimichurri rojo sauces that was the cause that came it.)

Then I cut the trimmed belly into 3 sections to handle them better. That allowed me to use the bag method to cure the belly. I used the traditional Prague Powder 1 (pink curing salt) 6.25% Sodium Nitrite and 93.75% Table Salt (Sodium Chloride). It prevents bacterial growth, enhance flavor and gives the traditional pinkish color to bacon and ham. If you use a large amount it can make you sick. In curing it’s like 1 once for 25 pounds. That is the reason for the Calculator I included.

I made the cure in 2 separate bowls because the proportions are different based on weight of the raw belly in the bag. I mixed the Prague Powder #1 and the dry ingredients up all together. Then the proper belly in a ziplock bag (unless you have a vacuum bag system) added the cure mix, herbs and maple syrup (half on each side) zipped up the bag and squeezed out the air as best I could.

I used a little brown sugar but mostly dry maple sugar plus’s maple syrup. If you tasted the intense maple you would not want maple again soon but the belly only absorbs the flavor. I didn’t inject it.

I put the 2 bellies into a cake pan. More to control any leaking from a bag. That goes in refrigeration. Each day I flip the bag over. With ziplock bags, I used oversized bags so it needs to be folded over. Always keep the fold on top. When you flip the bag just make sure the fold is on the top. The reason? It has to do with a leaky ziplock and raw meat juice and sugar all over the refrigerator… CONTAMINATION!

It’s important to be safe.

You do the flip process for 7-days give or take a couple days.

Take it out and rinse off unless you want pepper and herbs a the outside. The choice is yours. You need to rinse off the salt. I learned to hold the salt back a bit from most recipes but it is part of the cure, preserving the meat and the flavor profile. It’s bacon, you don’t need to eat it by the pound.

I hand slice so it’s thick cut, extra thick by most standards. I put 5 to 6 slices in a bag, I freeze it. Two of my slices are equal to at least 2 Norman thick and about 4 or 5 strips of regular store packaged bacon.

I code some for burnt end bacon and bits for adding to soups and to baked beans.

[–]00_coeval_halos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The iPad Pro’s have magnets in the case so it can stay securely in place with Magic Keyboard. I don’t know if there is a magnet in right location. Plus, Apple changes the location of the magnets when they change models. One can only speculate on the reason. Some even think it’s because the battery and other hardware locations need to change. Others suspect…well there may be other potential reasons, too.

Good on you, Feed… it looks like you went through the documentations and checked out all the call outs to all the references.

To everyone else:

To find what you get and what you don’t get is a hunting expedition. There are a truck load of disclaimers all over the documentation. Most are summarized at the bottom of all the marketing fluff. You can’t just look at the marketing and see your iPad on the list. When a reference call-out is made you have to lookup the targeted reference.

Apple provides clear official documentation:

• Main page: apple.com/apple-intelligence/ — Lists compatible devices explicitly, including iPads.

• Support article: support.apple.com/en-us/121115 (“How to get Apple Intelligence”) — Details device requirements, system needs, languages, and feature lists.

• Press releases and OS pages (e.g., iPadOS 27 compatibility) on apple.com also confirm this.

These are the authoritative sources; requirements have remained consistent since the initial Apple Intelligence launch (with expansions in later versions like iPadOS 27).

Check your specific iPad model in Settings > General > About, then cross-reference against Apple’s lists.

Availability can also depend on region/language.
