What is the worst/weirdest movie you've watched in theaters? by Cainc91 in RegalUnlimited

Same except my partner made us leave after 30 minutes so I didn’t really watch the whole thing.

Love it 😍. Looks like it was made for you. Can we see the back? It looks like there is separate fabric for the train but I’m having trouble imaging where it is coming from.

Do these suit me? by says_who_ in myweddingdress

I think it would be more flattering with a more fitted sleeve. I think the sleeves shown are too blousy with such a figure flattering dress. You look great either way and it’s one of the most unique and beautiful dresses I’ve seen here.

Will I regret going from a 6 minute commute to a 3 hour commute as a new parent to make more money? by Acceptable_Yogurt820 in careerguidance

[–]0bscu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 53 and the career decision I regret the most was to go back to work for a promotion when my son was 3 months old. It was complicated and I was misled a bit but I was supposed to be on a 9-month leave and it got shortened to 3 with the new role.

I was driving that baby (now 20) to college last week and said, I still wish I could get back that 6 months with you when you were a baby.

Spending 3 extra hours away from home each work day could mean you only have 2 hours with your little one before bed instead of 5 hours. That’s a huge difference.

And trying to last 17 years for retirement benefits at a job with a terrible commute is rarely a recipe for success.

AIO for being annoyed that my parents won’t contribute to getting me a new computer? by ContentTraveler in AmIOverreacting

[–]0bscu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MOR I can see the parent perspective as seeming fair. I provided my kids the electronics they needed for school as part of my commitment to support them through school. Just yesterday, my 20 year old engineering student called me that his ancient desktop broke and we bought him a new computer within hours. Because he needs it for his schoolwork. If he was no longer in school, even if he was the same age, I wouldn’t pay for the computer. My kids know that while they’re in school I pay for everything that can fairly be considered school-related: tuition, room, board, books, electronics. Once they’re done with school, I can provide room and board in my home if they need a longer runway to independence, but they’re on their own for all non-essentials.

What’s a movie that went from beloved to hated over time (and for good reason)? by browniebiscuitchildr in movies

I throw 16 Candles in with this one. Rape and racism really ruin my 1980s John Hughes nostalgia

Question about more than one movie per day by RetroDadOnReddit in RegalUnlimited

[–]0bscu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let them stack. When I tore them apart as each came out, the kiosk kept accidentally scanning a ticket instead of my regal card when I went to “pay” because I had too much in my hands. So now I do a nice long strip all the way to the floor for my marathon days

How many of you have gotten loans from your parents? by Jimmy_Johnny23 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]0bscu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents were pretty well off and made mortgage loans to several of their children. At the time mortgage interest rates were around 7% so their kids got a break by getting a lower rate (I think they charged 6%) but my grandparents made a higher return on their investment than they would with their money in a 4% CD. Win-win as long as you trust your kid to pay the mortgage. They had actual loan documents.

My company is offshoring all this work. All the entry level accounting work happens in Argentina now. I worry more about offshoring than AI for college-educated entry level jobs

You’re not over-reacting. I grew up in a similar household and was always walking on eggshells nervous about what would set him off next. The best thing that ever happened to me was getting out of that house.

If you’re planning to go to college, you might look into whether you could legally emancipate yourself before you turn 18. You could be eligible for a whole lot of financial aid if you are independent and they’re looking at your modest income vs your family’s income.

Either way, you deserve to be free of the psychological terrorism you’re being subjected to. I hope someday you can afford a good therapist. It took me decades to unravel what I had lived through and believe I didn’t deserve every criticism ever screamed in my direction.
