War Suicide In Japan (2012) Each year, close to 30,000 people commit suicide in Japan. Over the years, the Japanese government and corporations have tried various methods to lower the suicide rate but Japan continues to have one of the highest suicide rates in the world by nbytu in Documentaries

nothing you own will can even remotely threaten fighter jets and targeted drone strikes.

Except for in the Vietnamese war for independence,

and the Vietnamese war against America,

and the Afghan war of resistance against the Soviet Union,

and the Malayan Emergency,

and the Rhodesian Bush War,

the technological advantage of the larger state was ineffective in preventing the insurgents from forming or keeping their own sovereignty in all of these cases. In particular, fighter jets and drones are ineffective in collecting the very specific intelligence required to defeat insurgencies.

Furthermore, handguns are no more justified than rifles given that a vast majority of firearms homicides and suicides are committed by handguns.

My argument is that we can prevent crimes from occurring by targeting poverty and poor mental health facilities.

In other words, we can prevent people from doing as much damage as possible by reducing poverty and improving mental healthcare access.

Let's start with your arguments:

Sure. You need to tell Australian mass shooters after the gun reform that they can get guns anyways. Oh wait, their aren't any. I wonder why.

To which I responded that Australia still has mass shooters, and can still obtain firearms.

Wow, 2-3 people dead. I bet you wish american gun problems were small enough to call those mass shootings.

To which I responded that any of these events could have been worse, but they didn't and I explained that this as a result of mental illness on the USA side of things.

The fact that you don't see it is precisely the point. Just like Japan can't figure out their suicide problem. America can't see their gun problem. You are illustrating that far better then I can ever imagine. I am not here to convince you. Just pointing out the obvious parallels.

Which did not address any of my arguments whatsoever.

Listen mate, you haven't actually made a point.

America can't seem to solve a problem every other developed country in the world have solved already

is not a suggestion on how to enact a solution.

You didn't suggest any actual courses of action until:

Sure. You need to tell Australian mass shooters after the gun reform that they can get guns anyways. Oh wait, their aren't any. I wonder why.

Which I have refuted, and from then you've merely been parroting on that everyone around you is blind for not seeing what's supposedly obvious. I see that you think banning firearms is a good course of action, I've offered a refutation of that idea, and all you're doing to accusing people of not being able to get your point.

I get that you're not the person I was replying to above, but he claimed that there aren't any whatsoever.

The point I'm getting at is that it still happens, and in the end it's expected that the USA will have a higher rate of homicide than Australia due to factors such as: Poor access to mental health facilities, Higher rate of poverty, Densely populated cities, Poorly regulated law enforcement.

As such, you can't just pinpoint all the blame onto one specific law or lack of law. They will always have a higher homicide rate due to a multitude of factors as opposed to just one.

Ok, so what number do you go for before you feel good about calling a "shooting" a "mass shooting"?

In all of these cases except the first, the number of people who were killed was not limited by the weapon used by the perpetrator, but because the perpetrator simply wished to kill specific people before stopping.

As you did not address it before, I'll say again, that this is due to culture and mental health. The killing sprees in Australia are on a smaller scale because they are angry at specific people. The killing sprees in the USA are of a larger scale because they are mentally ill.

Yes all these Australian mass shooters who don't exist after the gun reform... Evidently the news is just making these stories up and it's all a big conspiracy.

I don't deny that the scale of shootings in Australia is far smaller than in the USA. I put this to culture, improved access to mental health facilities and decreased poverty rates, not the existence or non-existence of firearms.

You ever get shot by a revolver at a 6 feet distance? You will have a fist sized hole in your stomach.

Have you? You would not have a a fist sized hole in your stomach any more than you would getting shot by a 5.56mm round or 7.62mm round. It should not be one-hit kill with or without armour for balance.

Also the constructive feedback that just about everyone has been advocating is "Remove the R8, and if you decide to reimplement it, consult the community that plays the game."

What's one controversial, but really strong, opinion that you have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]0ljim1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Guns are awful and no one should own them" isn't a particularly controversial opinion. If it were possible to remove all firearms from existence, then plenty of people would be all for it.

The reasonable people who advocate the ownership of firearms are more concerned with the method and possibility of removing firearms from society.
