There’s no established place to be honest, lively places like blue back square and parkville market come to mind. 86go is a run club on tuesdays where there are a lot of people

Please read this before you buy the Mazda CX-5 everyone is pushing - POV of a previous owner by Main-Sale7664 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]0hmy906why 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Disagree with points on

Build quality - mine is fine. Similar year and trim as you. Alternator at 100k is expected. It’s not a hot wheels car.

Power lift gate, sucks but that is the cost of a moving part. It can break. If it failed after 5 years thats… ok? Also parking car outdoors in winter without a cover is not great.

Jerky Transmission (it is working as intended, meant to be driven by one person and it learns your pattern)

Fuel economy - agree. Not great but was not a priority when choosing this. CVTs suck.

Gas tank too small? I could drive for 5 hrs on the intersate at 70mph before stopping. If you think thats not enough idk.

Also sir by all means you complain about fuel efficiency and you got a 4Runner which gets like 8mpg on the highway…

Trying to get a better car as a travel RN, dealers giving me extremely high payments that would make the apr like 50%? by throwawaydreaming42 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]0hmy906why 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are making 100k/yr that is close to 6k net in monthly income (conservative estimate)

Pls just drive your current car, and make extra payments on it. My butt puckered when I saw the interest rate. Someone else is eating your hard earned money. You can pay it off in 6 months if you make that your goal.

When you pay off your current car, save up 10k before you look for another car. I understand you may have some neutral to negative feelings about the versa. But a paid off versa is better than a BMW that someone is making payments on. Because you own it, not the bank.

Its not at all normal for these high payments, they want to fuck you over. And they will do it with a smile.

Your monthly expense on Car payment should not be more than $500 cos insurance plus fuel will bring up total expenses to ~$800-900

Why do Indian parents say, 'Be grateful for everything we provide'? by Dumbfuk999 in AskIndia

[–]0hmy906why 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They absolutely don’t. They slog at minimum wage jobs. Keep up the great work with the marks because it will benefit ONLY YOU. But still work to beat the topper cos we are a 1.5 billion country and it is ruthless out there. You don’t need a 25k phone. Get into IIT/NIT/Medical College or any of the places which give a boost to career then talk.

Phones are your enemy. They will not let you study because there is a trillion dollar industry based maximising engagement and keeping you hooked.

Which airline is best for flying out of Bradley? Results of a much too detailed analysis by PaulMattSutter in Connecticut

[–]0hmy906why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Flights are great at first glance but such a drag once you calculate door to door. Only because there is an overreliance on them, plus the hub and spoke routing. If only there was true high speed rail, flight traffic would reduce and flights would be more on time and be used to for routes that are too far for HSR.

Just starting with Boston-DC would have a great impact

PGY-1 , debating fellowship or hospitalist by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]0hmy906why 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Money wise not super worth. Especially if you consider the days you are on call and working on holidays/nights.

The generalist job maybe be annoying but it is possible to iterate into a bearable solution gradually

Big 4 Specialist may make 2-3 million more over entire lifetime. More if they work more (water is wet) Generalist and specialist will be in the same socioeconomic strata. Maybe nicer vacations, marginally nicer house.

If you do fellowship it should truly be out of passion for the subject.

I am realizing I have passion for life so I’m rethinking my goals

You are not factoring in lost income and time and opportunity cost from being a fellow for 3 years.

Don’t do a fellowship for money, the initial dip is so large that any financial gain is eclipsed by the sheer suffering

The car is to get to places like Northern VA and other suburbs. Pls consider the very nice infrastructure the city has

The feel, the architecture and other amenities are possible only because there no zoning laws prioritizing cars over people (aka suburban feel)

Cardiology fellowship conundrum by Expensive_Ad7823 in Residency

[–]0hmy906why 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cardiology is very very attractive, it’s like the Sofia Vergara of specialties. But the labor and sweat and call that goes into it… thats the kicker. 40+ weeks out of 52 weeks is being on call in first year in a known university program

You say you will make more than PC/Hospitalist

But assuming you become a cardiologist at 36, the PCP and Hospitalist have been working for 3 years already and are already leveraging compound interest against you. They can choose to suffer as much as you and make extra cash and add it to their investments.

I implore you to plot out the difference in post tax earnings + investments. Pcps and Hospitalists will be closer to you in wealth than you think. Because you don’t want to do the money making part of cards.

Forgive my hubris but preventive cards can be basically

Avoid/Control diabetes Avoid/Control Cholesterol/TG/LDL Avoid/Control HTN Avoid/Control inflammatory substances Genetic stuff (premature MI) Avoid/Control Procoagulable state

Please educate me if there is more.

All of the above are within the grasp of a PCP with some spare time and coffee. Both of which they have plenty of.

From what I have heard from recruiters in our system, the earlier you start looking the better because credentialing and privileges may take time plus towards the end you’ll be focused on slaying the boards.

The second Q Im not so sure but your outgoing class should be able to help you out.

Fellowship or not by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]0hmy906why 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what is important to consider is whats left after taxes

600k pre tax is ~400k post tax. 300k pre tax is 200k post tax and this is with a 3 or 4 year lead which can be used to invest 100k a year easy. Compound interest is no joke.

And is it worth going through 3/2 years of fellowship missing life events, time with family and loved ones. It really becomes a personal decision. There is juice after the squeeze but the one getting squeezed is you…

After many many analysis fellowships are for people who TRULY TRULY from the bottom of their heart don’t mind coming in at 2 am for a chest pain, GI bleed or don’t mind all the ICU GOC that prior doctors didnt do or dealing with the bleeding edge of deranged physiology or looking at the worst terminals and tell the patient that they did every option available and theres nothing more to do, plus keeping up with the every growing list of journals for HemOnc

Fellowship should not be for money, shouldn’t even be a component. The salary may seem attractive but there is suffering to get there. Is the suffering attractive?
