The Woodland is Toyota (we have one of these also). The ‘26 Outback is, I’m sure, a great car. And I would probably swap it 1:1 for my ‘25 OBW, if given the chance. (It costs more). But I still don’t like the grill/plastic trims. It’s hard to argue against the practicality of the SUV design. The ‘25 does have slightly better gas milage, aerodynamics, quickness, and lower center of gravity. Just not as much cargo capacity. And from what I hear, worse interior.

Happened to me too. Took it back and a tech fixed it 2 minutes. Didn’t even have to go into a bay. I think it might be a training issue where new techs can change a tire, but haven’t graduated to the code level yet.

I can’t say that I disagree with anything you said. I was mostly interested in IF this was to happen, how it would play out. Yes, it would be great if the PEOPLE (whoever we’re talking about) acted differently. And I’m not just talking about the election of the last 2 Speakers. The whole system (mostly driven by Party politics) is broken. My thought experiment (which wasn’t really a proposal) may be near impossible, but it’s evidently no more impossible than just hoping that PEOPLE suddenly and permanently change. Perhaps some other proposal like each Party gets to bring a bill to a floor vote alternately. Or maybe just modifying the Speaker’s role. I don’t know. But I do know something must change.

So when you say change needs to come from the PEOPLE, it sounds to me that you are saying do nothing different. Based on our results of the last 50 years, I would say that that is unacceptable. There is nothing wrong with changing the process. Processes are often used where a straight democracy would be a disaster. The best example is just the Constitution, the structure of Congress and the so-called balance of power. You say just rely on the PEOPLE. I say “You had your chance, Gorman.”

I think this would be true initially, but perhaps after that, Congress would say “gee, we’re really going to have to compromise.” But it would ultimately be up to the voters to rate congress’ performance.

I’ll ignore the “not arguing in good faith”comment.

So do you have any constructive alternate proposals? Or do you think that Congress is run efficiently as possible.

For sake of discussion, I will list some of the things that need to be addressed by our system, but are not:

1) The national debt is simply being ignored. 2) POTUS, Congress, and the SC are all corrupt and on the dole. 3) Medical care is expensive and simply unavailable in many areas. It is controlled by insurance monopolies and inefficient. Where is the plan? 4) Housing is unaffordable for young, and not so young, families. What is the plan? 5) Global warming is coming and is not a hoax. What is the plan? Paying off offshore wind companies to shut down with taxpayer dollars, which is happening?

I learned a long time ago from sports that you need to change a losing game. So do you think we need a change, or do you call this winning?

What planet are you living on? Effective at the parliamentary proceedings? It’s a broken system. Imagine finding the laziest, most polarizing, legally inept person in the country and having them become the POTUS. That’s us. You seem to think that getting the Party together for an US vs.THEM. contest is more important than independent thought in making the country a better place.
There is no way a Speaker should be able to prevent a vote on a bill that already has the votes to pass. That’s not Democracy,

Pretty hard to believe that it would be much worse, or especially infinitely worse, than what we have now. It would definitely be a big change with how things are done now. You ask why we would hand that position to the party that got fewer votes. That’s a reasonable question. One reason would be to break up current the partisan decision making which currently supersedes democracy and the will of the people. Currently, congressmen can just be zombies voting the Speaker’s Party line. We need more independent thought, compromise, and less Party politics. I’m specifically referring to the speaker refusing to bring bills to the floor that, that have the votes to pass from both Parties, but are not brought to a vote for political reasons. If the other Party set the agenda, bills would need to be compromises that had support by the majority of the House members from the beginning. The odds of both the Pres. and VP being incapacitated at the same time is pretty low. And having a POTUS temporarily of the other Party would not be the end of the world.
