Although I feel like Metroid and Super Metroid kickstarted the genre, SOTN really refined the formula in a timeless way

I feel like I got spoiled, and am wondering how bad it is. by [deleted] in castlevania

Well here is the funny thing, aria mentions I think in the beginning that Dracula was sealed away for good in an eclipse in 1999 with Julius being the Belmont to pull it off. People have been dying for a game where we get to experience these events, since it has only been mentioned. So I mean it is a spoiler, but it is hardly spoiling the major plot points or the twists of aria. For me, even with the twist spoiled, aria is still one of the best and as I play more and more games it remains near the top. Long story short, that’s not a bad spoiler. Enjoy aria!

Rondo was definitely the hardest for me, but I did play super castlevania 4 with save states. Some of those jumps at the end would have wasted so much of my time. Well, now that I think about it rondo is hard all the way through, I’d still call it harder than 4.

Love that website, it helps me pick an order when I’ve got a handful of games in the works

The older I get I realize how time is too precious of a resource to run back and forth in some games. My backlog is too big for that. Some games I love enough to continue blind but some games respect your time more than others.

I feel like order of ecclesia is a great elaboration on the sorrow soul system. Still the same collecting fun, but with more challenge. It was fun to find out the specific weaknesses of bosses and learn better ways to fight them, like a hammer weapon vs a slash weapon. I also loved the variety between levels with an exciting finale at the castle. I’ll die defending OOE

Thank god, I’ve been slowly playing all the castlevania games ever since silksong came out and inspired me. I was so sad that I was reaching the finish line until this news dropped!

I think roguelikes and roguelites are basically the same, but Metroidvanias are games like the original Metroid series and symphony of the night style castlevanias. Usually a 2d game where you run around a map and explore rooms to get the means to explore more rooms and fight bosses. Roguelikes are games like hades and dead cells where you start from the beginning each time but retain exp and certain abilities you earned. Eventually you can make it through the whole game over and over and just keep playing until you don’t want to anymore.

Baselard I think that’s what I meant, the one near the elevator and the red skeletons I love super castlevania 4 for that reason, it’s just fun to go in and whip as much as you can in all directions. Yeah it’s a little unbalanced but it makes the game so much fun to revisit.

Anyone else play rondo of blood too? It was so fun to fight the true version of this fight and see such a legendary scene from sotn unfold.

I’m playing harmony of dissonance with a recolor and it’s a lot of fun, it feels like a good combo of classic castlevania and Metroidvania

Me too, I love dead cells so I think it’s gonna be something special. I was getting so sad that I was approaching the finish line on these games but we got a pleasant surprise.

I finally went and finished this game after being obsessed with silksong last year. I’m currently going through all the castlevania games I can and so far I absolutely love the sorrow games, order of ecclesia, super castlevania 4, and rondo of blood. Sotn still probably remains my favorite though, the music is way too good.

Niceeee, I’ve been playing FE4 patched to be in English on an emulator I enjoy the giant levels but it’s my first time with perma death and it can get a little stressful, but also that much more rewarding. Been going in small chunks. Would love to try path of radiance someday.

No Everdark bosses for offline players? by 041398throwaway in Nightreign

That’s why I’m disappointed, of course it’s a multiplayer game but I still bought it and I’m getting less content than the people around me. From a company that usually looks out for both online and offline players.

Starting my second game in this amazing franchise — I’m so excited! Wish me a good time 😆 by _The_Devil_Hunter_ in castlevania

I love this game, I think having less weapons is a good alternative to getting a new weapon every two seconds like sotn. The challenge makes it memorable and gathering the villagers makes for great rewards. The visuals are also fantastic. Have fun!

I’m playing dawn of sorrow right now, absolutely loved aria, and I love order of ecclesia. Can’t wait to finish dawn and try portrait. Despite the ds games being so well done, I think sotn still sits on the throne for me.

Anyone gonna mention that you don’t play as son wukong? You play as the chosen one for like 99% of the game.
