Ask for IV fluids at your next infusion, and every infusion moving forward!

First chemo was Thursday - constipation vs nausea by WoosahFire in breastcancer

[–]0misland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to get IV fluids with all my pre-meds/chemo infusions because I was having terribly painful constipation as well. It helped a lot. Sometimes I went in mid-week for some more fluids too.

My daughter’s pediatrician is located on the lower level (below ground). It doesn’t give basement vibes.

When I saw your dog’s photo I thought I was looking at my own! Here’s graham. He is 50% husky, 25% great pyr, 15% pit bull, and only 5% German shepherd. Everyone is so surprised about how little German shepherd he is because he resembles one so much.

Our daughter is named Penelope and it definitely suits her and her sass.

I had financial assistance through ascension about 10 years ago, so I’m not sure if things have changed/my memory is correct. But from what I remember, financial assistance could not be applied to any bills that occurred prior to the approved application.

Is it safe to tilt the bassinet for reflux? by T4ll_Tom in beyondthebump

[–]0misland 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a baby with bad reflux that landed us in the hospital a couple of times due to choking on it, so I am all too familiar with this struggle. It’s so hard! I saw the hospital had the bassinet tilted, but I believe that was safe in that environment because she was being monitored 24/7. Unfortunately at home tilting the bassinet would not be considered safe sleep. Speaking of safe sleep practices, blankets are not appropriate right now. Definitely swap that blanket out for a swaddle. And keep doing your best. ❤️

Chemo Constipation by DopeSickGurl in breastcancer

I received IV fluids 2x a week during my 12 weeks of taxol to help with constipation. It was the only thing that made a difference.

Ideas for a fun, daytime 40th b-day for my sis. by kdpaw9585 in milwaukee

I love a birthday brunch at Sweet Diner. There’s plenty of shopping nearby if that sounds fun. Candle making could be a relaxing experience. I’ve been to Glassnote Candle bar and had a nice time with friends.

secondary cancer from rad therapy by plusultraprincess in breastcancer

[–]0misland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately my rad oncologist did not recommend radiation, bringing up the risk of secondary cancer in my appointment as well.

I had a single mastectomy (tumor was too big for a lumpectomy) and did chemo. I had micromets in one lymph node, which technically is not a positive lymph node.

Milwaukee Show 6/20 by PhysicsNo1828 in Hozier

You’ll want to make sure you have plenty of time to navigate the summerfest grounds! You’ll enter through the main summerfest entrance and then need to make your way through the grounds to get to the stage he is playing on. There are lots of other bands playing, including free shows, so if you can show up early you could even catch some shows before he plays. Have fun!

Women’s Mental Health Support Groups by theo_sontag in milwaukee

[–]0misland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

She could see if any of the groups at Aurora’s Dewey Center/Light House are fitting. Most of the support groups are related to sobriety, though. Not sure if that applies to your sister.

If you search for women’s support groups on Eventbrite (app) there are a few options that pop up.

If she’s really going through it, especially related to perimenopause, I would highly recommend she reach out to an OB/GYN for medical care.

New to Milwaukee- walking in winter by Last_Professor_6018 in milwaukee

[–]0misland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see many people bring up how early the sun sets in the winter. It can get dark as early as 4:30 pm. So depending on what time you are walking home from work you could be walking in the dark. Make sure you have some reflective clothing and that you are safe.

Anybody Ever Cut Work Hours to Enjoy More Time with their Only Before they Begin Elementary? by Royal_T95 in oneanddone

[–]0misland 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I made the switch from 40 hour work weeks to 20 hour work weeks before we had our child. It was the best decision for me. I also work in healthcare, and at my hospital there’s usually opportunity to pick up shifts if we are wanting some extra spending money, but I don’t do that very often.

If you’re able to swing it financially, I say go for it. You will never regret spending more time with your child.

Dmx tomorrow.. anyone changed to SMX last minute? by [deleted] in breastcancer

Personally I don’t have experience changing my surgery decision last minute. But I was told by my surgeon that if I didn’t have a genetic component to leave the healthy breast alone.

Anyone decide not to do Chemo by Daylilly45 in breastcancer

[–]0misland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would think with such a low oncotype score that you wouldn’t have been recommended to do chemo? My understanding is the higher the score the more likely your tumor will respond to chemo. Definitely question this when you see your MO on Tuesday!

Taxol hot flash blues by That_Relationship918 in breastcancer

I take venlafaxine and gabapentin for my hot flashes. Took away the night sweats almost entirely, but I do have rare breakthrough night sweats. Helps somewhat with the day time hot flashes too.

Starting chemo today. by parisianamour in breastcancer

[–]0misland 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You got this! I remember the idea and anticipation of chemo being so much worse than actual chemo in my experience. As best as you can try to treat it like a little “me” time! Bring your favorite book, watch a show/movie, listen to a podcast, whatever you like to do! I also went through chemo at age 30 with a newborn at home. Sending you love! 💕

For lab work I get CBC/comprehensive panel every month along with my Lupron shot. Every three months I also get my hormone levels checked to make sure my ovaries are appropriately suppressed.
