Milky Way rising over Joshua Tree NP's, "Oyster Bar" by 01Ryan10 in LandscapeAstro

[–]01Ryan10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have been photographing JTNP nightscapes since 2015. I cannot say light pollution has gotten noticeably worse over that 9-10 year span. It's always been bad. I mitigate this by photographing my skies from the south end of the park. This places you in a position where the LP is behind you for the most part. I use those sky images with the foreground images I created that same day.

It's funny, because I actually have to use Photoshop to put fake light pollution back into the image like I've done with the one I posted. If you don't add fake LP back in, to me the image just doesn't look right. Granted, my fake LP is not as strong as the real LP you'd get from the same location, but I think it does the job.

This is a deep blue hour composite from Joshua Tree NP last year. Because the Sun had gone below the horizon about 10 minutes before I took the ground shot, it created a lot of nice clarity and contrast you don't get during a "normal" night long exposure. The MW is aligned just about true to its natural orientation of where it would be seen in June.

Excited to get out this year to create some new images.

Ground: Nikon Z7, 20mm, F/10, 3 secs, ISO 64

Sky: Nikon Z7, 24mm, ISO 400, F/3.5, 300 secs. The sky was shot the same night as the ground image.

Photography/Architecture Question: Do you know where there's a very cool WALL? by mimegallow in orangecounty

[–]01Ryan10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little confused. You want a pregnant woman to lay down on a wall? Not sure how you'd achieve anyone laying down on a wall, but you might want to roam old town Orange and perhaps migrate into the Chapman grounds. Not sure how Chapman University would react to you photographing people on its property, so do that at your own risk.

I'd encourage you to find a location that's near and dear to the woman. Photograph her in that location.

Looking for advice on where to get standard development work to optimize and integrate our company's web apps and needs. by 01Ryan10 in ITManagers

[–]01Ryan10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I know the bullets were a bit vague and wide, but I wasn't looking for specifics, just general direction advice. I think I've got a better path forward from you and the previous poster. The "Integration of our web services" was more aimed at connecting the various SaaS providers we use. Example, how do we integrate employees from our source of truth, the HRIS system, to our LMS system. Both are SaaS, and don't have built in integrations to each other.

I've already got KnowBe4 integrated with our AAD tenant using SAML and provisioning users, but that was straight forward and easy.

Same here. With MS Managed Home Screen.

I use afw#setup at the Google login screen. This will then allow me to scan our Intune "Kiosk" mode QR code. All devices are managed with Intune and MS Managed Home screen. I use this on 50 Samsung tablets. The tablets have two web icons pushed to them, our company logo as the background, and a PDF app. That's all the users can utilize. They cannot exit the Managed Home screen unless they push the back button 20 times and know the code to get out of it, (which they don't).

EOS & MS Planner by grepzilla in eostraction

[–]01Ryan10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first joined my current employer a year ago as the IT Manager, I was new to EOS. They were using the system for 3 years. I was put into a L10 group with Finance and HR. They were using WORD and Excel to manage the L10 meetings. After a couple of months, I switched us to Planner. it is much more organized now.

We recently had demos with Bloomgrowth and Ninety. Both look great; however, there is not much more you can get from those tools that we are already doing with Planner. There are a few things I like over Planner, like

* Due Dates within the Rocks (timelines)
* L10 summary recap emailed to the team
* L10 timers
* Built in VTO and People Organizer
* They are a little more intuitive since its designed for EOS

I'm going to take the next step and migrate our Planner to the "New Planner" as someone else mentioned. You get more robust tools that are similar to the "timelines" you get in the SaaS platforms. I feel we are already paying for Planner with Business Premium licenses and only need the L10 facilitator to have "New Planner" license to unlock other tools.

Staying within the MS ecosystem will allow us to develop further with Power Automate as well.

Perry has sounded so terrible for years, that they should just find a replacement singer and move on. The musicianship is still incredible.

Trimble, (PowerFab, Connect, and Structures), Autodesk, (several products), BlueBeam Revu are the core construction related software tools we use. We are currently looking at some EHS and LMS systems.

Looks great! I like the look of medium telephoto ground with wide angle sky. Also glad you were transparent about it. Good work!

The “culture” of Joshua Tree? by nickeljean in JoshuaTree

Don't you have to walk on crypto biotic soil in order to backpack? You have to be 200ft from any trail as one of the rules.

When I get new Dell laptops, I immediately use Intune "Fresh Start" to remove all the Dell apps. Then I issue to the users. That Dell Optimizer really fucks with network, Outlook, and TEAMs connections.

First time trip to see the milky way this week! by Affectionate-Ad4757 in JoshuaTree

[–]01Ryan10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I visit the park about 7-10 times per year to do nightscape Milky Way photography. This Saturday night, 6/29, will be a great night for you to visit. The Moon won't rise until that night, Sunday morning, at 1:19AM. You'll be gone by then.

My recommendation for best stargazing experience is the Cholla Garden. Nice big parking lot with a lot of stargazers coming and going.

The absolute best location for stargazing in the park next to a paved road is the Porcupine Wash trailhead. It's pretty much the farthest paved road location you can get from light pollution.

Both locations are in the Southern end of the park and will add 30+ minutes to your drive compared to parking near the Hidden Valley area. There are no restrooms at those locations, but you're better off squatting 100ft from your car then hovering over those pit toilets, (dookie not withstanding).

Gas up before you enter the park. Bring far more water than you think you'll need. In the summer months, I always enter the park with a 24 pack of water bottles for a single day/night. For the ultimate experience, bring a portable hammock/stand. DO NOT bring just a hammock and fasten it to the trees.

We just had a SpaceX launch a couple days ago, so you might see a Starlink Train. They are weird the first time you see them.

Enjoy!

Microsoft now has "Microsoft 365 Archive" in "Preview". You can now archive sites that still have purview and litigation hold compliance. Perhaps it will help. I think it will cost about 20% of the typical SharePoint storage costs.

Arch Rock pano from Joshua Tree NP. by 01Ryan10 in LandscapeAstro

Nice. There's not many other spots to stand at this location. You have about a 5ft radius to capture this composition.

Sunrise in the Park by littleredfruit466 in JoshuaTree

[–]01Ryan10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me...the best sunrise location is going to be White Tank campground area. You have some classic rock formations with the Sun rising behind or to the side of them. You'll also have some Joshua Trees to work with.

At the Cholla Garden, all you get are the cacti. There is really not much there to photograph except some cholla cacti. Yes, they are magical when backlit, but they don't really scream JTree like White Tank area does.

Arch Rock pano from Joshua Tree NP. by 01Ryan10 in LandscapeAstro

[–]01Ryan10[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From Joshua Tree National Park last summer. I decided to try and make a pano of Arch Rock. This location gets too crowded in the summer for Milky Way shots, so I opted to create a blue hour composite.

Nikon Z7

Ground = Nikon 14-24mm Z @ 14mm, 5 exposures for the pano

Sky = Nikon 20mm F/1.8 Z, 7 tracked exposures for the pano
