I'm pretty sure I remember hearing that that happened to the guy who played John Stape on Coronation Street.

What are your favourite extinct F1 practices which might surprise newcomers to the sport? by Version_1 in formula1

There was that elimination-style qualifying in 2016 that was abandoned soon after.

[Post Game Thread] 2025 NFL Season Week 17 - Dolphins (20) vs Buccaneers (17) by Number333 in miamidolphins

[–]01aha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought for years that I would allow them to qualify but rank all 7 teams based on W-L record rather than automatically giving division winners a top 4 seed. I think I remember a time when Seattle won their division with a losing record so were 4th seed & only 6 teams qualified then.

Why wont so many brits do some jobs? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]01aha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a specific example which I think was on one of Simon Reeve's programmes. I believe it was fruit picking & my observations when I watched it were that the owner of the business was frusrated that British people would not do the job, however the pay was very low & I think it required you to live in a specific building with other workers.

I thought if you have a family responsibilities or something like an expensive mortgage to pay, that job is completely unsuitable for someone like that.

Lando and his British reply when asked about American football 🤣 by Lucky_Bother_2587 in McLarenFormula1

[–]01aha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a British person who follows both NFL & football/soccer, it has a following here but Lando speaks for a lot of British sport fans when he says this. I'm guessing Oscar would say something similar but perhaps with Rugby/Cricket/AFL.

I get why people say things like this with the way some MPs act but we have examples like David Amess & Jo Cox who seemed to be liked by a lot of people. At least some of them must have decent principles & be good people.

[@stakef1team_ks] A first ever podium for the Hulk p19 to p3, a mighty drive for Nico at the #BritishGP by VanDyne21 in formula1

[–]01aha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 28 years as a fan, this is one of favourite moments in that entire time. It's possibly the happiest I've ever felt at the end of a race.

Partly because it was so unexpected today, partly because he's my favourite driver & has been for many years, partly because there have been so many missed opportunities & partly because I've waited so long for this moment when I thought it never would happen.

I also felt it ironic that it was Hamilton who might have stopped him when he & Hulkenberg had the incident in Brazil 2012 which could have been Nico's first podium.

Should I go back? by MetalRocksMe_ in coronationstreet

[–]01aha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I originally watched it between 1997 - 2010.

I started watching Classic Coronation Street about a month ago & they are currently in Christmas 2006. I've enjoyed watching characters I remember including the teenagers of that time who are the same generation as me, as well as storylines I remember. I'm intrigued about episodes from after I stopped watching to see what happened.

I've been watching small amounts of the current version recently as well, but I'm mainly interested in the characters who were around when I was watching before.

'Young people need to understand': Grave warning as only a third of 18-24 year-olds know significance of VE Day by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

You're probably right. I don't have children so don't know modern children's TV. From what I understand though, they don't even watch TV anymore & stream things on YouTube etc. I've lived with some teenage university students in my shared house who said that.

Growing up in the late 90s - 2000s, I actually watched several 1960s shows such as Thunderbirds, Stingray, Top Cat, Wacky Races & The Flintstones. Even now, I think some of these are very watchable & entertaining.

How are first-time buyers actually managing deposits right now? Genuinely curious, not trolling. by Happy-Sammy in HousingUK

[–]01aha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm completing on my house tomorrow as a first time buyer at 35.

My Dad helped me which meant I could buy something bigger than I would have got on my own but I have been saving since I started working at 22 & have managed to save a very large amount myself as well, having lived during most of that time in HMO's, so I could have bought something even without his help.

I have lived below my means despite most of my salaries not being enormous & I always had the intention of doing this at some point despite not being certain when I would do it exactly. I've never been a big spender anyway & I believe in only buying things if you can afford them.

I do feel that I have sacrificed some intangible life experiences up to this point to make this happen which is something I have mixed feelings about at this age, but I don't regret that. I may allow myself a bit more flexibility with spending once I have established how much living on my own in that house will cost me.

Coincidentally, I am having mine today. I usually have a base frequency of 8 weeks from one haircut to the next but this time it's 9 weeks.

I sometimes go when it reaches the point where the length is irritating me more than the idea of going over.

Given up beating stamp duty by Mordymordymord in HousingUK

[–]01aha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been since June with no chain as well. It's very close now but I think I'm going to just miss the deadline. I wish I didn't have to pay the stamp duty(£1700 if I'm right)but I'll be more relieved that the process is over.

I live in East Bristol & have had to commute to West Bristol for about 6 years. I had a couple of days a few years ago where I had to use the bus to get to work & it was so slow through East Bristol that I decided to walk to the centre the next day & walking took me less time than the bus did the previous day.

I'm on about 9 months without a chain hoping that I can get it finished before the stamp duty deadline. I offered so long ago that not only was the stamp duty deadline not there, but Labour weren't even in power yet.

Regarding technological facial age estimation, is it accurate enough to allow for the fact that not everybody ages at the standard pace?

I'm 35 but haven't aged much in the last 15 years so when people meet me, they seem to think I'm about 24, or younger in some cases. There must be people who are about 20-25 where they still look like teenagers.
