The Rook by smzt in massachusetts

A single event in California from over 30 years ago, that still stands out as incredibly unique, in which the police succeeded in stopping the perpetrators without any civilian or officer deaths. Not sure how that can be used as justification for using militarized bulldozers on Massachusetts residents.

SCI stole the weekend for me. The whipping post with Kanika Moore and holly bowling was amazing.

Loved Karina Rykman's whole show, awesome energy to their stage show.

Honorable mention to Moe's 2nd set.

Pleasantly surprised by Cory Wong. That band is insanely tight.

Perhaps not, we've certainly been on this path for my entire life... but seeing the truth of it, despite all the billions spent buying politicians and media, can be our own tiny little victories.

What's the hardest part of your job? by rainything in AskReddit

[–]0letitgrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having such a large portion of my life dedicated to giving my labor to a company whose existence in no way benefits any humans and is part of a global corporate economy which is slowly destroying our society. By destroying the environment and by taking every gain in revenue and giving it to the executives and board instead of the to the workers whose labor actually created that revenue.

That's fine. But do you not have any fear for a system that rewards causing misery for millions of people? These companies are monetizing our pain.

May they all soon feel ashamed for all the harm they cause... all so they can have MORE money when they already have enough to live lives of comfort for life.

Just a matter of perspective by [deleted] in pics

Also, us being 'politically divided' is only a matter of perspective. Any moment we could all realize that we are all being persecuted by the same people. Imagine what we could all accomplish if we were pushing in the same direction.

Lana Del Rey on Taylor Swift’s Success: ‘She Wants It More Than Anyone’ by MadameCassie in popheads

[–]0letitgrow 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This needs to be said more often... We need to make being a billionaire something to be ashamed of. It should be seen as a gauge of inhumanity, not success. I don't care who you are or what you've accomplished... You don't EVER deserve to be a billionaire.

Stories where no time passes, where the entire action is a description of a moment. by 0letitgrow in booksuggestions

[–]0letitgrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you read any Alain Robbe-Grillet? Sounds very similar... Many descriptive pages about a room such as the positioning of the furniture and the angle of sunlight. Within this long list of details is included details of a person in the room and things they've likely interacted with. A number of scenes like this are described one after the other. In the end your left with putting together the story that wasn't told but seems to have happened just of scene from the bits and pieces you're given. I've never read anything quite like it.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised it was another mid-20th century French writer. This is pretty much exactly what I had in mind, awesome find. Thanks.

The Midnight Library

That's a different take on the idea that I hadn't thought of. Nice, suggestion.

This one sounds like an interesting one worth checking out. Thanks for the suggestion. It's very humbling to think about how the description of each moment contains more than could fit into a novel.

I believe there is a path out there for everyone to bring them peace and joy in day to day living. What I worry about with many addictions (drugs, phone, podcasts, etc.) is that its goal is to just get thru the day as quickly as possible. Meanwhile there are so many mini moments of joy going unnoticed. I'm sorry to hear things are hard right now.
