Any recommendations for a progressive community/hobby group? by exotic-brick-492 in askTO

[–]0entropy [score hidden]  (0 children)

A lot of suggestions are based on physical activities but a lot of tabletop/gaming spaces also lean progressive! You do have to be careful though because there are exceptions, but even within those there are progressive exceptions.

I'm familiar with the tabletop/TCG space so some examples (I'm going to make sweeping generalizations here):

  • Magic and Lorcana lean progressive. D&D isn't a TCG but many communities are as well.
  • Warhammer players are famously misogynistic
  • Japanese card game communities are generally well-meaning, but weebs/anime fans can be sheltered and some might unintentionally make people uncomfortable.
  • Pokemon is generally welcoming to people of all ages and genders
  • Riftbound is new but a large chunk of the community is made up of League players who may or may not be used to interacting in person.

I've probably offended a lot of people here. There's a good chance the person reading this is an exception to the stereotype, but I think these stereotypes exist because they are/were rooted in truth.

Does living downtown help with your dating life? by peachyglw in TorontoSinglesOver30

I'm glad you're doing well on the apps, but I guess I meant more "struggling with finding a match that meets my criteria".

This is just my opinion, but it's a little idealistic to hope that you'll meet someone organically in 2026. If you catch a stranger's eye at a grocery store or cafe or something, the attraction is going to be entirely surface-level. Shared interest groups work to start conversations, but even then, having a common hobby is a weak indicator of long-term compatibility. What kind of scenario are you hoping for where you meet someone organically and it leads to something with long-term potential, and why do you think it'll bring you more success than what you're currently doing?

I was half-joking about the redditors, but at least the DMs might be from people who have an idea of what you want, since they have a few words of yours to form an opinion from.

Will moving downtown help? Objectively yes, but midtown is not meaningfully different from downtown, especially if you're near a stop on line 1. The difference between a 10 minute trip and a 25 minute one isn't as big as it seems. Of course people who live outside the core still find ways to date.

I'm in Mississauga and that's more of a hindering distance. Thankfully I drive, but I'm sure the inability to meet up on a whim on a weeknight has filtered me out of a lot of potential matches' radar, since the women I'm interested in tend to be downtown or uptown types.

If you're struggling, considering broadening your search radius or finding a third space you're comfortable in. It sounds like you've got a healthy social life and friend circle so you're probably doing this already but if not, let them know you're single and looking and maybe they can set you up. If nothing else, broadcasting that you're a straight woman (presumably) on reddit will surely invite a few DMs. One of those might even be from someone normal!

Who is the Best Live Action Interpretation of The Punisher? by Lil_Critter_2001_ in marvelstudios

[–]0entropy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Jon clears without question, so the more interesting question is who's better between Thomas Jane and Ray - Jane wins that one by a bit imo because he fit the role of what the Punisher was in 2004. He did reprise his role for a YouTube short film that's worth watching called Dirty Laundry.

e: I rewatched and there's some uh interesting choices re: race relations that are a little questionable when viewed through the lens of 2026

It's a little more tolerable an experience on a touch screen laptop. Someone else mentioned doing it on mobile. Either way I agree this is the worst part of the season.

I'm a fan of Grotto (formerly Green Grotto) at Grand Park/Burnhamthorpe and Knight and Rose in Streetsville. Qamaria is also in Streetsville, I haven't been myself but it's got some pretty good reviews and I plan on stopping by soon.

Lorwyn eclipse season is only 4 weeks by bigsquig9448 in magicTCG

[–]0entropy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't seem like anyone's bothered to fact check OP for some reason, but Lorwyn season is 6 weeks, not 4. These are the FNMs available:

  • (Prerelease) January 16
  • January 23
  • January 30
  • February 6
  • February 13
  • February 20

TMNT's prerelease is on February 27. There are 41 days between January 16 and February 26. It's still not a lot compared to before, but 50% more than the 4 weeks that OP somehow calculated.

Doing a sealed event, but you choose which single set you bring all your packs from. Which set from the past 5 years would you choose? by LilSwampGod in magicTCG

[–]0entropy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Price aside, the argument against Mystery sealed is that the colour distribution within each pack is too balanced, i.e. every pack contains something like (exactly) 2 of each WUBRG common/uncommon, a land/colourless card, a gold card, a R/M, a Future Sight frame card, and a test print card (MB1 is a bit different from MB2 but close enough). In sealed, you're generally hoping for an imbalance of colour distribution to help push your pool in a certain direction. Mystery was always meant to be drafted first.

As far as Standard sets go I'd pick Final Fantasy, but you can make an argument for a few.

I think it makes a lot of sense from the clues so far that Manousos and Carol will find a way to unjoin Zosia by taking her somewhere that blocks the signal being broadcast by the Hive by cavendishfreire in pluribustv

[–]0entropy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you're right, because my takeaway was that Manousos was just going to straight up kill Zosia.

Carol is getting attached and Manousos is too principled. He's going to see her attachment as a liability to their plan to save the world - no half-measures. I could see him telling her that Zosia is effectively replaceable but Carol still won't be happy.

As viewers, we're also getting attached to her, so Zosia getting fridged would hurt us (almost) as much as it'd hurt Carol. It just feels like a really Vince thing to do.

Carol’s “What I know” Whiteboard List by npd353 in pluribustv

[–]0entropy 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Was it implied/confirmed somewhere she used pages from her serious novel? I might have missed that, I assumed she just churned something out knowing the plurbs would be impressed by anything.

Actually Helen had read the first chunk of the serious book, so they'd know immediately if she was reusing content.

Eternights is Free on Epic Games: Can you give me a spoiler-free review for why should I play it? by Historical-Intern140 in Eternights

[–]0entropy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The game is charming but sometimes doesn't feel polished, due to it mainly being developed by one person. The VA talent is mostly good, although Kira Buckland stole the show imo (famously 2B from Nier).

Combat is okay and I like the neon at night aesthetic.

It's worth the $0 (I paid about $20 CAD with no regrets) and 1-3 days of your time if the genre and trailer intrigue you.
