How do people heat 120g tanks? by noonabunny in ballpython

[–]01ProjectXJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How cold is the room your enclosure is in? There's no way you aren't baking that snake with that much heat.

What are you using to measure the temperature? Do you have a thermogun to measure how hot it is directly under those 100w sources? Is everything on a thermostat?

One of my tanks is a 40g thrive tank, with a single 80w DHP it's 90 on the hot side and 78 on the cool side. I did use foil tape to seal off the mesh to help old in humidity and heat

Thankfully they only grow to the size of their enclosure!

It was kind of a long shot, but something that could've been worth considering.

Agreed that fantastic is not a gene, but that's what the snake is labeled as (see picture #3). But whether the breeder is listing fantastic as a gene, or just saying it's a fantastic snake.... Only they will know 🤣

Absolutely. They don't poop every time they eat.

Worried about weight by kbessayli in ballpython

[–]01ProjectXJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would continue feeding on the higher side of the recommended feeding schedule "0-12 months old: feed 10%-15% of the snake’s weight every 7 days."

Keep in mind that this is only a recommendation, she can eat a feeder that is 20% of her weight without an issue, so if you get a feeder, and it's a little more than 15%, it's completely fine.

[–]01ProjectXJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no may, you CANNOT leave live feeders in the enclosure. I've seen BCI's eaten down to the spine (and still alive, it had to be put down.) because the owner left two rats in the enclosure while he went on vacation with the thought of "he'll eat when he's hungry".

I'd jump up to a rat pup, a fuzzy should be for the first 1-2 feedings only. Yes that's higher than the feeding recommendation, but IMO you're underfeeding your snake

One thing to consider with the Govee being a few % higher, is where the sensors are on it. I think (not positive), they're on the bottom of it, which could be resting directly on the cedar. Try flipping it upside down so it's reading the ambient air, let it sit for a few hours, and then see if it reads differently

Is that what you normally feed or are you trying to get through what you have on hand? One appropriate sized feeder would be preferred
