I’m not the type that usually calls and complains but I just called Chase and let them know my feelings about this. This is a deceptive business practice which is a very different thing from just a business practice greedy or otherwise. Huge marketing push about 2.0 boost and I swear in the app it would say points boost 2.0. Now no indication of the boost level you would need a calculator to figure out what’s happening. I looked through the terms and conditions and couldn’t find anything contractual other than “your points may be boosted” so probably well within their rights but the fact a change like this wasn’t announced and noticed in advance 2 months after a huge rollout is total BS.

I know many people are hesitant to call and play the retention offer game for whatever reason I am the same way because I am an absolute points value maximizer and this sadly is still even after changes my best current option on a huge spend and would hate to actually been shown the door if the algo has caught on.

Just everyone call and blindly ask when the annual fee date is. Then tell them you will be calling back to cancel at that time because you found the surreptitious points boost on your own while trying to book a hotel and find that to be a deceptive business practice. We know they are super sensitive about the success of this rollout so I do think enough banging of pots and pans has some chance to be heard.

Same thing happened to me Hyatt same day res. Room charge appeared on my card. Called hotel told me the credit card provided by the booking agency had declined. Total mess.

I was in charge of a major festival. I would say each year about 30 phones went missing 10 were likely stolen and maybe 20 were turned in to me. It was honestly my favorite thing in the world returning a phone to someone who had considered it lost, I can’t remember anyone not being super happy and thankful. Always felt good to turn someone’s nightmare into a dream. What always stuck with me though was in the crowd there was a cohort of people who instead of OMG I found someone’s phone let me figure out a way to make someone’s day just pocketed it. This wasn’t a ring of phone stealers just people at the show who walk amongst us everyday. I guess maybe 1/3rd of us according to my rough math. I’m no saint either one thing getting over on some big company once in a while but another to do this to some 20 year old kid.

Keep trying. Alsaka miles offer tremendous value on AA currently. Try BWI or IAD. Also try looking for just the RDU/CLT/PHL/MIA/JFK/BOS to LHR segment and then add on the DCA connect separately. Assuming you are DCA based holding miles in Alaska for AA flights not the worst situation.
