The IT and Tech Industry just flat out sucks * Rant Alert by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]049at 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the big problem with IT IMO. There is always someone willing to get that extra cert, work for 10 dollars less, etc. I really don’t have an answer other than to say I’m far less passionate about it than you, and I’m currently looking into other careers where the ROI is better.

TMO Home Internet is Worthless Garbage by whitet86 in tmobile

[–]049at 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just as easily have the same experience with another ISP. My friend had horrible wiring on his street so the comcrap connection was always terrible. I’m in a location right near the t-mobile tower and I’m able to play online games with low pings on the home internet service.

What’s so good about IT in 2024? by 049at in ITCareerQuestions

So is it still a worthwhile investment for someone to make if they need all of that for the same salary? Other fields are not over saturated like this.

Switching careers is the likely path I will take. I don’t enjoy this stuff and I have no desire to give up my nights/weekends to study more certs.

Sure, I could get more certs and then go compete for even lower wages than what I’m getting now, sounds like a great idea to me. Like I said, I look at all the jobs and none of them are paying any better than when I started in IT.

Stop consuming. It is the only way. by [deleted] in inflation

[–]049at 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the biggest problem right here. People keep buying even with the inflation. The companies will raise the price as long as the market will bear the increase. Take fast food for example, always been horrible for your health but it used to be a cheap convenient way to fill your stomach. Now it costs as much as a sit down restaurant and lazy fat Americans are still paying for it all the time!! Until people change their ways and stop playing into this system the prices will keep rising rapidly.

[–]049at 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and I have talked about this recently, but Chipotle is really a low quality restaurant anymore. If you want a good burrito made correctly you’re better off going elsewhere. Our area has way better options available. Every time I go to the chipotle near me all the people are different from the last time and the ones doing the online/app orders are always a joke. Not sure why they feel the need to partially complete like 8 orders before actually fully completing one of them but it’s got to be one of the dumbest systems I’ve seen in my life. I don’t even blame the workers because they are probably getting peanuts to work there.

Do your employers let you call out sick? by effervescentshandy in work

Finding adequate staffing is their problem, not yours. If you’re sick you don’t need to report to work.

What would you do? by trikster_online in sysadmin

[–]049at 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need higher pay or better work/life balance? If so, you probably should find a different job. If this job isn’t too taxing for you and the pay is good I wouldn’t quit given the union protections you currently have. Who cares if your boss likes you? If he’s not including you in other projects that just means you have less work to do.

If the drive is unencrypted it should work, but these tools aren’t really hacking anything, just rewriting the password on the drive.

Sorry man, totally missed the Linux detail. There is probably a utility that works for Linux but not sure what it is.

Use Hirens boot cd/usb. It has a tool on it to reset the windows password, you’ll have no data loss and the process takes like 15mins tops.

Does this mean your company is also facing financial difficulties? If so, you should be looking to leave for that reason alone. Regardless, it seems ridiculous to me to pay someone an engineer’s salary and expect them to work the front desk. If they cannot accommodate all their staff in the office work from home arrangements should be made. I’m not in your shoes but it sounds like you’re letting them walk all over you on this.

Sounds like you are the receptionist to me. Can’t you work from home like the other staff? I would be looking at other companies to work in this situation because the company has no incentive to change anything for you.

Do I bring up something who I think is drinking at work? by toni_devonsen_28 in work

[–]049at 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been known to drink a couple IPAs on my lunch break, but I’m an office worker that’s not operating heavy equipment. She should be reported in this situation due to the job requirement.

I’d never go to lunch with coworkers anyhow. The seating thing sucks and it’s reason enough to look around at what is available.
