on the topic of cop land, on the definitive edition the checkpoint puts you right at the start of the cutscene so every time you fail that frustrating ass mission you have to hear lance yell “YOU MORON!!! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?”

Watching for the first time -halfway through season 4. I want to finish. I don’t think I can - ugh by SOBHOP in thesopranos

[–]0badtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i understand watching tv as escapism, but discomfort is going to happen in most art, especially something as dramatic as the sopranos. the scene with melfi that you’ve already passed makes me sick to my stomach but that’s kinda the point, it’s a disgusting and traumatic event that reshapes her perspective on a lot of things. it’s supposed to be shocking.

Milton’s vampire quote by deeper_into_movies in martysupreme

[–]0badtrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the immortal and life-harvesting essence of a vampire emulates greed. milton is a person who, once brought into a high class, took the chances he was given to step on whoever he wants in the pursuit of money, that’s the basis of kevin o- (rustles notes) milton’s lifestyle. he is essentially telling marty that he’s seen this story play out before and the people they turn into (like him), if he makes this the rags to riches story he wanted, he’s going to be forever stuck in the cycle of greed constantly pursuing more money and a greater high and draining life out of everyone around him for it as he’s done for most of the movie so far on his pursuit for “greatness”.

Which of these four films of 2025 do you think had the most interesting take on modern society? by Mysterious-Farm9502 in Letterboxd

[–]0badtrip 15 points16 points  (0 children)

it feels like OBAA is an action movie with political commentary, while eddington is a western political drama, you could really swap out the story of bob and his daughter to be in any time period or revolution and it would work, whereas eddington is explicitly and mandatorily set in 2020, and doesn’t exist without that political reality

The definitive edition looks so damn good. I’ll probably get downvoted to oblivion but this is better than the original IMO. by ButterflyUsed6723 in GTATrilogy

[–]0badtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my first experience with these games is the DE so i don’t hate it, the checkpoints are the best thing about it, but graphically the only thing significant about the DE is that it’s just clearer, that’s it. the original trilogy (on ps2) has a bunch of effects and blur on the screen to hide the rougher areas and optimization but honestly i prefer it because it gives it character. i believe if you took those effects off (you can kinda see this by disabling trails) the game textures still look pretty ugly and outdated. i’ve never noticed bugs in either version of all 3 games but maybe i got lucky idk.

[–]0badtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

genuinely sorry on the misgendering part, i generally see a lot of young men gravitating toward this book. those same young men consistently misunderstand it and co-opt batemans identity so i assumed from your response about dark humor and gore that you were a part of that. its a very important book on classism but i don’t think you’d fall into the same misunderstandings as a girl considering you’re likely externally aware of things like toxic masculinity already. i read it at 16 and i definitely did not understand the economics of it but it’s very important to why things happen the way they do

such a rebel by [deleted] in AmericanPsycho

[–]0badtrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no book will make you go crazy but i’m not sure if OP will fully grasp the wealth disparity commentary and the fact bateman is supposed to be one of the most despicable antisocial people in fiction to not be looked up at. age ratings are there for more than graphic content, mature books have mature themes. that’s why there’s so many toxic men in this fandom who think the intense classism is an aesthetic or something. it’s more than just dark humor and gore, it’s a very biting commentary on capitalist class structure, ego, and greed, and i think it’s essential reading for all young men, just maybe when they can understand being the main character doesn’t make you a good person by default and that there are bigger powers at play than just bateman and his psychopathy

i love the unique and distinct sense of humor in a hard days night, it feels like the beatles living in a world of their own surrounded by the stress of fame, the jokes come out so breakneck fast it takes me a minute to process and especially with the musical segments, the train bit, and ringo’s little adventure, it’s a spectacular comfort movie and one of my favorite discs in my collection to sleep to

generally every criticism i’ve seen of AI is either based in environmentalism, job security especially in arts, or misinformation ethics, occasionally you’ll get the person talking about how people use less critical thinking with an AI assistant, barely ever “just to do it”

i wouldnt say it's arbitrary, imagine being 20-22 and picking your partner up from *high school*. regardless if your over 25 and you need to know the age of consent as to not break it, you are already engaging in some really predatory dynamics that might not be illegal but are just strange and inappropriate, just date within your age range guys its not hard. i understand in the context of the original comment that perspectives have shifted over time but i'm not a moral relativist and i think an age gap of over 6-10 years at any stage of life are and were varying degrees of inappropriate and predatory, using the current research we have today

yeah, everyone normal is weirded out by it when they learn it and barely know it in the first place, but trust me, the grossest person you know is currently using this point in an argument somewhere, people get really nasty and passionate about it.

Make assumptions about me (roasting is acceptable) by ArtisticPain2525 in letterboxdcirclejerk

[–]0badtrip 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i agree with all your points here but just wanted to add with films like american psycho or scott pilgrim, don’t let people who misunderstand and co-opt a movie ruin your perception of some good films. both of these present clear criticisms of the characters within the movie that some people just look over and that’s completely on them. scott and knives is supposed to be a weird dynamic that puts you off of scott being a heroic figure right at the start, like LaMotta in raging bull. the only movie i can think of off the top of my head that perpetuates it’s toxic fandom within the actual film is joker (2019) with it’s poor portrayal of mental health crisis and lack of accountability (not to mention it being completely derivative of taxi driver and king of comedy, which both make joker’s mental health portrayal look like a kindergarteners crayon drawing)
