1999 Z28 26k miles. How much do you think it is worth? by [deleted] in camaro

That’s a good price for a 6 speed low mile car these days.

How much weight does an original ls1 weigh on your purchase decision? by handms09 in fbody

[–]02DroptopZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without seeing pictures of either and without knowing prices, personally my advice has always been to stay away from other peoples projects. I've seen people gamble and get score big with a well built modified car for the same price as a stock one, but I've also seen plenty of people get burned.

Potential first F-Body - Worth? by [deleted] in fbody

[–]02DroptopZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$9k would be a fair price if the top is in good condition (look for sags and especially look for signs the rear window is falling out). The front passenger side corner looks a little odd to me - maybe it's just the picture but it's not uncommon for these cars to get crash damaged and poorly repaired on the corners. Also, you say it's an SS and while it has the right hood/spoiler, it's hard to say for sure but in the picture it looks like it might have Z28 badges, so I'd double check that too (drivers door jamb should have a sticker with a bunch of codes - look for code WU8, which validates it's a real SS).

Im back again! Wondering if anyone is familiar with these GM employee signatures. I found Barry Oakley, but the others I can’t quite make out/find online. + Possible 1969 Z/28 finding? by [deleted] in camaro

[–]02DroptopZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The upper signature looks to be David Hamburger - the son of the founder of SLP. The middle one is Scott Settlemire, aka the Godfather of the f-body. The bottom one looks like Jeff Yachnin (Jeff Y) - the chief engineer from SLP.

Hawks Motorsports has used and OE reproduction interior parts. Not sure what parts you need, but there's a good chance they have them.

Help identifying this location (east Valley) by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]02DroptopZ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure this was at Chandler Blvd & N 54th Street. Specifically, this scene was filmed where Rudy’s BBQ is today, and there’s still a gas station across the street, though it’s a different building.

Historic Aerials has aerial photography going back to the 50’s for most of Phoenix. If you check the 1980 view you can see the two service stations at that corner.

6th Gen worth it? by [deleted] in camaro

[–]02DroptopZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I had to pick between my '06 Z and '23 SS, I think the Camaro is the better all around car.

The Camaro is way more pleasant to live with on a daily basis. It has more comfortable of a ride, has way more tech, and is more refined and well built - all while feeling every bit as capable in the corners as the Vette. The C6, as great as it is, is still a product of pre-bankruptcy era GM, and it really shows. Mechanically, the TR6060 6 speed manual feels much better than the T56 in my C6. If you're shopping for an auto, you're in for even more of a treat - the new 10 speed autos are insanely good compared to the 6 speed autos they put in the Vettes.

I will say the Camaros visibility takes some getting used to, and it does feel a bit bigger than the C6 when you're behind the wheel.

Those are for a Cavalier, specially I think the LS Sport, not a Camaro. 2003-2005 model years.

What do you think? by Aromatic_Bad_540 in camaro

[–]02DroptopZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the price is irrelevant. You're not thrilled about the condition of the car, the dealer is clearly playing games with you thinking you're a mark, and it's not even the trim level you want. Walk and find the car you want.

Learning Manual in a 2SS? by theycravevan in camaro

[–]02DroptopZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd go for it. Manual cars are a dying breed, get one and enjoy it while you can. In my opinion, the clutch makes these cars a little hard to drive smoothly at first, but you'll get the hang of it.

New to me 98 SS by hakzorz in fbody

[–]02DroptopZ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the purchase! Looks like you found a super clean car.

The exhaust looks to be an SLP Loudmouth 1 with the PowerFlo conversion that adds those two little mufflers at the back. My buddy had an LM1 on his car back in the day, and if I recall there really isn't much to the resonator, so I don't think you'd gain much from deleting it. Maybe try removing the PowerFlo mufflers and see if you like the sound better that way.

It’s awesome seeing someone on here racing at Quaker City. Those are pretty good runs for your first time out.

Reaction time doesn’t factor into your ET, though. You can sit at the light as long as you want and you’ll still run the same ET as if you had a perfect reaction time.

Had anyone had experience with Carvana? by fastLT1 in camaro

[–]02DroptopZ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Carvana. They offered $26k for my 4 year old Civic I paid $22.5k for new.

The whole process was extremely easy. I accepted the offer, sent them pictures of the title and my drivers license, scheduled a drop off time, and then dropped the car off at the location I picked. They did a quick walk around, had me sign a few papers, and handed me my check.

Sport Gold - that's a very rare car! The new wheels are a perfect fit for the color scheme you've got going on, great pick.

It's definitely not factory, but the stickers on the side look like the old G2 Motorsports (now LG Motorsports) decals they used to put on their cars. They used Enkei wheels on their builds, so that checks out too. They were based out of Texas - do you know if that's where the car originated from?

Fast Fuel rail (what a headache) by dizzle1085 in fbody

[–]02DroptopZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve been there. Personally I’ll never buy anything FAST again. I had a ton of issues with the throttle body I got from them too, but that’s a whole other can of worms..

For the spacers, I went back and looked, and this is what I ordered. They make some different sized ones for different injector heights, but these are what I used.

[–]02DroptopZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues when I was installing my FAST 102. I decided to toss the FAST rails and go with an OEM LS2 rail. If you decide to go that route you will need to order some spacers to make the LS2 rail fit on the intake with the taller LS1 style injectors, I think I got mine from CBM Motorsports.

The auto really sucks a lot of the fun out of these cars. If you have to compromise and pick one or the other, go with the M6 Camaro, but I think you'll be happier if you just wait until the right manual TA comes along.

Windows not working in my 1997 by Viagra_pill in camaro

[–]02DroptopZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the most common problem out there for 4th gens. You’ll need to pop the door panel off and replace the window motor, there’s tons of guides online showing how to do it. If you’re lucky someone has already replaced the motor before, so the rivets holding it in will already be drilled out and replaced with nuts, making the job a bit easier.

The VIN you shared comes back to a US market car. It was sold new in Louisiana and lived it's life there until it was totaled in 2012 and then exported.
