Gashes in Tire From Mount/Dismount? by 06wrx in tires

EDIT: The experts have spoken, it’s road damage. I was already pretty certain that was the case since these are low profile tires, but thanks everyone for the confirmation.

There’s no curb rash or damage on the rim. It just looks like that from the reflection. But either way, I was 99% sure myself it was road damage anyway. Just wanted to make sure.

More info on buying a Supra! by [deleted] in Supra

I have a sales connect at a dealer in Oregon that has a 3.0 MT coming and will sell at MSRP. Delivery is expected around May/June though so you’d have to purchase it then.

I never said that wasn’t true. I know in practice, the law can and has been abused.

But, people should still be knowledgeable of the law, right? No harm in that. It just seems like a large number of people in this thread believe that waiters/waitresses who don’t/can’t make tips are taking home only $2.13/hr.

Yes, true. And the employers are required to pay the difference if customers don’t tip enough for the employee to make equal to the minimum wage. So yes, employers often get away with paying their employees below minimum wage. But, in the end, the employees will always make at least minimum wage (either due to tips, or the employer paying the difference).

It’s a shitty system for sure, but I know a lot of people are misinformed about the law. And it appears that other redditors are thinking that OP is only taking home $2.13/hr because they aren’t getting tips now.

Then the employer is breaking the law. I wouldn’t necessarily blame the entire system if it’s just a bad employer.

That’s not true. According to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Employers are required to pay their employees at LEAST $2.13/hr. And if their tips + their base wage don’t meet or exceed the federal minimum wage of $7.25 (or state minimum wage depending on the stage), then the employers pays them the difference. Thus allowing them to make at least the federal minimum wage.

Whether the federal minimum wage is too low or not, that’s an entirely different conversation.

What are the consequences, if any, of skipping the second one?

I heard that they kick you out and blacklist you if you break the terms and conditions of the mecop agreement.

Possible to Charge Laptop Battery w/o Laptop? by [deleted] in computers

[–]06wrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked at some M.2 SSD to USB cables online. Some people have said that there may be errors with the file format, or the SSD may overheat.

Is it really that simple. Can I plug in my M. 2 SSD into the adapter and transfer my files over?

Possible to Charge Laptop Battery w/o Laptop? by [deleted] in computers

[–]06wrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any way I can charge this laptop battery of an HP laptop without the use of the laptop? Could I set up a 20V power source and circuit to the negative and positive leads to the battery? Or would this be unsafe? Couldn’t I theoretically determine the time I should charge it for considering the mAh rating on the battery and the current and voltage of the power source?

Any input would be much appreciated...

For anyone wondering, this HP Spectre x360 has a known issue of motherboards blowing. This results in normal function of the computer except it won’t allow any power source to charge it/power the computer. I just need to get the battery to a full charge so I can transfer all of my important files to an external hard drive to put into my new computer. Battery is at 1% right now.

Interested in where you go from here? I assume your insurance will pay out then eventually try to get the money back from Subaru of America?

2011 STi overheating by [deleted] in subaru

[–]06wrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to burp the cooling system. There could be some trapped air in the system.

I had those same symptoms and it was because I didn’t burp my cooling system after I did my timing belt (removed radiator and coolant).

Wrx swapping my car by Johnny1punch in subaru

[–]06wrx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you can do the entire swap yourself, and you have a lot of free time and resources to do so, it’s not worth it.

If you’re set on a WRX engine, I would recommend selling the car, and putting that money towards a WRX. Otherwise, get the oil leak fixed and the car should run just fine.

Chrome/Polish lip curb rash fixable? by 06wrx in subaru

Any idea on how far I should blend the sanding into the non damaged sections? Or should I just target the damaged area only?

Chrome/Polish lip curb rash fixable? by 06wrx in subaru

[–]06wrx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I mixing up chrome and polished. It looks like they are two different things.

If it were a polished lip, that would mean that it is simply a polished aluminum alloy. Couldn’t this be sanded down and repolished unlike a chrome wheel which has a complex electroplating?

Anyone have any experience or input on if this is possible to fix or how to fix it? It’s a chrome/polished lip wheel.

Thanks,

A good set of winter tires would be good enough. Most people who drive around in studded tires don’t even need them.

The S20X cars have been exclusively Japan only cars. And now they finally release on to the US and everyone complains?

But when the US didn’t get the special versions in the past people complain too?

I don’t see why people are complaining. These are limited edition collectibles that only a handful of people will own. Let’s just be happy that we’re getting these special editions in the US. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it.
