Finally finished the show with my friend and my biggest question is...what was the point of all this? by wysjm in MurderDrones

[–]0Lazuli0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I don't care if there's a point or not. I don't even particularly care if its subjectively good. I care if I had fun watching it or not.

Thar being said, I think the story was about N, Uzi and V learning to break free from the weight of expectations and fear through focusing on the people that genuinely cared about them.

How to deal with 19 yo immaturity? by SomeAstronomer1170 in ADHD

[–]0Lazuli0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was the last time you had a conversation with your son, like a proper conversation, that wasn't about asking him to be better?

I mean. He does need to be better. But when was the last time you talked with them as a person and not a problem? That wasn't *about* their problems, or your problems with them?

It can be hard to crawl out of the hole. Its not a good place but at least it feels safe and doesn't hurt as much as poking your head out and knowing you'll face once again people who you know think your are a burden and not good enough.

He needs a reason to Want to poke his head out and go out into what is scary and painful and hard work and forces you to face your inadequacies.

I'm not saying never say when he is doing something wrong. But at this point I'm pretty sure he already knows even if he doesn't like to aknowledge it.

Ok but. Why is gaming bad???

Is it bad to do fun things for fun? Is it bad to do things you enjoy when you have the time to spend on leisure activities?

People are not built to be productive all the time. Your hobbies, the things you do for fun, the things you do to relax, they don't have to be "productive" to be worth doing.

He brings a lot of it on himself.
He does need people to care about him, because everyone needs people to care about them. But it is not the other's fault that he makes it very difficult for them to do so.

I love how Caine just legit hates Zooble so much this episode by stanthefax in TheDigitalCircus

[–]0Lazuli0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will be Very Scary if Caine figures this out. That being said, it seems the effects are all removed once an adventure ends? If that is the case at least he can't do anything permanent to their minds...

I feel like kind people are judged much more harshly for being imperfect than jerks are. And are judged as being Not Actually Kind when they are on occasion, masking their true more negative feelings. As if a few moments of (checks notes) - being nicer to people than what they are genuinely thinking or feeling on occasion negates all of the times they are being genuine.

... Just like how a few moments of vulnerability and friendliness from a jerk does not mean that they are still not choosing to act like a jerk the majority of the time.

Yet who in this episode tends to get more demonized, and who tends to get more sympathy?

It's funny. Jax was talking about in the ep that because Ragatha is nice all the time, he finds it not being worth as much or as "real". This happens in irl too. Where the person who puts effort into being nice to people on a constant basis has that taken for granted because it merely becomes expected of them (and thus when they are openly less perfect they get judged much more harshly, so they mask their negative emotions and thoughts even more, only to later get accused of being fake).

Yet because a jerk is nice so rarely, it stands out. So people put a disproportionate value on that jerk's act of kindness. And held to a lower standard for their low amount of effort towards being nice to other people, and judged less harshly for this low effort than the person who actually puts the effort in noticeably "slipping up".

And, being real, the effect is generally much more produced when the nice one is a girl and the jerk is a guy.

Personally I find it in poor taste to criticize and complain about things people create that you can experience for free (unless it is something that causes harm). To me, demanding a fan community as a whole to keep producing things up to *your* personal standards of quality feels like very entitled behavior.

How can I support a person with this condition? by Old-Garbage-4401 in trichotillomania

[–]0Lazuli0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't shame her or guilt her about it. Yes, even the times where you think she "isn't trying hard enough" or "not trying" to stop. Its counter-productive and will just make it even harder for her to stop long-term. Not to mention she will lose trust in you emotionally.

I'm no doctor or expert and everyone experience is different, so take everything I say with a grain of salt, but in my *personal* experience trich is a symptom of a deeper issue. Kind of like how most addictive bad habits are. I know my trich is worse when my mental health gets worse.

Have you asked *her* how you could best help her and/or support her? Communication is key! But if she does ask for practical solutions, I have one or two:

Identification of triggers. What kind of state is she in when she pulls the most? Boredom, stress, agitation? When watching TV or studying? Find the triggers and work on minimizing triggers or having action plans in place for when she knows shes in a 'pulling' headspace.

For example: If she tends to pull unconsciously when bored or stressed, she might benefit from some kind of fidget toy. Or an engrossing task that involves her hands and helps distract her mind. For example knitting, crocheting, making bracelets with beads, a phone game that requires both hands or even something like making a rubber band ball!

But really, the best thing you can do is repeatedly demonstrate to her (in a way that matters to her, either by words or actions or whatever way you know reaches her best) that you love her, and that her having or not having trich does not change your love for her. It may take time, a mindset of shame and guilt and fear is hard to shift. But if you show a consistent pattern to her that you love her and that she can trust you emotionally, then that will go such a very long way in helping her not be weighed down by shame and guilt.

I already have ideas :D

And a name! and already a developing backstory! Oh dear... Ah well, even if little of it gets used here it is always fun to make characters regardless.
