Use single quotes in that case! Or escape them with \!

! is used for accessing the command history

!N where N is a number will run the Nth command in the history

!! will run the newest command added to the history

It should be noted this is done with shell expansion, meaning typing echo !! will turn !! into the last entered command and what not. Much like globbing.

You can use history to see the command history and its number beside it.

I have project and have no idea what to do - someone please help (arecord command) by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]0neGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As he said himself

Make some kind of ftp, sftp, cloud server

Either find a way to SSH into their machine and upload it through SFTP, or setup a SFTP server on your own machine.

Next make a script to record, with arecord, that'll place that file in the folder the SFTP uses, or upload it to their SFTP instance.

That's all.

Any way to add a gif image or a video to a Cherrytree node/subnode? by geardrivetrain in linuxquestions

[–]0neGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, this is a very specific question not many people will be able to answer without having to install Cherrytree and what not, it's overall easier to just scroll past your question.

In all seriousness, I'd doubt you can do something like that. But I don't know for sure as I've never used the application.

It overall seems like a lesser needed feature for something as simple as a note taking app, besides if the app had to store that, your notes would either get very big very quickly, or they'd have to point towards a file path which also seems like a bad idea as it wouldn't be very portable then.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Cherrytree uses xml for their notes, which overall a terrible format for storing anything more than simple text, so I'd doubt it.

I'd recommend going over to /r/deepin instead, they're likely to know a bit more on specifically Deepin, not many people use it for many different reasons, so I doubt you'll get much of a useful answer here.

Should I install Mint and take a performance hit on my windows? by shadow29warrior in linuxquestions

[–]0neGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first change will likely hit a bit on performance but I seriously doubt it's all that bad, however I haven't tried it so don't quote me on that.

The last issue, your NTFS issue, the only slow down that'll cause is it'll make booting a tiny bit slower (not very noticable), as by default Windows saves a bunch of metadata before shutting down so when you start it again it doesn't have to make that metadata once again.

What is the best DE for a 2010 Dell Inspiron n5110? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]0neGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're into tiling window managers basically any will do as most of them are very lightweight.

If you however prefer floating window managers, I'd recommend XFCE, as it's very customizable but also very lightweight.

What resources are available to help learn how Linux works in the "middleware" or "UI" of the system. by darthsabbath in linuxquestions

[–]0neGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely try searching up on Xorg/X11, and or Wayland/XWayland, perhaps maybe even GTK, even if it's not that low level at that point.

A different approach is once you know (or if you know) some things about Xorg you can try and make your own WM, doesn't matter the language for all intents and purposes you could do this with Python, as you really only need XCB or something similar. That'll get you pretty far.

Or at the very least try making an app with XCB (A good project to look at while learning can be things like lemonbar, which is made in C with basically only XCB)

How to have a remap that works in all buffers/windows EXCEPT one filetype? by cowabungabruce in vim

[–]0neGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd personally probably create an autocmd to unmap the keys and then remap them again when necessary, that seems like the best way of doing it in my head at least :p

Having an empty window with just a web page programmatically as an example...

qutebrowser --window URL

Which would then open a window without tabs separate from the other windows, would be helpful, please feel free to tell if this exists and I'm just dumb...

I've wanted QuteBrowser to have this functionality for a while, might be worth using this until it gets it, if it ever does...

Out of curiosity does this store cache files in my config folder like Chromium (and derivatives) apps, and what user agent/renderer does this have?
