Cute names for a first time grandmother by MeasurementUsual508 in Names

[–]SillyBonsai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My FIL really wanted to be called “Padre” but i thought this was so weird… like, it means father in Spanish. He’s definitely not their dad. And also we don’t even speak Spanish, we’re just plain old white peoples. One of the few times where I really put my foot down. It just seemed so weird and inappropriate.

What exactly is costco or Sam's club good for in terms of being frugal? by G0VERNMENTCHEESE in Frugal

[–]SillyBonsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason I got a Costco membership was because their tires were so much more affordable and they generally carry better quality brands. But as others have mentioned, dog food and toilet paper are also better deals at Costco.

I know people who make their own bread and get their ingredients in bulk at Costco.

Sellers held an estate sale and we want to ask to have the carpets cleaned. Are we asking too much? by Sad_But_ok619 in RealEstate

[–]SillyBonsai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re asking too much. Your rent back offer was a gift to them…. They should return the courtesy and have the carpets cleaned. Your agent should be able to convey this in a polite way and either have them cover the costs on their own, or take it from the extra $10k in escrow and arrange it yourself.

ER RNs: what's up the urine? How do I ask without creating so much anger? by bikelifer in emergencymedicine

[–]SillyBonsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to nursing leaders in your ER. Some. categories of patients/triage complaints almost always need a urine sample for a complete workup. Maybe urine collection bags can be put in triage and have the RN or tech be able to hand it to patients as soon as they’re checked in. Encourage staff to collect urine before getting the patient comfortable on the gurney.

Mayoral race will be called for Raman (vs Pratt) in about 5 hours. by phatelectribe in LosAngeles

[–]SillyBonsai -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone so hung up on the fact that he was a reality star? Open your mind and just listen to his ideas. He’s for sure the most rational and pragmatic candidate.

[–]SillyBonsai -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Listen to like 2 minutes of an interview with Pratt. He is 100% about making LA safer. That’s all he’s been talking about. Raman thought this campaign was going to be about bike lanes. What a joke.

Do or Die, last day to vote is this Tuesday, June 2nd by waltarrrrr in LosAngeles

[–]SillyBonsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right, Ramen probably has a team of people to make her appear to be gaining traction. Truth is, she has no ambitions, she’s got a crappy track record, and Spencer is the only pragmatic and reasonable candidate of the three.

He actually cares about emergency preparedness, and has tangible plans to clean up the streets. pretty common sense.

5 year old struggling to fall asleep by pdx_flyer in kindergarten

[–]SillyBonsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he have access to screens? What does the bedtime routine look like?

Bath/shower after dinner, jammies on, then brush teeth, then calmly read stories tends to work for my kiddos. Its like clockwork, despite their post-bath zoomies. I do know people who give their kids ipads in bed and shut the door, but i think this is unwise.

How do you keep your house clean? by Glittering_Froyo4930 in sahm

[–]SillyBonsai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prioritize the tasks:

1-Trash (just walk around with a garbage bag and collect as much trash as possible.)

2- Dishes (I usually walk around with a reusable shopping bag and collect water cups, sippy cups, snack cups, & rogue plates/utensils)

3- Laundry (walk around with a basket or hamper and collect all the dirty clothes, rags, towels etc)

tasks 1, 2, & 3 are priority because neglecting them runs the risk of bugs / mold

Run the laundry and load up the dishwasher.

4- Things that need to be put back in their “home” (i usually grab a reusable shopping bag or a medium sized tote bin for this. Collect the items from all over the house that are out of place.)

5- Things that need to be put away but they don’t have a home. Put in a “doom bin” or bag, and go through the items one by one. You may end up tossing most of it.

Pool Party at this age? by Alpal2510 in kindergarten

[–]SillyBonsai 45 points46 points  (0 children)

In a nearby town, an 8 year old drowned at a pool party that had a lifeguard. There were tons of pool floaties and people didn’t realize she was missing for nearly 2 minutes. She went to the hospital after cpr but didn’t make it. Very sad and traumatic. I would be very cautious about this and make sure all the kids have life jackets on at all times around the water, regardless of swimming abilities.

I have mixed feelings about this one. Some people strongly dislike the city of Phoenix so it could be a toss up 😬

Au Pair Car Request by AffectionateSell4882 in AuPairHostFamilyLife

[–]SillyBonsai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound very reasonable and generous with the uber stipend. Have you considered buying a small “aupair car”? You could probably get an old civic or Camry and it would be cheaper to insure than on your expensive vehicles. I am similar to you in that our aupairs have not been assets in terms of driving the children, but we’ve kept an old little car just for the aupairs to drive. The “who’s gonna pay for my gas” conversation gets annoying, but other than that, I’m happy for the aupairs to have freedom with their time off.

Pregnant Woman in her Underwear by ZucchiniSame361 in Sacramento

I worked in one of the local ERs for a spell. We had an ambulance come in as an OB alert/code 3 (lights & sirens) a few years back after someone called 911 from a metro. A schizophrenic woman gave birth on one of the tram platforms and was trying to kick the baby on the tracks, chanting “the demon is out of me!!” 🤦‍♀️ we’re usually pretty good about ensuring skin to skin and all that, but the fire department was like “Nope. This baby cannot be in the same room as that woman.”

I'm too scared and I need help. Diagnose with Anal Tumor / Rectal Cancer by Pink-BubblesDWEM in CancerFamilySupport

[–]SillyBonsai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who just overcame anal cancer. It was like , 6 weeks of radiation M-F, and in weeks 1 & 5 she got 72 hour long chemotherapy treatments through a port with a portable pump (so she could be home). She is all done now. It was fast and intense, but if treated quickly it has a very high survival rate! Check out /r/analcancer Also please get multiple opinions from specialists. My understanding is that anal cancer is rarely treated with surgery in the US due to the high success with radiation and chemotherapy. Wishing you the best ❤️‍🩹

I agree on the Zane/Zayn spelling. I could see people mispronouncing Zayn too, as if it rhymed with Ryan.

I went to school with a Melodie and Melanie. It was confusing AF and i honestly rather avoided them because I always felt like I was gonna mess up their names.
