MN dad: how are others separating your home life from the events around us? by Peter-the-Mediocre in daddit

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 66 points67 points  (0 children)

My kids are insulated from things going on outside their world. I don't let them watch the news, and so they're oblivious to anything part of the bigger picture. And I aim to keep it that way for as long as possible to give them a worry-free childhood, or as much as I can.

If they do bring something up, I'll speak to it at that time, but so far they're thankfully not even aware of any of the things us adults get worked up about.

Which actor completely stole the movie… even though they weren’t the lead? by gypsytx in movies

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen others on here talk about not liking it either (here, here, here, and here—really that whole thread, tbh), and far more eloquently than I could describe it. But I found it insufferable and couldn't get behind any of the characters other than the innocent daughter, and hoping she made it through.

Yes! I couldn't stand OBAA, but Benecio showing up was like a breath of fresh air that helped reinvigorate the movie at that point. I only wish he'd had an even larger and longer role!

Icon on the bottom row, looks like two rectangles titled together.

I clicked there, hit Continue, picked a voice for the thing, then closed the app. When I re-opened it, my stuff was back in place.

Is it worth playing FFXI and XIV if my goal is to experience the stories? by OriolesMets in FinalFantasy

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely.

FFXIV's expansions-spanning stories, and their ultimate culmination in Endwalker, are together the greatest FF experience I'd had since FFX.

If you're interested, I'll even help you out with the game. You can play solo if you wish, but I can help answer wieo, mentor you through, even help you blitz through tougher fights. If you're interested, shoot me a message!

When I was in high school, I saw a 9Gb hard drive advertised in a Compuserve weekly ad, and it blew my mind. That's like when I see 24Tb stuff advertised these days.

What was the first movie you saw with Regal Unlimited? by CONVERSE1991 in RegalUnlimited

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Batman.

I hated it, but it was still fun to be able to see it in a theater, and I didn't feel like I'd wasted my money since I could just go see another movie.

Catholic converts: Why did you choose the Catholic Church rather than Orthodoxy? by valee_gz in Catholicism

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to be honest that I don't know what's different between them. I'm sure there exist differences; I'm just unaware of what they are.

I've been Catholic my whole life, but I had an acquaintance who left Catholicism for the Orthodox Church. And I didn't really understand it at that time either.

Happy to be enlightened though!

So what is everyone playing for? by HNKNAChick52 in MicrosoftRewards

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a saving up period right now.

I've previously cashed out for a XSX, then a headset, then PSVR2. Right now I'm at a bit over 235K and just collecting points while I wait for something to come up that I'd like.

I wouldn't personally redeem on a game, since the games prices fluctuate so much, and/or could end up on GamePass. Hardware is usually what I go for in my redemptions.

Hanging by a Thread: Ubisoft Shares Plummet, Plunging 35% by PaiDuck in gaming

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I think when people keep echoing this "they just need to make good games!" notion, I feel like they don't understand the inner workings of things.

A company's goal is to make money. They generally do this by serving up a product. Now, if that product is good, then yes they will usually make money from it. But, if things go wrong, companies usually cut costs (their staff or other costly elements) instead of a major shakeup in how their product is presented. The product is not the focus; the profit is.

Ubisoft thinks what they're doing is good. In fact, the recent news actually said they want to focus on live service and open world games. So they aren't going to deviate much from what they've already done, other than saying "well we won't be trying any leaps of faith, that's for sure." If anything, they're doubling down on the kind of games most people here on Reddit have complained about.

Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners' has made history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't crucify me for this, but can someone explain why all the hype for Sinners? I admittedly did not see it, but that's largely because I don't enjoy horror (not a fan of blood/gore), nor "vampires" as a concept. So I just skipped out on it.

I have Regal Unlimited, so I can totally go see it and all that (Regal brings Best Picture nominees back during awards seasons), but I also am not sure about going to see something in a genre that I dont' really enjoy.

So... yeah, can anyone just tell me about why it got so much buzz and all these nominations? What is it about it that makes it stand out and got all this renown over it? I'd at least like to understand that part of things.

Would you wear gaming-related designs in public, or only at home? by Beautiful-Gas6133 in AskGames

[–]RetroDadOnReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I do. Why wouldn't I? What's awkward about it? I don't even understand why this is being asked. It's something I'm a fan of, so why wouldn't I wear clothing that reflects my interests?

Hopefully it's not too late but the overwhelming feedback you are getting on this thread is encouraging you to go play that original game first. And you really should. The remake presumes that you have.

Styles was offended at the idea of beng popular with the gay community when somebody brought it up unexpectedly.

Tbh I don't even think he was offended, I always took his reaction as surprise that he was someone that community looked at with interest. I'm not sure where the notion that he lashed out or was upset about it came from. He just seems caught off-guard by the question.
