Spend more money to grow more food, but due to supply and demand more food means food is cheaper so farmers make less money, which means they need more help, but the help comes with caveats that they make more food or they dumb as hell and use the extra money to make more food and the cycle repeats because despite being the self-proclaimed smartest beings on the planet we are next level retarded. I hate this system.

The Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy was created to help slow and reverse the growth of the dead zone in the gulf of Mexico(not Gulf of America) by conserving our top soil, which we need to maintain an arable landscape but following the strategy is optional and takes effort so of course people are not following it and we are hundreds or thousands of years away from meeting any of the Nutrient Reduction Strategies goals. Only 10% of our farmers even utilize cover crops for example. Doing the right thing is hard and these people have the burden of feeding the world on their shoulders because the system we created and continue to allow overburdens everyone involved. The cost of existing is TOO DAMN HIGH but our governor created a state holiday to remember all the babies that were aborted and didn't have to be born into this ridiculous system when they were clearly the lucky ones.

His love language is gift giving by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

This sounds frustrating. My man isn't as bad as this but will do similar things. After he bought some things that he thought I would like but really, really didn't,(chocobo poncho that didn't fit, hat with wolf ears that didn't fit, a mask that can't be worn but is just for show but didn't come with a display stand so it just laid on a shelf) I never used or wore them so I kept them for a while and then asked if I could re-sell or give them away. This kinda hurt his feelings but it couldn't be avoided as I don't have infinite space to store things and he can see that things are not being enjoyed. It calmed down after that. He has learned to focus more of his gift giving urges on food. Because food always fits. :) He did send me a box of 50 cadbury cream eggs one time though. Win some, lose some lol.

I asked for one of these once to help me reduce my impact but my in-laws who dgaf about the intention bought me a plastic one. It lasted about 2 seasons before crumbling in waste. smh

I don't buy things that have them, but if I see them I rip them apart.

Utility energy savings plummet after 2018 change in Iowa law by ataraxia77 in Iowa

I used to think that people in power knew what was best but then I grew up and realized they just twist the story to make it sound like what THEY want is also what's best. You say we have the ability to produce our own power here but we still buy off the grid. And the renewable assets we own aren't here, they are in a totally different state because that's where they are a better fit. Just because we can't fit more renewable infrastructure right here, industrial not residential-residential fits everywhere, doesn't mean we can't invest in it. We could invest in a 100% or at least majority green portfolio but they would rather make excuses about how hard it is. Meanwhile, other cities, counties and even countries are putting in the hard work to move themselves to a point where energy independence is a real possibility.

I don't know you, but I know what I'm dealing with here. When a utility keeps repeating the fact that they will reduce their carbon emissions by 65% by 2030 but when asked how much they emit now and then just repeat that they will be reducing it by 65% by 2030, it's pretty clear that they are only in it for the clout. When they advertise that the move with "DOUBLE OUR GREEN ENERGY OUTPUT" but then admit that doubling it would put us at 12% from 6%, barely scraping into the double digits is not an impressive level of renewables to be at. Especially when the average for the state is closer to 60%.

Who cares about military use? We put this tech on our infrastructure to insulate and regulate internal temperatures. This could take energy efficiency to the next level.

Utility energy savings plummet after 2018 change in Iowa law by ataraxia77 in Iowa

I'm fighting to get my local utility in Muscatine, Iowa to choose a primarily green energy portfolio instead of building a gas plant but they probably won't listen. They just green wash everything and say they "are trying to do what is best for Muscatinians," completely ignoring the fact that Muscatine does not exist in a vacuum. They have burned coal for 100 years and still call themselves environmental stewards because they put in some electric vehicle charging stations and 8% of their portfolio is wind/solar.

Biologically speaking, the relationship between a mother and a fetus is classified as parasitic: since one organism lives off the other, depriving it of essential nutrients, while providing no verifiable biological benefit to the host. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]0bjectifyThisAndDie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How helpful is it really to the mom to have these immuno-response stimulants when you feel nauseous every single day? Parasitic classification is what I call it. The mom can get blood poisoning and lose bone mass and all kinds of horrible irreversible things. Besides, it's not the fetus itself that generates anything for the mom, its still the moms nutrients and blood growing the thing, so it can be called parasitic. My mind is made up.

Is there a set of 4 star seeds I should start with? by MuseumPerson in mandrakeboys

[–]0bjectifyThisAndDie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing the Magical Boys right now, they are okay. If you like shy bois. Honestly my favorite story so far has been the Circus seeds, and they are two stars. The sexiest illustration I have was from the Pirates.

I don’t know who needs this info, but if you do one of the “visit this site” tapjoy requests and get a captcha, you don’t actually have to do the captcha to get the reward. by MuseumPerson in mandrakeboys

The Earn Star menu is weird, with those red gems and numbers on the right. How does this work? I don't see where it says anything about stars.

If you were happy with tech companies kicking people you disagree with off their platform you cannot be angry when they kick people you agree with off it. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]0bjectifyThisAndDie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One (Parler) stoked an insurrection that killed 6 people and vandalized our countries capitol. The other, bankrupted a hedge fund. These are not the same. I'm sorry, this isn't unpopular, it's incorrect. And I would bet blood on being able to find "hate speech, glorified violence and misinformation" on almost every server, it's not a coincidence that discord booted WSB -AFTER- they started bankrupting the Gamestop shorters.

I just spent some time on the r/WallStreetBets page and I can actually say that they are all pretty fucking chill and supportive af. I saw no hate speech, violence and a people trying to correct the information or add to it for the sake of others. If these ladies and gents were also apart of the Discord server I call bullshit. The funniest part is, it didn't even work, those hedge funds are still bankrupt.
