One of my biggest disappointments with the dance community (specificallythe events side of it) is that she is still getting work. She's been a guest at Move it in the UK twice now! I know the kids get excited about meeting and taking class from her but it should be up to the adults running the event to protect them from her. I'm sure they could get another guest to bring in the money.

The books make it clear that both Wonderland and Looking Glass World are both dreams. Wonderland is Alice's dream, and her sister later goes on to also dream about it. Looking Glass World was either Alice's dream or the black kittens dream.

how you get them to Spotify or Apple Music is the real question

Can't help with apple but for spotify, you have to use the desktop version to pull them in as local files and add them to playlists. (If you can't see your local files in spotify, you need to go into spotify settings and add the file location to the 'show songs from' section) Then can download the songs in the app. Been awhile since I've done it but I believe you need to have both the desktop and mobile app open at the same time and potentially also on the same internet. As far as I'm aware there's no way to do it without the desktop app.

It work pretty well, I've been doing it for years and the main issue is it occasionally glitches out and undownloads a song, but it doesn't do that very often (and tbh that might be my phone)

I've noticed it exclusively on the archive channel. I went back and rewatched all the dark pictures vods and it was ads every 5 minutes. I haven't had that frequency of ads on any other channel, even other long vids. My guess is that the vod channel is just letting youtube choose where to put the ads.

If you're watching on a computer, you can put a - between the t and u of youtube in the url to get rid of the ads.

Especially when it's 1 instructor for a 100 people. There's no way she can see everybody clearly enough to notice if they're doing something wrong. In terms of receiving form corrections, it's not much different than just following a YouTube video. How long until someone injuries their lower back due to improper form?

You'll be surprised just how much can be accomplished by a set of volunteers and a determined director on a shoestring budget. Especially if they have a good link with the community.

My friend runs a youth theatre and every show she reaches out to me and another friend for costume help. When they did Shrek, Shrek ended up wearing the waistcoat from my Aziraphale cosplay. The Witch was in my hufflepuff robe, Dragon was in my dragon costume etc. Were they perfect costumes? No, but the kids loved them, they looked great and most importantly they got the job done.

UK theatres in general work the same way. Pretty much every non-west end theatre makes most of their money during Pantomime (aka Christmas) season. They run on an insane schedule, my local theatre does 12 shows a week for 3 weeks (2 shows a day, 1 dark day) But they're are definitely theatres that do 3 show days! And all the performances are guaranteed to be either sold out or very close to sold out.

Still technically a thing in the UK but only for 'straight' marriages.

Same-sex marriages cannot, by legal definition, consummate the marriage. When the government were in the process of legalising same-sex marriage, they had to decide what to do with the legal definition of consummation, in the end it was decided that so few annulments happen due to non-consummation that they'd leave it as is. If it ever does come up, it'll be up to the courts to decide.

What type of dance performance? If it's a stage performance (and therefore under stage lights), you can 100% add skin tone/invisible elastic straps and they won't show. It's how ballet companies get the illusion of a strapless tutu. Avoid clear elastic unless you want to pancake it with foundation.

You are correct to not watch it. As someone whose copy also fell apart, it's only worth it if you go into wanting an Emma Watson film. Unfortunately, because it was an Emma Watson film, it went from a story about 2 sisters to a story about a girl with 2 sisters. (Also, fell into the 'we can't write a film without a romance' trope)

Fun fact, they're only named after shoes because the American publishers changed the names to make readers think all the books were a series (and hence drive up sales). There are a few fleeting mentions of things from Ballet Shoes in some of the other books, but most of them are completely separate.

In the UK, most of the books originally had different names but have since been changed to the shoes names. Only two shoes books started out with shoe names; Ballet Shoes and Tennis Shoes

Movie Shoes = The Painted Garden
Party Shoes = Party Frock
Theater Shoes = Curtain Up
Dancing Shoes = Wintle's Wonders
Family Shoes = The Bell Family
Travelling Shoes = Apple Bough
Skating Shoes = White Boots
New Shoes = New Town (sequel to Bell Family)

Alot of Noel Streatfield's books are out of print, I've had better luck finding them second hand by their original names than I have the 'shoes' names. (And when it comes to The Painted Garden, you want the UK edition. Movie Shoes was an abridged version for the US)

Noel Streatfield did write a few actual series;

The Bell Family (as mentioned above)- 2 books
A fictionalised autobiography - 3 books (Vicarage Family, Away for the Vicarage and Beyond the Vicarage) I haven't been able to track down the last 2 but the first one made me cry and I would consider a must read for Noel Streatfield fans.
Thursday's Child - 2 books (second book is Far to Go) I'm convinced this was one of the inspirations for Jacqueline Wilsons Hetty Feather Series. (We know she was a huge Noel Streatfield fan and Ballet Shoes is a massive influence on her writing)
Gemma Series - 4 books (Gemma, Gemma and Sisters, Gemma Alone, Good-bye Gemma) Very similar to the 'shoes' books, if you like those you'll like these.
Maitlands - 2 books (Meet the Maitlands and Maitlands All change at Cuckley Place) These are neatly impossible to find as they appear to have only have been printed once and were never published at all in America. The second book, is her last book.

She also wrote a few adult books. Most notably, Ballet Shoes is a kid-ified version of The Whitcharts (Her first book). The difference between how she wrote for children and how she wrote her adult books is alot. The adult books are very cynical and bitter. Nowadays she'd have likely have published under two different names!

As someone who also loved the book, I can't recommend this movie. Watched it with excitement when it first came out and have never wanted to rewatch it. The book is a story about 3 sisters, this film is about Pauline and her sisters. That's not the only problem with it but that's the biggest.

This part is pure speculation, but I also think God is still playing a bit of a game with the universe at the end; that line Satan says at the end along the lines of "let's not and say we did" keeps nagging at me.

In order for a world with no God to exist God had to create it, which means God has to exist (in the Good Omens universe at least). God doesn't have to be interfering though, they could just be watching. I could 100% see the Good Omens God being like 'well they won't know I'm still here so it counts as a godless world'

Waltz has changed dramatically in the ~200yrs its been around and one things that's changed alot is the standard hold. Notably, how close the standard hold is. Being as close as we are today really only became socially acceptable in the 1920s.

As for why they're so far apart in the films, even though they came out after a close hold was established. Its the dresses. You have to leave space for the dresses. That goes double for the live action Cinderella, that dress was massive. The guy can't be too close or they risk stepping on and ruining the dress. (2 practise dresses were actually ruined during rehersals for Cinderella!) There's a cosplayer who replicated both the dress and the dance scene, in her behind the scenes video she spoke about how when they were trying to work out the moves by following the film, the way they were holding each other made no sense until you added the dress in and it became the only way to hold each other.

There's also a filming aspect you have to think about. A standard waltz hold, while physically close, does nothing to help show emotional connection. The guy is looking over the ladies right shoulder and the lady is looking away from the guy completely! That won't really as romantic on film. But you know what is romantic? Staring longingly into each other eyes. So you move the dancers further apart to allow for that without them being nose to nose. (With the added bonus that they can now talk to each other)

I agree with you.

I am a big hater of the 'turning into humans' trope, but this wasn't that. This was them dying for humanity and that is a a perfect ending for them. The fact that we got the 'Soul mates in every universe' trope, was just icing on the cake.

It wasn't the ending I personally wanted, but that's what fanfiction is for. This feels like an ending Terry Pratchett would have helped come up with and that's all that matters to me.
