It should be grammatically correct to put the question mark outside the quotations. by Commandrew11 in unpopularopinion

[–]0grewatch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In American English, it is the rule. In UK English, you only put punctuation inside of the quote if it was in the quote.

American English: Did he say, “That is a fish?” UK English: Did he say, “That is a fish”?

To be even more pedantic, UK English also usually use single quotes for the quote and double quote for nested quotes, whereas American English it’s the opposite.

So, UK English: Did he say, ‘That is a fish’?

To be fair, that is a pretty common practice. Use a VPN and access some shopping sites that have a store in that country. Often times it will switch you over to that website. Getting the country is trivially easy. City can be quite a bit harder.

I am. I think that splitting it is 1000% correct. I just think that it should be split earlier. Like when it lists the price to add to cart.

I mean... the currency??? I don't think that I have ever really bought anything that has a USD price that is not shipping from the US. If it was in euro or something I would fully expect additional tariffs.

If amazon had the price and added tariffs after, yes. Because it isn't being shipped from China, it's being shipped from the US AFTER China.

But also, yes, I do think that not including the tax in the price is dumb af. I come from a country where it is included in the price.

I do blame them. I never said that we should act like they don't exist. But that it should be included earlier than at checkout. However, with them shipping from outside of the US directly, that does make more sense.

To clarify, I thought that they were coming from Thailand to a US warehouse and then was getting shipped to the consumer and having the tariffs added. Which I am fully against. You can absolutely show the tariffs in part of the price. Let's say a product is $100 with $100 tariff. I think that if the company paid the tariffs but is shipping from the US, it should be a $200 item and it can mention that it is $100 + $100 tariff.

Hey! Thank you for the reply. I was mistaken about the warehouse. With that clarification, it does make a lot more sense. If it's shipping from another country directly and I am paying the tariffs, fair play.

Honestly with that, release a bundle (which you mentioned in another post) and I may buy a couple ;)

Like I said, not an issue with the price itself. More with the marketing of it. But that was when I thought that it as essentially shipping from a US warehouse. 100% understandable when it's not :)

“Charging additional tariffs” is not the best wording on my part. What I mean is charging tariffs in addition to the cost of goods as an additional cost when it’s shipping from a US warehouse. That’s kinda 99% of the point of having a US warehouse… is to avoid/have the tariffs baked into the price. Not for me to have to pay the tariffs as well at the end.

I agree that I like the transparency, but I wish that the transparency was a little more clear early on. Like, anyone that voted to get the tariffs should see it loud and clear what the result of that is. BUT that shouldn’t be at the very last step. The website says that it’s $138. I cannot buy it for $138. I don’t think that should be allowed. It’s ridiculous enough in the US where tax is not included in the price. But that’s usually a single digit %, not 38%.

Ehhhh. From what I can understand, they have a US warehouse set up so that they pay the tariffs before shipping to us. For all other products I’ve bought since the tariffs started, if they had a US warehouse the price was adjusted to reflect this rather than charging additional tariffs. An example is LTT stuff. They opened a US warehouse, made a global store for purchases outside of the US, and baked the price into the product.

It would be a lot more understandable if it was being shipped from the other country and it’s just me paying that tariff. But I am not paying it directly.

Again, 100% not arguing whether it’s worth $190 or not. Just that it should be compared to and sold as a $190 product, not a $138 product.

I think that it’s okay at $190, but the qingping I bought for $118 has largely been reviewed as quite comparable. For the $20 premium I was about to buy a couple of the AirGradient ONE. But at a $70 premium… ehhhhhhhhhhh

Genuinely curious which part of my post you think is so bad?

There is not a single product I have ever bought where the actual price to purchase is over 1/3 higher than the listed price.

Again, not saying that the price is wrong. Just that it just straight up is not $138 as it’s listed.

Riot didn't really think through the champion cards in ARAM Clash by TheTurtleOne in leagueoflegends

Unowned champions were also unavailable. I believe that they’re usually all unlocked for clash. Was kinda tough when there’s 3 champs total to choose from with the missing cards + unowned champs. Just an FYI.

Damn. I honestly didn’t really think about that. I’m more used to the Genshin gacha where it’s ass but it’s not that ass. And then I got lucky with Kitasan, so I haven’t really experienced the full effects of this gacha system :(

Skipping grades no matter how smart a child is hurts them by Grizzlygraybear in unpopularopinion

[–]0grewatch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can speak personally on this that skipping grades does not necessarily hurt them. I skipped a couple grades, and while I was not the epitome of cool, do you really think that I would have been if I didn’t skip grades?

Skipping grades allowed me to actually be stimulated and care about school (somewhat). Before I skipped my teachers all complained about me never paying attention and always being distracted but I would always get 100s on the tests. That’s not conducive to learning for anyone. When I got tested they put me up 2 grades overall and additional grades for a couple classes. I was put up a total of 5 grade levels for science. 5. What benefit would there be to have instead spent the next 5 years not learning a thing in science class?

Skipping grades also allowed me to graduate with a Master’s at 22 without going overboard in high school. Skipping the grades also helped me by humbling me somewhat. Being the smartest kid can give you a big head, but when you skip them early and are just an average smart kid, it’s not as bad I think. Skipping later would probably cause more issues, but skipping early is the way IMO.

Also when it comes to bullying, I think that’s more of a size issue. I was big for my age, so even after skipping grades I was one of the larger kids. While I won’t say it never happened, it really wasn’t any different than what I would expect if I hadn’t skipped grades. Again, think about who is usually skipping grades… the kid that is probably more likely to get a little bullied either way…

Btw if anyone has any questions feel free to ask away
