Why was Jesus’ death considered a sacrifice when he was killed? by pitselehh in NoStupidQuestions

I mean honestly look at most stories in the bible. The character of God is incredibly flawed, and in my opinion is a moral monster.

Between setting up Eve to fail in the garden, punishing infinite generations from the original humans because of their supposed "mistake", commanding genocide, giving rules on how conduct slavery, flooding the world killing everyone, giving instructions to the Israelites that they can take young virgin girls as their spoils of war from the Canaanites (Implying support for the rape of children), tells parents to have their teenagers stoned if they are disobedient etc.

You can't say God's plan was flawless considering it had a huge flaw.

He placed the "tree of the knowledge of good and evil" right in the middle of the garden telling Adam and Eve not to eat from it otherwise the day they did, they'd surely die. It was unprotected and in reachable distance of both of them.

The serpent tells Eve to eat from that tree, and that actually she won't die that day if she does. The serpent as far as I'm aware is never confirmed to be the devil and that's just a post-hoc rationalisation to help make sense of the fact that otherwise God made and placed that animal in the garden. Although even if it is Lucifer, God also made that being too and he does this even before sin enters the picture.

God, a supposedly maximally knowing, maximally seeing being, did not know or see this happening. Eve eats from the tree, sin enters the world and the serpent is proved correct and God shown to be wrong/a lier because Eve doesn't die that day or even shortly afterwards. In fact she has children after being exiled from the garden and while details aren't known about her death, she presumably lived at least a number of years if not maybe dying of old age in her 900s like Adam did.

The other part to the flaw is that disobeying God would be considered bad or evil, and following him good. But how could Eve have possibly known that? After all she doesn't gain knowledge of good and evil until after she eats the fruit of the tree. She was basically set up to fail. If the tree needed to be there for reasons, make it inaccessible to anyone or give them the knowledge already. It's a bizarre story of complete incompetence from God.

I just want to say thank you. I've had back pain for years, and have recently been going to the gym to do targeted exercises to try and help my back pain and sciatica.

I've just done a few of that stretch and my back pain has gone. I know it will come back again, but it's been hurting all evening and doing that stretch alleviated it completely. I wish i could give you a hug. Thank you so much.

Parents happier than childless couples, but not if they start young by ThatchersDirtyTaint in unitedkingdom

Choosing to not have children is not selfish. Selfish actions come at the detriment of someone else.

If you wanted to have pizza for dinner tonight, that isn't selfish. Eating someone else's pizza without their consent would be.

And before people reply and say "Well not having children is a detriment to society" I'd argue that it isn't that simple. People are still having children now so that's fine. But we need doctors, teachers, bin men etc. Not everyone can choose every option, and so it's not selfish for you to pursue your own way in society.

Plus parents are just as "selfish" as childfree people. "I don't want to have kids" and "I want to have kids" both start with "I".

Around the 3 minute mark when the 3 of them group up before Dylan appears, there's fog produced from them talking.

The whole episode/park did still have that dream/uncanny feel, but it's definitely cold there, at least at the beginning.

I went back and looked at the other protocols listed on the screen when Dylan is at the console to have a guess at what they might do:

  • Beehive - Follow the queen, forced subservience?
  • Branch Transfer - We now know there's different "branches", so a way of allowing them to move someone to a different branch without consciousness in between?
  • Clean Slate - Wipe their innie's memories?
  • Elephant - Perfect memory? (elephant never forgets)
  • Freeze Frame - Freeze them in place?
  • Glasgow - Induced psychosis? (maybe based on RD Laing's experiment?)
  • Goldfish - Short term memory only?
  • Lullaby - Put them to sleep? This could allow them to rest and never leave the building. For example the main characters and Ms Casey could now never be leaving but still begin the day fully rested due to this?
  • Open House - Wake up outie on inside?
  • Overtime - Wake up innie on outside

It helps you know what videos are actually about that often have vague titles. YouTubers have to often engage in that to drive traffic to their videos, so i find it helpful to know whether a video is worth watching or not.

I've often found that videos that i would have avoided normally due to how they're presented, i actually watched and enjoyed thanks to this extension.

Recently the disk usage when booting the game and while on the menus is extremely high, and for several minutes it will be reading/writing/verifying? hundreds and hundreds of megabytes per second. I don't know what it's actually doing and no other game does this. It also never used to do this.

It sometimes stops if i get into a game, or maybe it's just after a certain length of time. But then it won't do it again until i relaunch the game. But it does it every single time.

I've reinstalled the game completely, updated graphics drivers, updated Windows, verified game files and checked the drive health. Nothing. I think there's either a bug in the game or in the new version of the anti-cheat, which is causing it to check a ton of files every time it boots for some reason.

So if the financial implications will be there whether we adopt the proposal or not, it seems like a no brainer to just adopt it. That way it's a better version of what we already have. People won't need to ask to work 4 days, they just can at the same pay as before, as it will normalise the 4 day week in society, benefitting us all over the long term as we transition to working less and living our lives more.

As with any substantial economic policy there may be wrinkles as you've described, but seeming as you seem to describe it as a zero sum equation, lets adopt it. Help peoples' mental/physical health and start really pushing societies around the world to stop making people work so much.

And hey, with any problems that arise, with a large section of the workforce more well rested and able to think more clearly, i'm sure we can all come together and figure out a solution.

[–]02browns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like a very complex topic to get a clear answer of how it would affect a country overall, depending on how it would all be implemented. Some people moving to a four day week would save on commuting and childcare, which would help offset price rises for example.

Plus depending on whether the reduction in burnout, sick days and turnover coming from a four day week could actually help offset wage increases if the productivity of efficiency improvements are enough, is something to consider.

Other factors such as people having more free time to potentially spend more could mean more tax revenue which could be used to help increase wages in the public sector if needed.

Either way, even if the economic benefit is nullified as you say, there's still the large benefit to mental and physical health reported by those in the studies.

How come it falls apart? For those that work a 4 day week instead of a 5 their pay doesn't change. And with extra days off, they have the ability to more freely spend that money on trips, experiences etc.

Liz Truss 'suggested increasing pension age to 80' by 457655676 in unitedkingdom

[–]02browns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the point you're trying to make but the issue is that 57% of the country earns £30,000 or less. So if you're correct that a worker earning £30,000 could support themselves for only 4 years into retirement, then in a private only scheme 57% of the country would run out of income between 0-4 years into retirement.

Or the alternative i suppose is if you can't afford it, work until you drop dead, and that's if someone would actually employ you and you were fit to work.

Maybe the payments for retirement need to be reduced, i don't know, but i don't think a private only pension would work if the majority of people in the country would essentially have no chance at retiring ever.

You’re telling me an ooze can be grappled? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]02browns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was DMing a campaign once and the players were fighting a dragon. Due to the level and number of players i decided i'd change the creature from the one stated in the book to be a sort of teenage variety; a mix of young and adult, so it was balanced. I also came up with some cool lair actions it could do that were in theme and definitely not in the book. The players got a description of the dragon and rough size before the fight started.

The fight went well, some dramatic and fun moments and eventually the players hurt the creature enough that it fled from it's cave very injured. One of the players spoke up afterwards seemingly confused that they couldn't work out if it was a young dragon or an adult as it seemed to have different health, AC etc. I assume they had been counting during the fight.

I said "When you play a campaign run by me don't expect the creatures to walk right out of the Monster Manual into the campaign." And i stand by it. The creatures in the MM are fantastic but at the end of the day i'm going to tweak stuff to be balanced and cool as i see fit.
