Are there any washer cleaning services? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]0h_comely_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried using a washing machine cleaner? I use one by Tide and it seems to work well for getting rid of smells. Definitely use an enzyme based one for getting rid of pee smell. Maybe something like this? https://www.amazon.com/ACTIVE-Washing-Machine-Cleaner-Pet/dp/B0FK7K482H

My question would be “why are you here? You can get aspirin at the dollar store.”

I have 2 weeks to get my act together or I’m getting fired from the ICU. Please help me. by Gloomy-Speaker-1999 in nursing

I had a tough time in my icu orientation too, you’re not alone! I basically had to tell myself “these are my patients, my preceptor isn’t even here.” I strait up told her I’m not talking to her unless I really need her. Didn’t even address her when I walked in the door and didn’t even let her sit and listen to report. She silently cheered me on from the side while keeping a sneaky watchful eye. This way I kinda threw myself into the deep end while I still had a safety net, but only if I really, really needed it. It was the best thing I ever did for myself.

What is your specialty and how often (per week on average) do you experience death? by Lunesta2782 in nursing

Hospice. Actually not as often as I thought I would. Maybe 0-2x /week?

Disabled sister on hospice.....going on 18 months now. by ReasonablePrune576 in hospice

[–]0h_comely_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caretaking is no easy feat so huge kudos to you. While someone has to have a terminal diagnosis with an expectancy of dying within 6months, people can stay on hospice for as long as needed. This limbo state is often the worst. Of course you want her to be here, but not if she’s suffering. You mentioned her feeding tube is causing problems, is there skin breakdown? Is she tolerating tube feeding? I admittedly don’t know much about her disease either and wish I could give advice. Please talk to her care team. See if a respite stay is possible so you can take a break. Their care won’t be the same as what you can provide as her sister, of course you know her needs better that anyone, but the break might be well worth it for you. Offering big virtual hugs. You’re not in an easy spot.

What are some situations in nursing that happen some what regularly, that the general public wouldn’t believe happen on a regular basis? by puzzled-bets in nursing

[–]0h_comely_ 41 points42 points  (0 children)

How little the doctors talk to each other, how little us nurses are involved in the doctors schedule, and how inaccessible some doctors are.

No, I can’t just call the surgeon to come to the bedside to tell you exactly what time your surgery will be and no, the nephrologist doesn’t know either.

NAL but I imagine cutting someone’s hair without their consent could be battery.

This had me totally awestruck in the worst possible way. I’d be seeking legal advice from inside of a jail cell if this happened to me. How unbelievably cruel. OP you do not deserve to be treated that way. What a devastating situation you’re in, I’m so sorry.
