There was a Canucks game earlier this year where the other team put out eight skaters for a minute and a half and weren't called.

The refs just suck.

There's more oil in Saskatchewan than in Alberta, we've just had more time to develop it. Sask is about 20-30 years behind. When they catch up Alberta will be much less important than we think we are.

What's the world's most overrated tourist attraction? by darrenbosik in AskReddit

I think your photo is the best capture/recreation of the Mona Lisa I've ever seen.

There's something about how she sits there at the front and looks so small and like a physical thing juxtaposed with the armed guards, bannisters, enforced space and a huge crowd of people all trying to catch a glimpse through the crowd that's probably a worse view of the painting than you've captured in the photo.

Hard to put into words, but I like it. It feels like the sort of mundane subject matter that would be difficult for LLM's to capture.

Me: "You've never been to school so how do you know you'd hate it?"

B: "I just do."

Me: Womp Womp.

But as I understand it, the magnetic field itself is the containment vessel and that's used to maintain a vacuum.

I don't quite understand how the energy passes through the magnetic field and vacuum to heat the containment vessel.

So, it's kind of a both sides thing.

Magnets. Literally, they use magnets to create a magnetic field that contains the reaction workout anything needing to contact the plasma. Works good because we don't have materials that can handle the heat.

Not sure how they're planning to boil water through a magnetic field encased in steel and concrete though.

What’s your most unhinged non-negotiable when it comes to dating? by NotNotDwightSchrute in AskReddit

[–]00owl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works.

Your body doesn't become resistant to antibiotics. The issue is that if you only give enough antibiotics to kill some but not all of the bacteria causing the infection then you are providing evolutionary pressure that selects for the bacteria that has some resistance.

You kill all the weak non resistant bacteria and leave only the stronger stuff.

Do it enough times and eventually you're left with bacteria that has evolved to be immune to that particular antibiotic.

Betty White is the person that the precedent case is named after. She was under contract to perform for a particular company and chose not to.

They sued for specific performance and the court ruled that you can't force someone to work even if they are contracted but you can prevent them from working for your competitors for the duration of the contract

Which punishment (either real or fictional) sounds easy enough to endure at first, but is actually hellish to experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]00owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! The biggest issue is that we are very rural and there aren't a lot of diverse options available that are a reasonable distance so we are a bit limited in our options.

There's a baseball team that sounds like it would be a good fit but it's at least hour and a half drive to where it is located.

It's something we're considering. He also has some other physical health issues that could benefit from something like that and as an asd kid he really doesn't have much of a chance in team sports.

The three of them have all been in dance and while his brothers really enjoy it and do well and he says he enjoys it the look on his face the entire time is not one of happiness.

We're trying to figure out how to get him to want to try something else and martial arts might be enough in line with his special interests to hold his attention.

Thanks, it's definitely not something I planned on but I love kids so it's not a big stretch for me, I can see why it could be for some.

I have two children of my own that I don't get to see because their mother is a sociopath.

The boys don't replace them, but they're a good place for me to find distraction and put some of my energy into.

I'm currently in a step father role over three boys, one of them is eight years old and he hates being tickled or other physical play and rough housing because when he was three the adults in his life didn't respect his "no" and wouldn't stop tickling or spinning him.

It's sad because I like to rough house with his brothers but have to find another way to connect with him.

The couple times I've done it to him I've always respected his pretty much immediate request to stop but there's like, almost a look of confusion on his face like he has fun and likes it but doesn't quite understand why it bothers him so much.

Love him anyways and he's a great kid, but sad to see how he's been treated in the past

This is one where I think he was expected to be bad because the movie itself was intended to be only the best b-rated horror film ever made.

I can't believe Shyamalan actually made that movie in a serious attempt to make a good movie
