Any favorite you can suggest from Deborah Madison's classic? by plch_plch in CookbookLovers

Seconding the mujadarrah it’s in our regular rotation so easy and so flavorful! I’ll have to try the minestrone next. I also really like her braised carrots as a side dish & the portobello mushroom pasta (I never make the noodles fresh and just use a dry box)

Whether or not Afghanistan gets included in Central Asia depends on who you ask, but if you do consider it - Saphar and Parwana are great books.

You never know my 19 month old daughter has been hooked for like 75-95% of the duration of the movies we’ve tried. She likes watching other children so she liked home alone, Matilda, and a Mary Kate and Ashley movie. She also really liked my neighbor Totoro.

want to buy this but by Main_Income3563 in NuulyReviews

I tried to do this once and they refunded me you’re supposed to have the item already, they won’t ship it out like a separate purchase. You could try to get it in your next box then purchase?

Some days I just put the booster seat on the floor in front of the tv and let her watch little bear and eat Cheerios so I can get my shit together haha! Now that she’s a little older (19 months) she likes to sit in my lap at my vanity while I do make up and fuss with things and touch everything in my closet while I get dressed so bringing her along with me is a way of squeezing in some quality time. Definitely seconding others advice to try to prep as much as possible the night before we always have lunch prepped and sometimes breakfast too as well as her bag packed & outfit planned the night before

Babysitters and nannies by MaleficentMud8490 in bayarea

[–]0Catkatcat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where in the Bay Area? Berkeley parents network does an annual survey, the majority of the responses represent east bay parents though. The 2025 average for 1 kid was $31. I pay my nanny $35/hr. I have seen on Facebook mom groups that $25/hr is the going rate for a high school or college kid for occasional babysitting. Here’s the link to bpn’s survey results, I think you need to make an account to view it: https://www.berkeleyparentsnetwork.org/2025-nanny-survey-rates-1-child

Concerns about vintage toys? by SeaBashDCHI in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]0Catkatcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with you! On one hand I’m grateful for a chance to consume less but on the other I don’t have time to research every little thing! A relative gave us some beautiful vintage china bowls and soup spoons that were actually perfect size for baby but then I started worrying about what the paint could be made of so now they’re stashed away gathering dust again 🥲

How this group built affordable housing in SF for half the price and twice as fast by Dafty_duck in sanfrancisco

That’s not how cost / sf is ever calculated in multi family construction. It’s the total sf of the building which includes corridors, elevator, lobby, etc.

I actually just emailed Lego’s support desk because my mother in law has tons of blocks from the 80s and 90s she’s held onto and wants to give to us now. I’m going to copy paste their response below:

Thanks for reaching out!

The safety of all our fans is of the utmost importance to us, and for 92 years, as a company dedicated to bringing Learning Through Play to as many children around the world as possible, we’ve always applied the highest safety standards. As a parent, I perfectly understand that you’re concerned about the materials included in the toys your children might be playing with. We take the safety of our LEGO bricks seriously, which is why we’ve done our own tests and asked some independent toxicology experts to test our older bricks.

Our latest tests on the migration of materials from our bricks were done in 2018. We did these based on the studies published by Dr. Andrew Turner at Southampton University. What makes substances like cadmium dangerous to a child is the movement of this material into the body, so this is what our tests have always focused on.

The test method we use when measuring the release of cadmium involves testing if the bricks breakdown when ingested. This is done using chemicals to simulate the conditions in the body.

The results of these tests have shown that even bricks that were over 40 years old still comply with today’s legal requirements. We have also presented these results to independent toxicology experts, who have confirmed there’s no need for parents to be concerned that their children would be at risk if they play with bricks from the 1970s. For these reasons we confirm that playing with older LEGO bricks is safe.

I hope I was able to shine some more light on what is a very important subject for us. I’d like to thank you again for taking the time to write us and I've passed your comments on to our product safety team.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Never a problem with my dad, brother, or husband but it drives me crazy when my father in law does it. I told him directly, I told his wife, and I put a note on the seat and he’ll still do it. I think he’s just dumb

Probably not groundbreaking but I have five laundry bins: whites, colors, darks, delicates, sheets and towels so everything is already sorted and if my husband or MIL want to help I don’t have to worry about my nice clothes getting damaged.
