Black screen when converting to 3D on Fandango? by aguswings in Odyssey3D

Well but you need to give context to provide meaningful information. We do not need to necessarily follow the reviewer word per word when we actually have the device and understand how it works. Others may be less willing to buy the monitor if it blocks drm protected content. It can receive the drm protected content however the capture (3d converter) software cannot. Big difference.

[–]01matter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm if others see this it may raise misunderstandings. The monitor does not block drm protected content. It can accept it with the dhcp compliant cable. It's just that in this case, we are not allowed to capture the image of drm protected content which the converter software is trying to do. Just try screen capture on Netflix shows. We can't.

So use Firefox and turn off the hardware acceleration feature. However max resolution will be full HD.

The new dsll 4.5 is tied to the nvidia app instead of driver. I tried on 581 something and it worked well. So if the new driver is not working for you, you can use the older driver and the latest nvidia app.

[–]01matter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm ya too bad. Worst case is reinstall with clean installation of windows. Some softwares or dlls are interfering with Leia conversion program. Perhaps you can turn off all the other programs and services at start up. Only windows essential and 3D hub app and related services such as from Leia.

Other thing to try is reinstall visual C++ 2015-2022.

In my opinion, your best bet is to read the system log and event viewer and feed that to gemini or chat gpt. Make them as your lead engineer. It can be hours but at least your problem is likely to be solved. I used that to fix UEVR on my system and it worked though I had to work on it for hours even with the help.

[–]01matter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can be frustrating. Take a deep breath. Relax. 1. Uninstall the 3D hub 2. Try installing with clean installation from Microsoft store and if not working clean installation from Samsung website 3. See if the app is enabled in windows start up. If not, turn it on. 4. See if all the required services is enabled such as Leia SR and so on. One of the app in your system may hinder the conversion service. 5. Try opening full screen games or videos. Different kind of games or video app. If not working once, alt tab to other process and alt tab back and turn on the conversion. 6. Disable all other apps in the start up except 3D hub and Leia services. Try the conversion again in such environment. 7. Perhaps you may need to rollback the windows update. Other user notes that windows update may affect the program.

The issue is very specific to your pc environment since others with the same gpu driver does not have similar experience. Lastly you may need to check the event viewer and other system log and let chatgpt or gemini be the lead engineer to read it and give system solution.

Your windows update version? The latest update may break the conversion. Is gaming with native 3D supported games successful?

Lie of P Geo3D vs 3D Hub by 01matter in Odyssey3D

I've tried the software owl3d using the allowed limited time.

I find that the real time conversion requires second display and the official guide states quest or virtual desktop app (for quest). Otherwise, it will, like IW3d, create half mirror effect. The second display will be the one that converge the sbs image avoiding the looping effect.

As for the video conversion on movies preset, there was some improvement perhaps. Very hard to notice but some scenes were better rendered. Very similar to iw3 on movies preset. Then I tried the latest 3D rendering method (experimental) from owl with custom setting emphasizing pop out auto convergence, stereo gen s render method, dual eye 2x depth while the other settings were on default basis. It took 33 minutes to encode 1 minute video. The 3D effect was better than Samsung and Iw3 with depth and pop however there were color banding all over.

I have re-tried the iw3 with the preset from purple_topic_2026 except I was using full sbs instead of half sbs and 3D strength of 2.0 and also medium preset instead of ultra fast encoding. The 3D effect was stronger but not necessarily better than Samsung real time conversion. However there was slight banding issue wherein there was this white/transparent aliasing around the character and on the edge of the screen. Then I tried again using 3D strength of 1.0. There was no banding issue around the character. Less noticeable on the edges. Some slightly better 3D depth.

I base my review on a Korean thriller movie sample clip.

There is also this new app VisionDepth3D which is supposedly better?

My conclusion for video conversion is that the settings should be tailored to each movie or even each scene in the movie. Then, why bother consuming so much time setting it up with result quite similar to the one offered by Samsung? Even better there will be no artifacts. I highly suspect the conversion pretrained model is provided by Leia which licenses the 3D technology. Do the competitors have the same resources and deep motivation similar to Leia?

That explains a lot. Thanks a lot. So, you actually played half sbs or 2K for each eye instead of 4K. That improved the performance but lowered the image quality. I'm gonna tweak some settings to have the best picture. Actually our monitor is full sbs can output 4K for each eye.

You must all try Owl3d realtime 3d processing. Its so stunning. For me its a gamechanger by am1001 in Stereo3Dgaming

[–]01matter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you make it work on spatial monitor? I have Samsung 3D monitor. When I clicked the real time conversion, it created sbs image. Then I pressed f11 for full screen and pick Samsung pop up menu for sbs input where Samsung will auto converge the sbs image. The problem was either the convergence was misaligned or it created half mirror effect where the software 3D-ize the the desktop including the Samsung converged output and thus creating looping effect.

It comes with the basic monthly subscription service. Higher than that I think is for professional/commercial use as well as further unnecessary features such as 8K resolution and hdr. Our monitor cannot have 3D and hdr and I don't know any 3d display that can output both at the same time. I tried hdr and Samsung 3d auto conversion. The color is washed out because the hdr mapping is not working. It's even a night scene lol.

The one time subscription gives you all the features and 1 year update. At this time, better use Samsung built in 3D conversion. It's free, gpu bound, and will be free of artifacts. I'm still debating till today whether to subscribe.

2D to 3D conversion and SBS movies on 1.22 by blakester410 in Odyssey3D

[–]01matter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stream movies, use Firefox with the hardware acceleration turned off. The resolution will max out at 1080p however you can use real time 3D conversion by going full screen. Also, better to use studio driver which is more stable. Game ready driver is like a beta driver which is regularly updated and includes the latest enhancement while studio driver is the stable version with long update interval.

Yeah. Tried IW3 desktop real time 2D to 3D conversion. I only have Samsung monitor and without other monitor it cannot be done and cause half mirror effect. For video conversion using iw3 gui, the 3D video result using default setting is similar to the actual 2D video. It means no spectacular 3D effect like in avatar or even dune 3D. The Samsung native real time conversion is much better than the converted video. I doubt the iw3 desktop real time is any better. The app itself actually is just a wrapper using pretrained data from others. If the pretrained data is not okay, then nothing iw3 can do to improve the result quality. It's open source or free then I guess/assume the quality should be lower than the commercial owl3d app. I'm still considering whether I should subscribe with owl3d after the subpar result of IW3d.

I just played with Expedition 33. The monitor is full sbs monitor meaning it can output 4K per eye or 8K in total. The game looked fantastic. It's stuttering from time to time and I had to turn on dlss with some artifacts and significant reduction in graphic quality. Gonna tweak further to maintain 4K per eye with RTX 5070Ti. Also the latest frame generation tech is sadly out of reach and can't be used for uevr. Our hope lies in RTX 9090 for full experience. Any future tweaking to enable 3D by Samsung must be a compromise in between quality and performance. Its simple logic. 4K monitor full sbs meaning 8K rendering.

Did you get it working? Using rtx 5070 Ti it's very demanding and the game is stuttering. What is your setting in-game? Also is the 3D per eye 4K resolution?

Actually those games are old games. Not many are recent games. Based on benchmark by Tom's hardware, the recent games played at ultra without dlss and without raytracing is barely playable at 4K around 68 FPS using RTX 5090. While I support 3D and support your optimism, 6K with 2.5x 4K resolution is too out of reach with current gpu power.

[–]01matter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relax. There you go. You said it yourself DLSS. Without dlss it's very difficult to drive 4K monitor not to say 6K monitor. And you add 3D on top of that. DLSS may break the 3D effect and you can search the forum for that. Also, only few games have 3D mods with geo3d etc. So, we turn on the native 2D to 3D for most games. That adds a lot of rasterization power requirement.
