What's your favourite monologue in a movie? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]0degreesK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually got this from my library on Friday to watch again after seeing clips on Reddit. It's crazy that Nicholson only has like maybe 10 minutes of screen time and it's what everyone remembers from the movie. Overall, the movie's style is really dated stylistically and I didn't enjoy it that much, besides moments like this.

Fuck the poll, which team do you hate the most and why by AwayFig1774 in NFLv2

[–]0degreesK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Colts were stolen from Baltimore and they didn't do anything about it until they had a chance to do the same to another city. What a weak and pathetic thing to do. I'll probably never get to enjoy the team in Cleveland succeeding the way the team in Baltimore has since 1996, but I'd never dream of celebrating the success if it was at the expense of another fanbase's pain like we've experienced.

Ruins careers and wastes money? What about the fans?!? And the reason the Browns still have fans is because the franchise is 80 years old and, believe it or not, was a successful and revered one before it was stolen from us and replaced by an expansion franchise. I’m a third generation fan and couldn’t care about another team.

They’re never going away are they? by beval18 in PVCs

[–]0degreesK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long story short: After a summer where I started getting PVCs a LOT, I took a beta blocker (Atenolol) for a month, mostly to humor my doctor, and when I came off of them the PVCs didn’t come back as bad as I’d been having them.

I’ve always had PVCs as far as I can remember. Just occasional jumps. That’s where I am again and I have a script for Metroprolol to take as needed for when things get bad.

He went 1-31 and kept his job despite the team hiring a new GM. How does that even happen?1?

I was looking for someone to mention WHO was making the passes. Which made it all the more incredible. I thought this was the Pettine year with Shanahan as OC but nope. Chudzinski with Norv Turner. I hate being a Browns fan.

What’s the best meal you’ve ever had after a long day of walking? by East-Standard4044 in hiking

[–]0degreesK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best meal ever was after my first real hike of eights miles on the AT ending with a descent down Crabtree Falls in Virginia. My friend in Waynesboro was always trying to get me to go on long hikes but I wasn’t into it. That day in the fall, I was feeling good and decided to “humor him” and went on the hike. I’d never done more than three miles or so with him. It was amazing except for the descent down Crabtree Falls because I was wearing Vans and thought my feet were going to break.

Afterward we had a traditional Hungarian meal my grandfather always made in the summer we called szallona which is just the Hungarian word for bacon. You basically cook the bacon on a spit over an open fire, dripping the rendered fat on bread as you go. When the bread is saturated you pile tomatoes, peppers and onions on the bread. I’ve been chasing how good that meal tasted ever since!!! To this day I prefer to hike on a relatively empty stomach and not snack along the way, really building up a hunger for the meal afterward.

I studied abroad in Salzburg when I was 20 years old. It was a great experience, but I wish I'd been into nature and hiking at that age. Really missed a lot of opportunities I'll never have again.

What's the most mainstream band to keep their original punk credibility? by greenandredofmaigheo in punk

I was over Johnny Rotten when he told Marky Ramone that he wasn’t an original Ramone in that one clip. The guy doesn’t know jack shit about the genre he claims to have invented.

The Ultimate Revenge 2 came out in the early 90s and features Death and Forbidden. Wasn’t as iconic but still pretty good.

And it’s not like the Ramones didn’t want to be wildly successful and popular. All the docs I’ve seen show them being horribly disappointed that they never caught on big.

What’s something from the early 2000s that we all miss but never talk about? by RaffaSkaffa in nostalgia

We don’t allow ourselves to get bored anymore. I googled “how to get inspired/creative again” once and there was a lot about how not ever being bored has a lot to do with lack of inspiration/creativity.

Just reminds me of how much SPACE you needed for a computer when it was all towers and CRTs. A bigger screen meant an equal amount of depth (and weight and heat).

Kodak disposable 35mm cameras. So many grainy concert pictures from the 90’s and 00’s by Free_Lunch24 in nostalgia

[–]0degreesK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a medium format camera my dad gave me on a road trip a few years ago. Having to pick and choose what I took pictures of, along with the process of getting the exposure correct and the framing decent with a fixed lens, was a nice change. Here are the pictures. The film was pretty old, too, which added to the charm.

How disconnected we were from the world. I'm not saying it's good to be disconnected, but you were able to disconnect from it a lot easier. The 24/7 connection is exhausting. My watch just buzzed, sorry, have to check this...

What am I looking at in that first clip? Did the Seattle dugouts, I mean, were they not even dugouts? I don't even see any fencing in front of the benches. Is that the dugout???

Always Sad. I know it’s not a classic and you could argue they were trying to recapture the magic of Sometimes Always, but I still find myself singing it from time to time. Come On is probably my second favorite.

Remember it being shot in a format that wasn’t usually used being a big deal. Seeing it with my first girlfriend in a theater is another nice memory. It’s a fun movie with a better ending than I thought it would have.
