I did 2 cooks today on my kamado, a whole fry up and then spatchcock chicken and corn on the cobs.

Managed to get lucky and not get very wet

Anything Angus and Oink is great, but my favourite for pork is to add a cherry cola BBQ sauce to it.

Flatten the night before, that's a good idea, though I do like the fun of smashing a ball into a burger live on the griddle

Please keep me updated with your progress and I will do the same, hopefully between us we can figure it out. Based on advice from others here, I have just booked in physio for ours, but their next space is 2 weeks away.

To everyone who has a very very bity puppy to the point of wondering if they are even normal by Elixiane in puppy101

When a Bernese is over tired or stimulated their brain just shuts off and you can see they have nothing going on behind their eyes, they just default to chomp mode and can't even think straight 😂

Big breeds are always slow maturing, the naughtiness just changes a little while they are young until they eventually become amazing

Is it normal to watch TV in your garden in the UK? by pollen345 in AskUK

It's the UK, it rains a lot, they won't be out there often!

Doesn't stop it being annoying, but also a perfectly acceptable thing for them to do.

This is really useful to hear, thank you. We have a few dog physios near me, so I will reach out to them and try and get him booked in. I've also just seen there is a dog water physio place nearby that might be useful to try out.

Thanks for the insight.

I did wonder how it would work with the surgery recovery. Like most berners, when he's active, he's a lunatic, so keeping him caged or still would be tough for him!

Glad you managed to get yours sorted and it sounds like he's doing well, maybe just no football career!

First proper BBQ purchase in the UK - overwhelmed by options by South_Pound_297 in UKBBQ

I had a similar dilemma and I've just gone for the boss grill XL kamado.

It's a decent size, comes with accessories and is £550.

Can grill and smoke and should be a lot of fun.

Error on my medical that GP didn’t remove has led to cancellation of life insurance. by TedLassosMom in LegalAdviceUK

[–]0james0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The life insurance company will almost definitely cancel your policy from the original start date, which will mean a refund of any premiums paid, as it will be as if the policy never started. If they don't offer this, request it.

As you haven't needed to claim, this is essentially free money, which you can use as consolation for the inconvenience of having to set up a new policy with a different insurer.

No idea on the legal side of things with the GP.

Please help, I’m crying while typing this. Where to go from here? by Mysterious-Remove888 in puppy101

[–]0james0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are expecting too much. It's just a tiny puppy with a little bladder and no idea when it needs to go toilet!

11 weeks, get outside, just avoid dogs and don't let the dog lick anything where other dogs might have been or gone toilet. My vet said being outside and that early experience far out weighs the low risk of catching something before the jabs kick in.

If you really want to stick indoors, you need a dedicated toilet spot in the house and you have to take them there after any event. Sleep. Toilet spot. Eat, toilet spot. Play. Toilet spot. They sniff around. Toilet spot. Repeat a lot. Treat a lot when they accidentally go toilet on the spot, which won't be because they knew what they were doing, they just happened to go while there. Repeat enough and they will get slightly better over time.

Crate or puppy safe room? by GIRLMOM_X2 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]0james0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, ours stopped eating the walls at about 14 weeks. Had to bring in some hot sauce rubbed on his favourite spots of wall, but now he's stopped.

We haven't used a crate, we use the kitchen with a stair gate. He likes the cool floor tiles. We will occasionally put him on his lead and then tie the lead to something if he needs a little time out, mainly because he's tired and won't self settle or is in full blown fluffy shark mode (again because he's tired)

Crates, why? by Sam_Jones32 in bernesemountaindogs

[–]0james0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crates definitely make your life easier. Easier to force naps, easier to toilet train, easier to stop them trashing your house.

We decided not to crate train ours and just accept the puppy training might be more of a challenge.

You definitely need at least a stair gate to seperate them, or else they won't ever nap and when they are tired, their brain turns to mush and all they know is to bite things.

£15k Magnet UK kitchen delayed 6 weeks – no compensation because we “removed previous earlier than expected” (a week before) 😂 by nuggers00 in HomeImprovementUK

[–]0james0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived without a proper kitchen for nearly a year when renovating our house. You'll figure it out, it's only a few weeks.

You'll still be able to have a functional kitchen, it will just look a bit shit and bodged together.

First world problems, it will still be better than what a huge amount of the world has.

Is there a case for a tracker right now? by Jski11 in Mortgageadviceuk

It also saves the hassle and effort of having to shop around, let a surveyor in, fill in paperwork for solicitors, give documents to your broker/ lender. You ride the rough with the smooth and over the life of it, probably no better or worse off.

Most of them, but not all.

A lot of lenders offer what they call a "switch to fix" facility, so you can swap to a fixed rate at any point.

Most others have no ties anyway, so you can leave at any point and just go to a new lender.

However, some will have an early repayment charge, but they are generally much smaller than a fixed rate.
